Work Text:
Waiting. Waiting was rather boring to say the least, the loud hum of the laundry bounced off the walls. The others gossip and giggle over little things and the occasional ticking from the clock was all that reminded you of what a slow day it was going to be. As the clothes were making their final spin, you stood up and stretched, you felt the fabric roll up to reveal a bit of your belly.
‘tsk’
Eyes opening from the sudden tsk sound you looked towards the far side of the room to see one of the other students glared towards you, their expression was one of foul moods and hidden agendas.
“Got a problem?!” you asked loudly
“humph” the student rolled their eyes and turned away
Thinking to yourself ‘what’s their problem’ the loud bzzzzt from the machine began to draw your attention. Quick on your heels you turned to the washer and opened the lid, the steam from the wash flushed against your face, small droplets trickled off of your brow. Leaning further into the washer you start to remove the damp clothes, returning them to your basket for them to be taken to the dryer. With the last bit sticking inside of the washer you nearly fell into the machine, causing a few giggles to erupt from the droning noise of clothes washing.
“Here, let me help you” a voice called out
Feeling a pair of hands on your hips you yelped at the sudden contact and rushed to grab the last fabric of clothing that’s been lost to the washer. Wiggling your hips to try to pry off the hands only caused them to hold on tighter, as soon as you tried to move back the hands yanked you back and allowed you to escape from the machine. With a gasp of air refilling your lungs you smacked at the hands that were still holding you and turned to see just who it was.
“I didn’t need your help Brian” you pouted
“S-sorry but...” Brian held his hands up in defense
“No buts, that’s not cool.”
Slamming the lid down you bend down and scooped up the laundry and hauled it further away. Satisfied with the distance you shook your head and plopped the basket down once more. Loading the dryer, you slip out a small stick of gum and popped it into your mouth. Stealing glances towards the football player you scuffed as he continued to stare at you from time to time. His eyes shifting from the group of girls that surround him back to you. Looking away one last time you slumped down the front of the dryer and listened to the hum, that was until the dryer stopped. Lights flickered and blinked off leaving the room in complete darkness. Screams erupted from the silence, the few students trampled and fell as they attempted to run towards the door. The door slammed open and there stood another student with a flashlight.
“Everyone okay?” the student called out
“D-Dick is that you man?” Brian replied back
“There you are man, yeah its me.”
The flashlight danced as the two males hugged one another and clapped their hand to a shack.
“Oh my god, why did the power go out.” A girl cried out
“Is there a storm happening?” Another whined
“Look I don’t know why but let's all stay together and move out from here” Brian chirped up
“I feel so much safer with Brian here.”
‘pop’
Blowing a bubble in the dark you giggled to yourself as one of the girls cried out and dashed into the arms of the males. Still sitting on the floor, a smile molded onto your features as the group started to move away from you.
“Hey (Y/N) let's go” Brian called out
Remaining silent for a moment you called back, “Nay I’m good”. With that you leaned against the dryer once more and closed your eyes.
“Come on, let's just leave the,”
“But...” Brian mumbled
“I’ll come back for them okay” Dick replied
With hesitation the group finally left you alone, smiling to yourself the silence was calming but with flashes of your nightmare the darkness felt smothering, like a blanket tightening around your body, constricting your thoughts. Light steps approached you from the darkness, stopping just inches from your own feet. Looking up at a small light shone down upon you the illumination from the light lowered down as the person crouched down to your height.
“Are you alright (Y/N).”
“Professor Crane?”
“Some of the students told me to come fetch you” Professor Crane calmly stated
“I’m fine, you can leave me alone.”
“I could but what kind of teacher would I be if I left a student alone in the dark, something might happen to them”
Standing up you felt the professor's hand on your shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. Taking the lead, carefully moving over the knocked over baskets, you reached the stairs and took a step with the professor close behind.
