Work Text:

You've always found comfort in your university's library. It was calm, rarely had more than five people at a time, and the aesthetics of it all motivated you to finish past-due assignments. Today was just like any other day, you were sitting at the tables near the room's biggest window, absorbing the sun's light with a group of friends and acquaintances. You had plans to be productive: to check your emails, do some freelance, and even finish writing that story you never finished. Things were going well until you suddenly felt a sharp pain in your chest as if someone pierced through it with a sword. You brush it off blaming it on something you ate until you felt it again and again and again. It wasn't until your head began to slowly develop a migraine that you checked your calendar and saw it was that time of the month.

You weren't in the slightest bit prepared given that you were wearing bright undergarments and there was no menstrual cup in sight. Of course the day you wanted to get shit done it decided to pop up, loud and proud at that. None of the people in your group noticed and you aimed to keep it that way. There was no use they would just pity you or give unwarranted apologies. It was simply easier in your overthinking to cry to yourself and avoided their conversation efforts.

After a while, everyone seemed to filter out going to their designated classes and jobs which just left you. Yeah, you had a class in 10 minutes but you just couldn't find yourself to get up and go. You were in so much physical pain along with dysphoric thoughts. You just wanted to hide from the world to curl up in a ball and cry. Swimming through your thoughts you didn't realize the familiar figure that walked in and began to approach you.

"Hey I got you matcha, your favorite, and- hey hey what's wrong?" your partner asked, immediately dropping everything and crouching beside you. You instinctively turned and buried your face into their chest. Oh my god, how pathetic you feel right now. Why couldn't you just be a man and push through this feeling?

Gerard rubbed circles into your side and rested their head on your shoulder. "Shh shh it's okay love, I got you, you're okay."

Gerard hated seeing their lover like this. It hurt them more than anything seeing someone so kind-hearted go through anything. If it were up to them they wouldn't let anything hurt you ever, but that's not how life works sadly. All they have control over is how they can help you through tough times. Y/N was the kind of person that needed constant reassurance, having they didn't get much praise at home and their last relationships made them think they weren't good enough. He knew this and was comfortable with it. You've never felt like a burden to him, the opposite actually. He's his happiness with you and you've allowed them to learn so many things about themselves and their outlook on the world.

"Why does it hurt so bad?"
"I don't know baby."
"I wanna die!"
"Woah now don't say that! This feeling is only temporary and you are so much stronger than this. Hey, I believe I have some Pamprin in my bag, Do you think that would help?"

"Yes please"

Gerard rummaged through his bags and found the small medicine bottle, popping off the cap & pulling out a purple pill. At his command you open wide and catch the tablet on your tongue, taking the straw of your drink into ur mouth and taking a gulp. "Good boy" he cooed ruffling a hand in your hair. "Now c'mere," your partner said motioning to their lap. You eagerly climbed them and they carried you to the more comfortable couch just a few feet away.

"Gerard'm gonna be late for class," you said worriedly. You were already behind on assignments you didn't want things to get any worse. "It's never bad to have a self-care day"

"But I can't"

"You shouldn't have to push through a feeling that you don't want to. Prioritize yourself Y/N."

You didn't have the energy to argue with your partner right now so you just sat there and sunk your face into their chest, shifting in their lap to make yourself more comfortable.

"When you're ready we can go home and turn on your favorite movie, perhaps with some tea and your favorite snack. How does that sound sweetheart?" You reply with an approving nod, feeling yourself drift into a state of relaxation.
