Work Text:
he was never gonna go back. never. just run away and disappear into the woods. forever.
Rain told himself this as he sprinted through the woods behind the Abbey.
while he was getting in some practice time alone, Swiss had come to see him. Rain at the time didn't hear him come in and when Swiss placed a hand on his shoulder, Rain jumped and stumbled back right into the multi ghoul, accidentally whipping him with his long tail. even worse, he had managed to place his hands on Swiss' hips to steady himself.
Rain had a terrible crush on Swiss, the way he carried himself, his pure unadulterated silliness. always keeping the mood light with his jokes and comments. not to mention his damn smile, his fangs slotted perfectly together, Rain thought.
after getting properly back on his feet and apologizing profusely, Rain set his bass down. he looked to the seemingly unaffected ghoul in front of him, who was sporting a soft smile and then the embarrassment hit him like a truck. an indigo blush spread across his cheeks. he quickly came up with a lame excuse and bolted out of that room.
here he is now, at the river, throwing his shirt and pants off, leaving him in only his underwear, so he can plunge into the cold but comforting water.
it takes no time for Rain to fully transition to his aquatic form. his elbow fins springing out and unfurling. his gills already taking in water, making it possible for him to breathe underwater.
he lets himself sink and rest at the bottom, holding his knees to himself. he knows later he'll think this was a bit dramatic but that doesn't really matter right now. all he wants is to disappear for a little.
Swiss, who was currently slicing up some strawberries, already knew where Rain had gone off to. he knew Rain very well, they were close after all. Rains calm demeanor tended to clash with Swiss' more rowdy nature but Rain had a humorous side. both were clever and witty, being able to riff off each other easily.
Rains occasional awkwardness also proved to be a stark contrast to Swiss' insane confidence and straightforwardness, Swiss loved playfully making fun of Rain when he got like that, finding it rather endearing.
truth be told, Swiss had his own crush on Rain and had been finally going to confess to him when he suddenly ran off like that. Swiss thought he could lure Rain out with food. he prepped a little charcuterie board, decked out with strawberries, raspberries, a few different kinds of cheeses and some fish. odd choices maybe but its what Rain liked.
Rain was still peacefully sat on a rock at the bottom when he felt the vibrations of a person walking onto the dock that overlooked the lake. he swam closer, keeping himself low enough so anyone looking in couldn't see.
"hey Rain! are you here? you vanished on me, are you okay?"
fucking hell. of course it was Swiss.
Rain darted back down, how could he be so stupid, of course Swiss knew this spot, they came down here all the time.
"hey man, don't worry about what happened, its all right! we can put it behind us."
Rain stayed put, trying to wait it out, maybe Swiss would leave eventually.
Swiss had already found Rain out though, he was just waiting for the water ghoul to come out on his own time.
still. "i have food up here! strawberries and salmon!" Swiss called out in a sing-song tone.
Rain perked up at that, even started to float up. but he stopped himself, was he really going to be bribed with food like that?
suddenly, a piece of salmon was tossed into the water, making a small ripple. it slightly startled Rain. he stared at it, it looked fresh and enticing. he couldn't resist. he slowly swam up so he could reach the salmon and pull it down. he popped it into his mouth. it was delicious. maybe Swiss would throw another.
Swiss watched the piece disappear under the water and chuckled softly.
he decided to throw another. it was gone in an instant.
"i know you're there. im not gonna keep throwing food for you, little fish" Swiss laughed.
Rain flushed at the pet name. why was he like that, Rain grumbled out a few bubbles.
he really couldn't hide anymore, he had to forfeit. he settled his mind and heart as best he could while he floated the rest of the way to the surface. his head bobbed out and he was greeted by Swiss' ever stunning face. the blush was back instantly but he resisted swimming back down. instead, he averted his eyes and pulled himself up onto the dock. taking a seat next to Swiss who had moved the food to his lap to save it from getting wet. his extra fins receding back as he transitioned back to his standard form. his tail swayed comfortably behind him, it bumped into Swiss' every so often.
