Work Text:
They had come a long way as a family, especially Jean, and even more after their daughter was born.
Before that, Jean was so nervous about being a good father and, a little after, he felt a little lie an intruder in his partners’ new family.
Napoleon and his wife had done their best to reassure their partner, like they had done every other step of their relationship. Jean was healing from his past, but some shadows were hard to chase off. It took a lot of time and care and they were prepared to continue to deal with any that threatened their happiness.
It helped, later, that the little girl was especially fond of Jean. Whenever he had time, he was the one she dragged to her ‘classes’ with the other residents, or into her games.
At first, Jean questioned why she would be so eager to spend time with him. His partners always told him it was because she simply wanted to spend time with her father.
But moments like the one they were witnessing showed how far they had come. How Jean had grown more comfortable with his growing family.
Napoleon and his girlfriend had walked into the garden that afternoon, listening to their daughter’s laughter, cheerful and loud. But whatever had happened, she wasn’t the only one laughing, so was Jean.
His laughter was quieter but sounded equally amused. Such a refreshing sound. It had been so rare for them to hear their partner laugh like that, but these moments were becoming more frequent, mostly among themselves. Special family moments they all cherished.
Napoleon met his girlfriend’s eyes, both of them smiling at the heartwarming scene. And, although it wasn’t as obvious, Napoleon was sure the woman besides him was thinking the same thing he was. They would do their best to make their family as happy as they were made.
Exchanging a kiss and a laugh, the two joined the rest of their little family for some time together that would bring more joy and laughter to their lives.
