Work Text:
Draken and Mikey were only walking through the streets around the brothel when everything goes sideways. They always did this, it was something they chose to do on weekends when there were no Toman duties to carry out.
It was going relatively smoothly, Draken had spent a ton of money on random food from street vendors, though that was nothing out of the usual. Mikey hummed a tune under his breath as they strolled.
The whole outing can be categorised as mediocre to say the least, as mediocre as it can be with Mikey by his side anyway, but it was somehow something they both enjoyed. Maybe it was because of the calmness compared to their life of gang activity, or maybe it was just because they could bask in the high summer sun and be in one another’s company, who knows.
They shared idle conversation as the smaller took his time eating one of the last dorayaki Draken had bought him. So, yeah, it was going well.. until Mikey gasped.
It was if a flip had switched. The atmosphere turned from a familiar warm to something spiky, prickly, and Draken had no idea why.
The taller startles as Mikey pulls him into an alleyway to their right, slotting in between two closely put together food stalls until they break out into a damp and dark area.
Mikey grabs Draken’s arm and pulls him into a side street, pushing him up against the brick. A hand is slapped over his mouth quite harshly in a way that makes Draken’s eyes water though he pays no attention to it.
He watches as Mikey peaks his head out from the alley, his eyes obviously trained on something. Draken’s eyebrows are raised to his hairline in surprise and curiosity, but he does not move.
They stay like that for a second, the pure pressure Mikey’s using on his face makes his body go into fight or flight. Something must be seriously wrong if Mikey’s acting like this. There must be someone there, like Hanma or some new rival gang. At the very least, it’s someone that definitely shouldn’t be seen in such a place.
Mikey’s eyes track whatever caught his eye until he leans back and takes his hand from Draken’s face, wiping it on the taller’s cardigan with a grimace — the elder doesn’t comment on it despite how disgusting Mikey’s being.
“So?” Draken whispers, leaning down slightly as he pushes himself off the wall, looking out the alleyway and into the busy streets, trying to spot whoever it was. Unfortunately, they must have disappeared, so Draken straightens up and frowns, “who was it?”
“Ken-chin..” Mikey begins, looking up to his best friends eyes with a solumn look Draken’s never truly seen from him before, “I think I just saw Chifuyu cheating on Baji.”
“Chifuyu?” Mikey nods.
At first, Draken nearly smacks the younger atop of his head, thinking, ‘No, that couldn’t be right’. Because of course it just can’t be. Draken has seen first hand — many times — just how bad Chifuyu is whipped for the other, he follows him like a puppy, he would do anything for him, he would throw himself off of a bridge if Baji even just hinted at it. His undying loyalty is scary to say the least.
“Matsuno Chifuyu?” Draken asks again, clearly wanting some sort of valid clarification. Mikey only nods once more.
“He was with some blonde boy. Blue eyes, smaller than him, they were eating something.. together,” Mikey continues. He then abrupt grabs Draken again and they leave the alley.
Pushing past the vendors once more, the Toman Commanders make their way to the other side of the street. They end up standing next to a large glass building, giving them the opportunity to look straight through onto the adjacent side of the next street.
Mikey cups his hands against the glass, doing his best to ignore the furniture inside, and analyses the people walking about, trying to spot Chifuyu and the mystery boy. And he does within seconds — finding two blondes in Tokyo is always going to like spotting an elephant in a bunch of chimpanzees.
“There!” He announces, pulling Draken by the braid down to his level. The elder winces at his hair being yanked but looks nonetheless, staring through the glass, too invested in what could end in being a breakup to scold his best friend.
Draken sees them instantly. Chifuyu has his arm around the smaller boys shoulders as the other is on his phone, chatting with a smile to their 1st Division Vice-Captain. Chifuyu has some type of fruit bowl in his hands, most likely from a vendor, which he feeds to the smaller boy every so often.
He pulls back, standing up straight as he runs a hand through his blonde hair. “We have to call Baji. This looks serious,” he states, staring down at Mikey before his eyes travel back to the boys as they continue walking done the street.
“You call him, he likes you more. If I did it, he’d definitely kill me!”
