Work Text:
Albus loved the stars. Stars were wild, free, careless, and could do what they wanted, whenever they wanted. Albus sometimes wished he could become one.
But of course, she obviously couldn’t, so she did the next best thing. He painted them.
At night, Albus would go outside into a field, sit down, and just paint. It helped to calm them down when they got anxious, scared, upset, ect.
After her mother died, Albus went out to paint the stars a lot more often, and the longing to be one of them got even greater.
Until one day, he met a person who might as well have been the galaxy. The person’s hair was wild and untamed like the stars, their black and white eyes reminded Albus of an eclipse, and the person was as perceptive as a telescope.
The person’s name was Gellert.
Albus and Gellert couldn’t be separated. They followed each other.
And just as Gellert sat and let Albus rant about the stars, and the out of the world things that humans had yet to reach, Albus would sit and listen when Gellert talked about stories, mainly the old fantasy stories about dragons, warriors, gods, heroes, villains, and romance.
Eventually, Gellert began to go outside at night with Albus and simply watch her paint.
But one night, Albus didn’t paint. They were laying down, head rested on Gellert’s lap, and the two just talked.
“Did you know that the sun is a star?” Albus asked Gellert, curiosity shining in their eyes.
Gellert laughed, “No, I didn’t.” She replied.
“Well, now you do.”
That earned another laugh from Gellert.
They sat in silence for a moment, just taking in the beauty of the star covered sky, before Albus asked another question;
“Gel, what’s your favorite planet?”
Gellert thought for a few moments. He’d never really thought about that before.
“Well, I guess I’d have to go with Saturn.”
Albus smiled, “You know,” He said, “I’ve always imagined that Saturn’s rings are always just trying to give it a big hug. But Saturn is always pushing them away.”
Gellert smiled back and ran a figure through Albus’ hair. He noticed at this point that Albus was half asleep.
“I used to wish I was a star,” Albus explained tiredly, “I wanted to be able to roam around, dance, basically do anything I wished without being judged.”
And before Gellert could say anything, Albus was asleep.
Gellert himself began to feel tired, so instead of apperating him and Albus home like she probably should have, he motioned Albus off their lap and onto the ground while proceeding to lay down next to her.
And before drifting off into the world of their own dreams, she whispered into Albus’ ear;
“You’re the brightest star, for your beauty outshines the suns”