"hey there, how are you?" Swiss handed Rain the plate. he gladly took it, still never looking at Swiss while he ate.
they were silent, only the sound of the cool breeze on the water and the sounds of the forest could be heard. Swiss waited patiently for the water ghoul to respond. he looked out at the lake, knowing that if he kept staring Rain would get more nervous.
finally, after all the raspberries had been devoured, Rain spoke. "thanks for the snacks." he set the plate between them, taking another salmon. he still didn't look at Swiss.
"of course, anything for you!" the multi ghoul smiled.
Rain let those words swirl in his head. anything for him...? his tail stilled. he turned his head to look at Swiss, letting their eyes meet. deep blue to silver.
Rain scanned his face, taking in all the details. his dreads that fell over his forehead. his thick eyebrows and long lashes. the stubble that covered his chin. his eyes drifted back to Swiss'
he loved this ghoul.
those words continued to spin in his head. memories of times him and Swiss had joined those. he felt his mouth open and before he could stop himself, it slipped out.
"i- i think i like you! well...more like...love you.." his word's started strong but got quieter and trailed off as he finished. his cheeks burning with that same indigo color.
Swiss' eyes widened, a flush appearing on his own cheeks. he chirped: "really?"
Rain nodded, then it all came out. how he had fallen in love that first day they spent here at the river, how it only grew with every second he spent with the multi ghoul. he couldn't stop himself and kept going, he went on about how pretty he thought Swiss was and all the things he liked about him.
Swiss' smile just kept getting bigger throughout it all. unknowingly his tail had started to wag a little. Rain took notice and giggled, loosing track of what he was saying.
it was Swiss' turn now. "me too!" he started. Rains giggling stopped, he focused his eyes back on Swiss.
Swiss went on his own rant, he talked about how much he loved being around the water ghoul, how much more comfortable he felt around him. he continued to ramble, saying that he thought Rain was rather pretty himself. he loved his hair, the shape of it, the texture. his blue-gray skin and the freckles and scales that adorned it.
they were both giddy messes when he was done, their faces colored with blush. their tails were hitting one another in their excitement. when they collided again they coiled around each other in an embrace.
the two ghouls looked back at their tails, which seemingly had minds of their own. they looked back at each other. Rain couldn't handle the eye contact at first and looked down for a moment, worrying his fangs into his bottom lip. then without another word, he threw himself at Swiss, toppling them over onto the wood of the dock. Swiss couldn't get his arms around Rain faster. they hugged tightly, chest to chest. Rain nuzzling his nose into Swiss' neck, making the multi ghoul laugh.
"you should kiss me" Swiss blurted out. Rain lifted his from where it rested, shocked at first. Swiss flashed his fangs in a short, nervous, grin. Rain scooted up and onto Swiss further. passively noting the multi ghouls toned form.
they were eye to eye, once again. Rain took a deep breath. he'd wanted this for song long. why now, when he's finally getting the opportunity to, does he hesitate.
then Swiss reached his hands up to cup the water ghouls face, gently rubbing his finger over the scales on his cheeks. that was all Rain needed. he mirrored Swiss by placing his hands on the multi ghouls cheeks.
in no time they crashed their lips together. it was an awkward kiss no doubt but satan was it awesome. Rain never wanted to forget this moment.
they held that kiss till they couldn't breathe, pulling away from each other panting.
"lets do that again" Rain offered, still out of breath.
he didn't have to say it twice, they connected their lips again hastily. this kiss being only slightly less awkward than the last. they were gonna need some practice.
Swiss broke the kiss to move his hands down to Rains shoulders, he used this as leverage to push him up and over. turning them around so that Swiss was on top. he smiled lovingly down at Rain.
"can we go watch a movie!" Swiss asked, his tail thumping against Rains leg in excitement. "sure what were you thinking?"
Swiss sat up, bringing Rain with him. "i don't know, we can figure out when we get there!" this was most likely an excuse to cuddle with Rain but of course he didn't mind that. "alright then lets go!" Rain wiggled out from under Swiss and stood up, going over to pick up his clothes. he slipped his pants back on quickly. Swiss grabbed the plate on his way up. Rain waited patiently by the forest entrance for Swiss to catch up. they stood side by side the whole time as they walked back to the Abbey.
whether or not they would watch this movie is up to them. they were just simply happy to be with each other.
