Chapter Text
—Hey, kid— Glib hummed, sliding his pass card through the scanner. The small light on top of the device turned green and the door slid open. Glib walked through a small force field, and entered the grey room. There were no decorations, no colors, only a grey tiled floor, and equally grey walls. A small bed sat in the corner, with a pitch black blanket and a grey fluffy pillow. There was a door to a bathroom on the left of the entrance, yet there was no trace of Emmy inside. The shadows pulsed slightly, reassuring Glib that he wasn’t alone.
—Cool…Hi Emmy, you here, kid?— He chuckled nervously, sitting on the edge of the bed, quietly wondering if he could bring come colorful paper and scissors in here. He was sure that Emmy would love to make some decorations, chains and other stuff to make this room more pleasant to be in. He waited for around 3 minutes before the shadows deepened and a small figure appeared, inky tendrils spreading from it’s back. Emmy looked around the room, their eyes black, with small bags under their eyes.
—Hey there, bud— Glib started, before the echoey voice interrupted him.
—Who are you? Why are we here? Why did you call me Emmy?— And Glib heart shattered in an instant. His eyes darted all over the small figure, before he finally gathered the strength to speak.
—Im glib, the god of death and god-drinker— he started awkwardly, not sure what to do —And your name is Emmy, I kind of adopted you after we got away from the whole god-cursed idiots. You’re the god of absence— Glib explained, and Emmy sat beside him, they looked lost, but a small spark appeared in their eye when glib mentioned „adopting” them.
—Why are we here?— They repeated, voice a little more stable, the echo phasing out of it. At first glib felt relieved by it’s disappearance, before looking at the tendrils…was emerald using the kid to hold the ship in the blind spot? That’s cruel.
—Emerald is keeping you here, and they let me visit you…— Glib sighed, he needed to try and be strong for Emmy’s sake, despite wanting to cry and scream and hold his kid so tight that their memories would flood back. But he knew that was near impossible, he knew that Emerald was strong, stronger than Emmy. —And they made you forget, about me, about our adventures, about this whole- about everything! But don’t worry, kid, I’ll talk to them- they will agree to give you your memories back, and I will- and we will be happy again. I’ll get you some coloring books, whatever you want, and it’s all going to be alright— He started to ramble, only a small hand on his own ripped him from his spiral.
—C-can you do that later? A-And maybe talk about the adventures we had?— They seemingly liked the idea of going on adventures, or just wanted to hear about a story, as kids usually do. Glib just looked at them, and ran a hand over the short ebony black hair.
—I- sure, Emmy…— and so he talked. First about how he and the rest of the chaos group saved the chaos god, later about their adventures around the whole continent, about how you can’t trust everyone (canyon) and how Emmy saved them when the blanks showed up. He talked about how dramaticus gave people hope, how S.G could convince them of anything, How Boodbid was a moral compass, how mercury was helpful to everyone he could. Glib couldn’t help but make SG out to be much more heroic than they actually were.
And Emmy took it all in, eyes brightening up at stories. They flooded glib with questions, about everything he said. They asked about SkySkimmer, about Kermit, About Magic and about Friday. Glib answered the best he could. They spent hours like that, and glib couldn’t help but cry after leaving the room to fetch some art supplies for Emmy, who the force field was keeping inside.

