Chapter 1: Bread and Butter

Chapter Text

If there is something in the world that Regina can’t live without, it’ll probably be breakfast. Yes. Breakfast. The first meal of the day. Most important as they say. A soft fluffy stacks of pancakes paired with a savory honey-cured bacon and perfectly cooked sunny side up. Don’t forget the hot chocolate.

Oh, a scrumptious morning indeed.

If there is something in the world that Regina loves seeing while eating breakfast, it’ll probably be her . Yes. Her. The EMT girl. The girl that always sits near the big window of the all day breakfast restau.

Every morning, Regina would catch a glimpse of her. Fascinated by her figure. Her outfit. Her aura. Adoring the girl’s facial features.

One could say that Regina is head over heels attracted to this stranger. That's true. The only mistake Regina could find in her, is the food she always orders.

A simple toast with cold butter on the side.

A bread.

and butter.

Literally no jam. No protein. Not even a coffee or tea on the side.

Just plain bread and butter.

“She’s so damn pretty but who the fuck eats bread and butter for breakfast.”

“I do.”

Regina choked on her pancake. She looked at the girl who she swears was just on the other side of the restau. Maybe it was her fault for daydreaming. But holy shit when did she approach Regina?

Narda smiled, a sly one. A sly one? This made Regina sweat in her seat. A bit of excitement and anticipation. Why is she smiling like that? Is she... is she flirting with me?

“Hindi ako makakain nang maayos. Grabe ka kasi makatingin. May problema ka ba sakin?” she said. Annoyed.

“A–ah?”

Regina asked back, unable to process anything. She's gay panicking. Narda is pretty but damn she is prettier up close.

Seeing no response, Narda murmur something that Regina can barely catch a word. Oh.. She looks irritated...

Well, of course she’s irritated. Hindi sya makakain nang maayos kasi grabe makatitig si Regina. That’s what she said.

Wow, ang kapal naman ng mukha nya para sabihin yan. I mean, yes, I look at her from time to time but she's near the window! I could be looking outside lang or just daydreaming! Not looking and staring at her beautiful face! And all the excuses Regina says in her head.

“Miss. Next time if you can’t help but to stare, pikit ka na lang.” Narda exclaimed to the girl spacing out in her seat. Finally sinking in, Regina scoffs in disbelief. As much as she’s so her type in terms of appearance,  this girl is nuts. Thinks too highly of herself!

Chaka ng ugali!

but she's so...

“I wasn’t staring at you.”

“Good. Stop stalking me too.”

“Excuse me? I’m here to enjoy my breakfast. Every day.”

“Ako rin naman but apparently someone can’t take their eyes off me, every day, and I can’t enjoy my own breakfast.” Narda firmly but calmly stated. She gave Regina an innocent smile but Regina returned it with a flirty lip bite.

Ang pogi nya rin pala tignan

Narda blinked twice. Confused with the lip bite. That isn't the reaction she was expecting. She was expecting an apology, a sorry, or a dialogue to argue with. Anything that is violent. Not a flirty lip bite!

“Wanna try other breakfast?” Regina said in a low seductive voice. Fuck this. Who cares if she’s a bitch. She’s really pretty. She can deal with that.

“Anong sabi mo?”

Raising her tone a bit, Narda leaned forward to examine Regina’s facial expression. Which is something she immediately regrets as the girl leaned more and whispered something in her ear. Narda can smell her perfume and god it smells heavenly. But heck with perfume! This girl is making her feel things. Things she doesn't know but surely it's something negative. Surely,

She can feel the hot air from Regina’s breath. Narda was about to lean back but she felt Regina's hand gripping her neck. Unabling her to move. The coldness of her hand gave Narda chills that crept up her spine, raising every hair on the back of her neck.

“All I’m saying is… maybe bread and butter isn’t a good breakfast. Wanna try mine?”

"Ayoko. Tigilan mo ko miss." Narda whispered back and took Regina's hand off her neck.

Pakipot naman neto.

Regina rolled her eyes in annoyance and crossed her arms. Narda gave her an  apologetic smile then walked back to her seat, to the table near the big window.

I can play your game.

As soon as Narda got comfortable in her seat, Regina appeared in front of her.

"Miss-"

"Regina." cutting her off, she introduced herself and offered her hand.

"Regina." Narda said.

Ampota ang lambing ng boses.

"Hindi ako interesa--"

"Ikaw?" cutting her off again, Regina asked.

"Anong ako?"

"Anong pangalan mo?"

"Bakit ko sasabihin pangalan ko?"

"I told you what my name is, the least you could do is tell me yours. Basic decency naman." Regina said that made Narda laugh. Talking about basic decency.

"So ano nga?"

"Darna."

"That's an odd name, are you sure ayun name mo?"

"I don't give my name to strangers."

"How about your number? Can you give me your number na lang? You're really cute."

Narda paused a bit. Thinking of something.

"Hindi rin eh. Sorry."

Regina can only sighed. She then scans the table, looking for something. She reached out for the table napkin beside Narda's plate and opened her purse to get her ballpen. She writes something in the tiny piece of used napkin and gave it to Narda.

"Since ayaw mo ibigay number mo, ako na lang magbibigay. Here. Reach me out please? I'll wait for your text."
