Work Text:
“How many times do I have to repeat myself? It wasn’t real!” Satsuki exclaimed fiercely. She had one of Mei’s old drawings of Totoro gripped in her hand. “We were imaginative kids. That’s. All.”
Mei had tears in her eyes but refused to let them fall. “You’re wrong! And you can’t sell this house. Our parents wouldn’t have wanted that.”
Satsuki waved the drawing around as she spoke. “You’re nearly an adult now. You have to grow up; stop acting like you’re still a baby.” Her words, however familiar, still hurt.
She watched as Satsuki ripped the drawing in half.