—WHAT THE FUCK EMERALD? WHAT DID YOU DO TO *MY* KID?— Glib yelled at the dark figure, standing on their desk. The older god only sighed and sharp whispers answered glib.
—As an absence signature, your „emmy” needed to be contained. They are far too dangerous to allow them to roam the ship.— They responded plainly, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation.
—OH YOU KNOW FULL WELL WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT AND IT’S NOT THAT— He growled, eyes going red
—Well. Their memories made them even more dangerous, after your first meeting they have tried to escape, leaving the blind spot for crucial seconds. Now the blank probably didn’t notice it, they—ironically-aren’t the brightest. But it could have been dangerous, so, for the safety of all, we’ve elected to have your Emmy’s memories erased. Without their memories they can’t reliably use their powers, and so they can’t repeat that utterly stupid stunt— They explained, and glib slumped back into the chair before emerald—Now, is that all?—
—I…I’m still allowed to meet’em, right?— He asked, quietly. Glib was praying to whatever god of luck this place had that emerald would say yes.
—I see no benefit to keeping you two away from each other, your presence, despite their lack of memories, seems to soothe them, they didn’t try to escape ever since you left them this time— Emerald replied —We’re aware of you telling them stories from your timeline, and your clear protectiveness over them. That being said, if your stories give them any reckless ideas, you will be held responsible— Glib could only nod at the statement
—Can I give them coloring supplies and other kid stuff?— He asked again, and emerald closed their eyes a little, as if tired from the questions
—Yes, they would help your emmy develop, since despite being a god they’re still in a child form and mental space. We’re hoping that your efforts will bring benefits to the whole ship. If your emmy ages -grows up- We will consider letting them roam free as an adult. But until then, you will have to keep them well behaved— Emerald stood up and pushed some documents aside. The Capitan lamented the amount of goodbid’s on the ship. They made them do far too much paperwork. With a dismissive gesture, they quickly conveyed—I hope that is all—
—it is…— Glib stood up as well and walked out. He made a b-line for Emmy’s room.

Glib couldn’t count how many times he’s visited emmy, hell, sometimes he slept on the floor just to keep them company. Emerald even agreed that once Emmy’s progress becomes sufficient, Glib will receive a room connected to Emmy’s.
He slid his passcard through the scanner, which picked it up and opened the door. Emmy waited on their bed, which was covered in colorful blankets and hand made plushies. The walls were covered in drawings and chains made of colorful paper. Glib even made a deal with his own goodbid that if he finds any „fairy lights” he will try to buy them to give emmy. Turns out, they were afraid of the dark…Glib could only suspect why. The floor was also covered in stuff. Torn up paper, and craft supplies, mostly. Well, glib never claimed to be the most tidy of frogs, and Emmy never complained about the mess, so who cares? Emmy had a little handmade paper origami flower in their hair, a gift from mercury. Dramaticus also gave Glib a gift for emmy, a small wooden sword, which the two used to play fight. Glib eventually wanted to bring dramaticus in so he could teach emmy how to sword fight, as a sport. They loved to hear all of the stories, and often asked if they could learn magic or how to fight.
—DAD!— They smiled and ran full force into glib. The frogman just laughed and gently ruffled their hair —Did you see SG? Did you tell them that I know all about their heroic deeds and want to be like them when I grow up?— …Glib stayed silent for a second, before replying
—Yeah, I did. And told them all about you, they seem to admire you too, bud. You’re the strongest and the smartest little guy around— He picked the small god up and spun them around, making them giggle.
Glib still didn’t fully process SG’s death, and so he didn’t tell Emmy about it.

—And then the suckers came back with HUGE robots!— He made a monster like gesture, making emmy squeal and giggle. He was talking about the battle in which the rangers helped them. He wanted to make the story better, so he omitted the detail about the ranges being far too weak for the fight ahead of them, instead making them out to be heroes who saved the city. He didn’t care for the rangers, really, but he wanted the story to be more fun for Emmy.
—Will I save the city like them one day? I want to help people like you and all of your friends!— They said, hugging one of their toys. It was a wooden, hand-painted replica of one of the robots.
—Oh I bet you will, kid— Glib pet them gently, before looking up at the clock —But now, you need to sleep, so you can grow to be big and strong, alright bud?— Emmy nodded enthusiastically and glib turned the lights off, still sitting on Emmys bed, to make sure they won’t have any nightmares.
As they fell asleep, Emmy murmured —One day I’ll go do bowenburg academy just like dad…*yawn* A-and I’ll do…so much….good…— They whispered before ultimately falling asleep.
