Work Text:

The sun was long gone, slipping under the tall buildings of their town, and eventually under the horizon, too far to see. The sky morphed from a bright blue to a slightly darker shade, until the skies bursted into orange and yellow.

The two sat on the curb, on the edge of their neighborhood sidewalk together, huddled up close to each other as they shared a pair of earphones, belonging to Craig. One earbud was in Tweek’s right ear and the other bud in the dark haired boy’s. A soft tune flowed through the wires and into their ears, and Tweek’s head pressed onto his boyfriend’s shoulder as he leaned in closer.

Craig could tell he was tired. The soft flutter of his eyelashes as his eyes closed and opened slowly, his slowed inhales and exhales, and the slow progression of his weight leaning onto him was a dead give away. He didn’t blame him, he hardly slept nowadays, and they had been out all day. Tweek didn’t like being at home with his parents, and they had reached the limit to how many sleepovers over Craig’s house they could have before it stopped being acceptable for friends to have in one week.

His parents still didn’t know, neither of their parents knew. They wouldn’t be able to be like this if they did, to them, their relationship just seemed like two close friends. Thomas would kill him if he knew.

If he was being honest, Craig sort of liked keeping their relationship away from their family and friends. Of course, people at their school had suspected them being together, but nothing was confirmed. He liked the idea of having Tweek to himself without people knowing and being in their business, it was sort of an unspoken promise, his loyalty. Tweek was his alone, and he didn’t need anybody else to know to prove that.

Purposely, Tweek leaned closer to Craig and nestled his face into his chest.

“I don’t want to go back home..” he mumbled against his collar. Craig quietly sighed and ran his fingers through his boyfriend’s wild hair.

“I know.”

“I don’t want to leave you.”

“I know.”

He sighed quietly, and some may have mistaken it for sadness, but Craig knew it was out of contentment.

“I can’t wait to get out of here.” he mumbled.

“Me neither. Maybe we can get a house together somewhere out of South Park, soon.”

“Yeah. You promised you would, remember?”

Craig nodded and placed a gentle kiss to the blonde’s hair, who chuckled incredulously at that.

“Don’t kiss my hair, you weirdo..” he muttered.

“Don’t fall asleep, we can’t go back too late. It’s almost dark out.” Craig warned.

“I’m not going to.” he reassured, but he made no attempt to move.

Craig didn’t know when he would fulfill his promises. He had no money, no job, and no vehicle. He had no way to keep his promise, but he would.

He didn’t know when he and Tweek would be able to feel free, without constrictions and negativity. He didn’t know when all of this could melt away, and they wouldn’t have to be ashamed to be together.

He glanced back down to his boyfriend, gently poking him in the cheek to alert him it was getting too late to stay out, but Tweek was already breathing softly on his chest.
