Work Text:
Many cars were behind them. Min-Gi and Ryan were both fit to death yet Kez was cheering them up and constantly reminding them that they needed to go to Morgan. She showed them a photo of her one hundred times already.
Lucky for them, they entered a car with a beach. Soft sand was everywhere, and it looked like silver due to the fact that this specific car was set in never-ending night. Both Ryan and Min found the exit. It was located on the other side of the car. But for some reason it was locked.
Their brains couldn’t think of any way to open the door, so they’ve decided to rest here for a bit.
Kez found a beach bar and decided to step in as main bell (even though there were no customers), yet she felt compelled to do that.
There were thousands of colorful deck chairs. Ryan and Min found two that they liked the most and brought them to the coast.
They lied close to each other, and even though they felt sleepy, none could close their eyes. They were stargazing. Min remembered how they both once stayed up late at night, ran out of their homes to the local park with snacks in order to stargaze together. That was such a beautiful night. Min felt saddened when he realized that things had changed.
Ryan, on the other hand, thought about his career as a musician. He was so sure of himself that Min’s words ended up being heartbreaking. He wasn’t mad at him, but he definitely wanted to know that he’s sorry about what he had said. Deep inside, Ryan knew that Min needed to be a musician too. He couldn’t believe that Min that he had known for his entire life would choose something as boring as he did.
A shooting star suddenly fell from the sky.
“Make a wish!” Ryan excitingly screamed.
Min looked at this shooting star and for a minute decided to forget about all the things that stopped him from being himself: parents, responsibilities, university…
He felt as if he was the freest human to walk the earth. He imagined how he was playing on stage with Ryan together. How Ryan cheerfully smiled. How his friend was really happy. And how Ryan's smile filled Min with joy. He felt lucky to be the one bringing happiness to Ryan. It was the happiest thought that he had since he sat on this train of infinite self-doubts.
“I made a wish…” Said Min, trying not to seem too excited.
“Mind sharing with me?” Wondered Ryan with his classic cute smile.
“…Not now…not yet” Said Min softly.
Ryan raised his hand as if he was trying to collect stars in the sky and keep them. Or maybe he wanted to give one of those stars to Min to make his wish come true.
The moon was shining bright and white rays were making Ryan’s hair look shiny. He ran his hand through his hair and exhaled.
“Will you mind me playing some music?” Wondered Ryan because if Min wanted to sleep he wouldn’t dare playing.
“Yea, it would be great”. Min was just thinking that he should play something. Nothing could make this moment better than some relaxing guitar sounds.
Ryan reached for the guitar and started gently playing. His fingers were not just touching the strings of the guitar, it seemed as he was fondling them.
The sound filled the endless sea and stars shined brighter as soon as they heard this charming song. Min had no idea that Ryan could play something this soft and gentle. Even though he seemed tough, he was fragile on the inside. With closed eyes, Ryan was fully concentrated on the song that he was playing. There was no need for any lyrics. Only the sound of soothing waves was accompanying this melody.
Min looked at Ryan as he was lying near him and really wanted to apologize for what he had said. But at the same time, he wanted to hug his friend and leave together from this place. And by ‘this place’ he meant his hometown. Not the car that he was in with Ryan. If Min could choose one moment to spend eternity in, he would choose this one.
Ryan opened his eyes and glitter produced by the stars entered his vision. He was captivated. And then Ryan remembered the day when he and Min both were stargazing. With everything what happened on the train already, he forgot that he had a life to live. This alluring echo of the past brought him back to reality.
Min remembered about his stylophone and instantly wanted to hop in to accompany Ryan. He reached his hand towards it, but the very last second he had stopped. Fear and doubt once again bewitched his mind. Yet he let those thoughts go as soon as he glanced at Ryan.
Ryan also looked at Min.
They were looking into each other’s eyes wondering what’s happening inside. If only they could talk things through properly. If only they had the chance to avoid misunderstandings.
Their eyes reflected thousands of stars above.
Ryan and Min spent a few more seconds looking at each other, and then they blushed. They looked away.
Ryan hid his guitar and wished goodnight to Min. They both fell asleep.
The moon and the stars faded away into the mist.
But their sleep ended as soon as, all of a sudden, Kez started screaming. Min’s hair looked messy, Ryan’s too. They stared at Kez for a few seconds.
“Guys, look at the sky!” Said Kez.
The sun was shining and there weren’t any stars above.
“It happened like a minute ago, all of a sudden it got so bright!” Screamed Kez.
They were sleepy yet rested. They’ve collected their stuff and headed to the door. While they were on the way, Min said: “By the way, I liked your song, never knew you could play something like that.”
Ryan blushed and answered: “Me too.”
They got to the door that was opened and already waiting for them. Before leaving this car, they both stopped for a minute and examined every tiny detail about it in order to never forget it.
They went through the door on a way to the next car. Something has changed.