Draken scoffs, “I thought you were the ‘Invincible Mikey’?” He uses air quotations with a smug look on his face. The smaller can only frown, but still doesn’t take his phone out, so Draken sighs and digs his hand into his pocket.
Pulling out the plastic device, he flips it open and scrolls for a second before he finds Baji’s contact. He hesitates for a second, and then presses ‘call’. Draken holds the phone to his ear and listens to the rhythmic tone ringing out. And then it stops.
“Yeah Draken?” Baji’s low voice rumbles through the small speaker. He sounds sleepy, and the blonde really hates that he’s going to ruin his day off with something like this. “Did I miss a meeting?” he asks, as clueless as ever.
Draken looks down at Mikey, who nods enthusiastically at him — he grimaces. “There’s something in Sibuya you might want to see,” he starts slowly. He’s not even sure if he should break it to him on the phone, the chance of Baji setting cars on fire may very well go up if he begins to get angry, and if this situation is really what they think it is, then please help them all.
Baji groans tiredly, probably still in bed by the sounds of things. “What are you talking about?” He questions, slight annoyance evident in his tone.
“We think Chifuyu is cheating on you..” Draken pulls a pained face as he says it, not wanting to accuse a member of such a thing. His eyes then furrow as Mikey face palms in front of him — he’ll trip him over later as revenge.
Baji’s side goes silent, quiet, so quiet that Draken takes the phone away from his ear, wondering if Baji had ended it in a rage, Draken wouldn’t put it past him. He hadn’t though, so he places it back by his ear.
“Baji?” He calls to him. There’s the sound of a shuffle on the other end before laugher meets his ear. Baji.. is laughing? “Hey! What are you laughing for, this is serious!”
“He’s laughing?” Mikey questions, to which Draken pushes him away, turning away from the smaller in confusion than anything else.
Baji groans once more, stretching out his back, maybe, as he gets up from bed. “Where you at? Send me your location and I’ll be there in twenty.” He then ends the call abruptly and Draken blanks, sending the address on autopilot.
Mikey pulls on his sleeve then, so the elder turns back around, meeting eyes once more. “So?”
“He’s on his way.”
“Okay, then let’s spy on them more. I’m thinking we should get disguises..” Mikey spins around and looks down the street, looking for any wig stores or something alone those lines. Thankfully, not to far away is a joke store, so Mikey drags Draken over, the elder lets himself be pulled with little to no resistance.
Draken browses the shelves, his finger trailing over the dark wood before picking off some fake thick rimmed glasses, while Mikey gets a propeller hat — it’s fitting for him. They then both get a pair of binoculars that feel as if they leave a physical dent in Draken’s wallet. In record speed, they pay and travel back to the glass window, now adorning their new articles of clothing.
By this point, Chifuyu and the mystery boy have now sat down at a small cafe. They sit outside, under a small umbrella that shades them from the summer sun.
Mikey and Draken take this as a cue to leave their hiding spot as the pair order. Their binoculars hang around their necks, unused for the time being. They walk cross the street and take a seat on a bench not too far away, where they look down at their phones and text one another secretly.
‘They got some orange juice and water!’ Mikey texts him enthusiastically, nudging his ribs softly with his elbow. Draken winces and sends back an annoyed emoticon.
The elder then puts down his phone and picks up the binoculars, staring. He watched as Chifuyu offers some of his juice to the blue eyed boy, who waves his hand out in refusal. The smaller boy pulls back as Chiduyu continues to push the glass forwards towards his face.
“Come on! You’ll like it!” Draken imagines Chifuyu saying as he rises out of his seat, obviously very determined. The mystery boy only sighs and commands him to sit down with a stern point to the seat, which Chifuyu does, but not without a frown.
The blue eyed boy then leans over the table and wraps his lips around the straw. Draken watches as the muscles of his neck tense. He then, quite humorously, sits back abruptly and pulls a disgusted face. He most likely complains of the taste as Chifuyu rolls his eyes and takes a sip of the orange juice himself. He then shrugs, probably saying that ‘it wasn’t that bad!’.
Draken and Mikey continue to watch the pair as they order food, and persist when it arrives. The two feed one another with smiles as they make idle talk in between mouthfuls. And just as they finish, someone sits beside Mikey.
