“Hey, Chief! Need help with anything?”

“WHAT!?! I’ll check it out right away.”

Wait. Is this even part of my job? Nevertheless the detective made his way toward the crime scene, although it was more of a getting-dragged-there by his shiba: Missile. The dog must’ve taken an interest in the savoury smell of grilled hotdog in the air, not exactly what Gumshoe was after but it was in the same direction at least.

A short distance from the scene of the crime- the crosswalk - the pair found the source of the enticing smell. A woman sat on one of the park’s wooden, green benches, indulging in one of Stu’s renowned hotdogs, based on the wrapper and the famous dog-catching smell. Why they didn’t specialize in stew was a missed opportunity in Gumshoe’s opinion. Though now his detective senses were tingling, she definitely could’ve witnessed the crime from there! Perhaps Missile really was taking his job seriously.

“Hi there pal! The name’s Dick Gumshoe. Could I ask ya a few questions?”, he smiled down at her.

The woman looked up, mouth full of savoury goodness, and held her hand up asking him to wait. She then took a swig of water while answering with an “Mhm”.

“Thank you ma’am, um so what’s a model doing in the park at this time?”, he asked out of pure curiosity.

The woman (model?), mid-chew yet again, widened her eyes and aggressively shook her head.

“Oh I’m no model”, she chuckled and averted her gaze. “I’m a nurse, just finally caught a break and wanted some fresh air for once”, she answered and hurriedly took another bite of the hotdog. Has this lady not eaten anything all day? The detective probably should’ve figured out her occupation from her white uniform, but hopes he’s forgiven due to getting distracted by how well it suits her.

“What a missed opportunity, I mean, considering your good looks you know? I mean- not that being a nurse isn’t great!”, he’d manage to fluster himself and could almost see Missile shake his little head.

“Mr. Gumshoe, did you come here to flirt with me?”, she asked, smirking? It was hard to tell when her expression was covered by another drink from her bottle.

“Oh right, you can just call me Detective Gumshoe. And well uh, not initially”, he grinned awkwardly while scratching the back of his neck. He noticed she had finished her meal, but not the hint of disappointment on her face from his response. Not knowing what other food she could take out next, he took this chance to actually do his job. “I’m here to investigate an incident that took place on that crosswalk in-front of you, uhh miss…?”

“Y/N L/N, and I don’t remember seeing anything out of the ordinary” she held her chin in her fingers, looking deep-in-thought. Cute. ”Can I ask what exactly happened, detective?” she asked him, patting the space on the bench next to her as an invitation. He happily obliged and sat not too close, but close enough to notice the bags under her eyes, drawing out a small frown from his lips.

“Well it took place about fifteen minutes ago” he checked his watch “at 12:05 pm”

“WHAT!?!” she practically teleported up off the wooden bench. “My shift- I need to- um” with pursed lips she turned back toward the detective. “Could we continue this after work? I know a great ramen place. My treat of course, y’know for the inconvenience” she smiled while slinging her small, lemon-shaped bag over her shoulder.

“…Miss L/N, are you asking me out on a date?”, he hadn’t intended for that to sound like a witty throwback to something she said earlier, he was just genuinely curious. But there was no hiding the goofy smile of hope that took over his face.

“Let’s call it an investigation date. Or an… investi-date”, she beamed and he couldn’t keep himself from letting out a hearty laugh. After happily waving her goodbye for now, he looked down at Missile with a smile he knew wouldn’t be getting off its shift anytime soon.

Notes:

I just made Stu's hotdogs up haha unless there's a character named Stu in any of the later AA games then it was definitely completely intentional
