The most beautiful jewel of all

Summary:

Both created from the data of Sora's memories, two replicas, Xion and Xero have been told they are siblings by the Organization for their entire short lives, but the feelings they have for each other go far beyond those of brother and sister.

Work Text:

“Xero, Xion, the two of you will be pared together in today’s mission. Lord Xemnas expects positive results from your cooperation, do not fail him.”

The two replicas, unbeknownst to either of them, were both born from the same data. The lie that they had been fed was that the two had been siblings before losing their hearts, and they had no reason to doubt that information. Even if that were not the case, a rule against relationships between Organization members would no doubt be enacted if Xemnas saw any point to it. What use was love or romance to beings who could feel neither?

But the replicas, despite everything, could experience such feelings and found that they elicited them in one another. They were never ‘dating’ per se, but they would always find the time to spend in one another's presence, unaware and unfamiliar with these strange emotions, though they enjoyed them greatly.

This was the first time they had been placed on the same mission, though. The experience had been new to them, seeing each other fighting Heartless. Xero couldn’t help but be enraptured by the sweat glistening on Xion’s brow as she fought, and by her graceful movements, dancing around her enemies. Is this how brothers are supposed to feel about their sisters , he wondered. It must have been. Why else would he feel that way?

The mission was easy for the pair of them, and over in a flash, but neither wanted to RTC just yet. They wanted to enjoy their time together outside of the castle, and so they found themselves wandering Agrabah’s streets.

“Ah, you there, young man! You should buy your lady-friend one of my fine pieces of jewelery! A beautiful gem for a beautiful gem of a girl, yes?”

“Beautiful…” Xero looked over at Xion, her face flushed red by the compliment, too naive to know it was just a sales pitch, no matter how true the statement was.

“How much is it?” Xero asked. “I do not have much in the way of funds.”

“Ah, I’m afraid I cannot part with any of my wares for any less than 20,000 Munny.” The salesman said.

“That is far too expensive, I’m afraid.” Xero, unaware of the nature of haggling, took Xion’s hand and led her away from the stall.

“I am sorry, Xion.” Xero said. “I was unable to procure any jewels that match your beauty.”

“I… Xero, that’s fine.” Xion said. “I really don’t mind.”

“And even if I did, giving you a gift would raise questions among the Organization. I truly cannot apologise enough.” Xero continued, undaunted by Xion’s insistence it didn’t matter. “I’m a failure of an older brother.”

“Xero, you aren’t…” Xion trailed off. She knew that whenever Xero got like this, there was only one way to break him out of it. Cupping his face with both hands, she stood on her tip-toes and pulled him in for a kiss.

“I don’t need any fancy gifts, silly. I have you.”