Draken looks up in alarm, as does Mikey, too engrossed in spying to notice someone coming over. Fortunately, it’s just Baji, and Mikey dissolves into the bench, a hand over his heart.
“Why’d you come up to us like that? I nearly died!” Mikey whines, closing his eyes as he takes a couple slow breaths to calm his breathing.
“Where’s Chifuyu?” Baji ignores Mikey in favour for looking around. He doesn’t even need to hear a reply though, because he spots his boyfriend sitting down with the other man.
Draken watched his eyes, waiting for that telltale sign of his eyebrow twitching in anger and the hardening of his eyes. Yet, it never comes, and instead of getting angry and stomping over with fire in his eyes.. Baji smirks! He rolls his, scoffing as he gets up from the bench . Draken watches as he walks over to the pair with a childish glint in his eyes.
Belatedly, the taller realises that maybe he and Mikey have misjudged the situation.
When Chifuyu spots Baji walking over, he stands up with a smile, not panicked and worried like Draken thought he’d be. Instead, it’s the complete opposite, the mystery boy even gets up to greet Baji.
The black haired male places a kiss to Chifuyu lips before pulling the blue eyed boy into a chokehold, ruffling his hair before breaking apart. The smallest frowns as his hands fly to his hair, patting it down, an annoyed furrow to his eyebrows.
They share quick conversation before Baji points over in their direction. Draken pulls a hand over his face and looks in the opposite direction, while Mikey yanks his propeller cap over his eyes. They pretend to have not seen them until Baji calls in their direction.
“Draken, Mikey, come over.”
And with their cover being blown, the two can’t do anything but embarrassingly get up. Draken shoves the fake glasses into his pocket and walks over casually, as if he hadn’t just been poking his nose where it didn’t belong. Mikey however, looks anywhere but the three men as they walk closer, doing everything in his power to ignore their gazes.
Chifuyu huffs when they arrive, “I can’t believe you’ve been spying on me!” The pair at least have the decency to look a little ashamed as they avoid eye contact.
“They thought you were cheating,” Baji helpfully supplies, much to the dismay of Draken and Mikey, “they called me when I was sleeping, all frantic and astonished. I already knew you were out with Takemichi today, but I thought it’d be fun to embarrass them a little.”
“You’re so hilarious!” Mikey says, dragging out the ‘o’ with sarcasm so strong that Draken can practically feel it in the air.
Chifuyu can only find himself to roll his eyes at the whole situation and then shares a look with Takemichi. He can only laugh behind his hand at the fact two people had been following them around because they thought they were.. dating?! Truthfully, they hadn’t even noticed. It also seems alien that anyone would think of that upon seeing them together.
“Draken, Mikey, while I appreciate you looking out for Baji, I really do, and I understand why you did this.. Takemichi,” Chifuyu points to the blue eyed boy by his side, “is my older brother.”
Draken quickly turns around and walks away, “I’m going home.”
“Ken-chin?!” Mikey calls quickly, spinning to see his best friends retreating back, “you’re leaving me?!” The taller just waves over his head in dismissal and turns the corner, quickly disappearing out of sight. Mikey then spins back, cooling his expression, as he looks at.. Takemichi in front of him, “your brother?”
“Yeah,” Chifuyu’s brother nods with a smile, “‘Fuyu has told me so much about you guys! I’m glad we’re finally meeting, even if it is under, um, weird circumstances.”
Mikey, finally looking at the boy, feels himself drown in Takemichi’s blue eyes, so much so that he actually forgets where he is. And when he does, the boy is staring at him with a concerned face.
Toman’s Commander snaps out of it quickly and straightens up. “So, you mean to tell me that he’s not dating anyone?” Mikey questions with wide eyes.
“Hm, no, not that I’m aware of,” Chifuyu says, mostly to himself and Takemichi, as he looks over at him when he speaks.
“Yeah, I’m not dating anyone right now!” Takemichi confirms with a smile, meeting Chifuyu’s eyes quickly before coming back to Mikey’s smaller form.
“Do you.. do you want to go out on a date with me?” Mikey questions with a small flush of pink on his cheeks as he stares at the youngers stunning ocean eyes. He points to himself as he speaks, looking up at the taller male sheepishly.
“What?!” Chifuyu screams.
