Return of the Awkwardness

Summary:

Gumball hates his awkward relationship with the Hot Dog Guy, but now he hates it even more because for some unknown, bizzare reason, they always seem to have an awkward interaction when his boyfriend is around.

Chapter 1: The Hallway

Chapter Text

The interaction couldn't have been timed more poorly. Gumball hadn't meant to brush against Hot Dog Guy's shoulder as they crossed paths in the hallway. He hadn't meant to turn his head to look into the other teen's eyes hidden behind his sunglasses. The words that were meant to be an apology, turned into a jumbled, garbled shriek of whatever noise could be described in such a way. As the two were almost passed each other, it happened.

Gumball couldn't tell whose foot collided with whose, but his own went the wrong direction and ended up entangled with Hotdog Guy's as they both grappled for whatever they could hold onto to keep themselves upright. It just so happened to be each other.

Both teen's held onto each other with their arms firmly clutching each other's shoulders, while staring intently at one another with sheepish grins on their faces. The temporary moment of awkwardness could not have been more painful for either of them, but reality seemed to love screwing them over.

A harsh cough from a few feet away alerted the two to where a third person was standing with his single eye widened with shock, but suddenly narrowing it with a cold stare-down. Hot Dog Guy's face was a mixture of fear and embarrassment, as he quickly entangled himself with Gumball, as the latter was trying to play it off as absolutely nothing suspicious had been going on.

The truth was nothing had gone on between them. But Rob did not know that. For all the pair knew, he could've just came around the corner just as the two seemingly tripped over one another and were a bit too close for his liking.

That's probably why he was burning a hole through Hotdog Guy at that particular moment.

After a few more audible words of apologies were given, the blue cat managed to fully separate himself from Hot Dog Guy and bounded over to his boyfriend, who thankfully was able to soften his gaze upon finally making physical contact with Gumball by placing his hand around the shorter male's waist and pulling him close enough so that their hips brushed against each other as they started heading in the opposite direction away from Hot Dog Guy, who was left feeling completely embarrassed, yet thankful that the awkward interaction didn't lead to him getting the crap beaten out of him for a simple misunderstanding. He just hoped no more incidents like today would ever happen again.
