Notes:

Year of the otp disclaimer

I was unable to decide on a single Fandom/OTP for the year of the otp challenge 2023 so I've done multiple.

This one is based on the following prompts for April: "pranks"

The Past and what could have Been

He heard his partner snickering so he headed toward the dusty store room, “Chance what’s so funny in here?” He looked around and saw Chance was looking through one of those old foot lockers from their Enforcer days.

“Jake, you remember this,” Chance said handing over a stack of old photos. He glanced at the first one and saw it was Feral covered in green gelatin screaming his head off. “You remember why we set that booby trap right?”

He did and unsurprisingly the next photo was Feral freshly changed into a new uniform completely unaware that they had ironed on offensive slogans onto the back of everyone of his spare uniform coats the night before. “He never did find out we were responsible for those pranks,” he said smiling at the memory. “Of course the rest of the guys probably hated our guts since he locked down the whole unit over it.”

“Nah, they liked seeing Feral taken down a peg too,” Chance said shaking his head. “You know, there’s not actually anyone left from our old unit there anymore.” He was surprised by that, “Yeah I ran into Sphinx in town the other day and she told me that she was the last one left and she’d be transferred to the New Katterdam branch at the end of the week.”

“Oh that’s too bad there were some good folks in that unit,” he said careful not to let any bitterness on how they all stood aside and let him and Chance take the fall for Feral’s stupidity. “That why your in here digging through the old foot lockers for photos nostalgia?”

“Not really I was looking for this one,” he said holding another photo. “It’s from that trip we all took after we’d officially made the unit.” He glanced at it and it was the two of them by the pool joking around Chance was playfully kissing him on the cheek while some of their squad mates laughed in the back ground. “I thought about that night a lot over the years.” They had lucked out and gotten a room on a different floor from the rest of the unit the privacy had led to things.

“Yeah me too,” he said recalling that had been their first and last night together for a long time. They hadn’t wanted to risk their partnership. “You ever wonder how things might have been different if we’d started all this back then and let them reassign one of us.”

“Not really,” Chance said after a moment. “I mean sure we might still have a career in the Enforcers but I’ll take her our current life over playing by Feral’s rules any day.” Chance smirked at him a bit then, “Of course if we’d started sleeping together and just kept it on the down low that might have been nice saved us a lot of stupid fights about Callie.”

“True,” he said with a smirk. “By the way I wonder if any of the new recruits ever Prank Feral like we used to back in the day?” Chance laughed clearly amused at the thought of it. “And even more do you think they keep any photographic evidence of it?”
