The town of Coolsvile was a peculiar one for mysteries. For years, Coolsvile had seen a rise in crooks disguising themselves as Monster’s for their own selfish ends. That was until they were all stopped by a mystery solving group called Mystery Inc.
However, a fact that isn’t as well known is that monsters actually do exist. They just happen to do a better job at concealing themselves, as opposed to the many monster pretenders out there.
It was a normal night in Coolsvile as the fancy restaurant called Barbara’s had lots of customers. Unfortunately the manager called Mr Harris had to kick out a patron for breaking the rules.
The doors to the restaurant opened as Shaggy Rogers and his beloved pal Scooby Doo were kicked out to the street.
“Like, what’s your problem man?” Shaggy pleaded.
“My problem is that you don’t seem to read our signs!” Mr Harris said.
Harris then pointed to a sign that clearly said no dogs or other pets allowed.
“Scoob isn’t my pet, he’s my best friend and I wouldn’t just leave him on the street” Shaggy said.
“Reah, reah” Scooby replied in his distinctive broken English.
“Well then, you will have to go somewhere else then or I know even better, the dog house!” Mr Harris shouted.
Mr Harris and his security guards then closed the doors, leaving Shaggy and Scooby to pick themselves up off the floor.
“Don’t worry Scoob, I’m sure we will find somewhere else to eat”.
“I rope so” Scooby replied.
“Heck if those people knew how many times we saved this town, we would have like VIP status or something”.
Shaggy and Scooby began their walk across the sidewalks. They eventually walked into a park. As they walked, the wind began to howl. Scooby of course was on edge as he swore he heard someone talking.
They eventually walked up to a water fountain where the duo saw a peculiar sight. They saw a suit of medieval knight’s armour standing before the fountain.
Shaggy could see that his pal was shaking nervously.
“It’s alright buddy, it’s just a empty piece of armour”.
Shaggy then lightly tapped the knight’s helmet to prove his point.
Just when they were about to leave, the knight motioned to life as if it were awoken from its sleep.
“Halt, who goes there?” The knight asked nervously.
This sudden reaction caused Scooby to jump into his owner’s arms.
“Please don’t hurt us mr. knight, me and my pal Scooby were just walking in this fine park, please don’t hurt us!” Shaggy pleaded.
“Wait, Coach Shaggy and Scooby, is that you?” The knight asked.
“Huh?” They both replied.
The knight put its hands around its helmet and took it off. The knight took its helmet off to reveal that the person inside was a female mummy with a pink bow on her head.
“Tanis?” Shaggy exclaimed.
“Coach Shaggy, Coach Scooby!” Tanis exclaimed as she went towards Scooby to hug him.
Both of them could see that Tanis was a bit taller from when they last saw her. It had been three years since they and Scrappy were hired as gym teachers for Ms Grimwood’s School for girl ghouls.
Although they had let their fear of monsters initially get the better of them, they soon saw that they were in no harm once they got to know the students.
There was Sibella, the vampire daughter of Dracula, Elsa, the daughter of Frankenstein’s monster, Winne, the daughter of the Wolf man, Phantasma, the daughter of the Phantom of the Opera, and finally Tanis, the daughter of Kharis, the mummy.
“Tanis, what are you doing out here and In knight’s armour?” Shaggy asked.
“To blend in and for our scare assignment” Tanis replied innocently.
“Rare Rissigment?” Scooby asked.
“You can come out now Phanty!” Tanis yelled into the distance.
Just then Phanty appeared out of nowhere in front of Shaggy and Scooby, causing the latter to fall.
“Oops sorry” Phanty said as she gave a giggle.
“Rats okay” Scooby replied.
“It’s so nice to see you again” Phanty said as he was about to hug the pair, but momentarily forgetting that she would just pass through them.
“Wait does Ms Grimwood know that you two are out here?” Shaggy asked.
“Of course, she was the one that paired us on this scare assignment” Phanty replied.
“And what is a scare assignment?”.
“It’s when we girl ghouls go out to the human world and see if can scare any” Tanis answered.
Ms Grimwood had set the girls on this task and in pairs. Tanis and Phanty were paired together, while the others were off in their own group. This was beneficial to their education as well as other curriculum activities such as English, Math and of course gym.
“Well you sure scared us, right Scoob?” Shaggy asked his friend while nudging him.
“Reah”
“That was a mistake, I had fallen asleep, I’m never going to be a good scarer!” Tanis worried.
“It’s alright Tanis remember what Ms Grimwood said, we are better at some areas than others” Phanty stated.
“It’s just that you and the others can pull off scary better than I can”.
Beneath her exterior, Tanis was still the sweet innocent mummy girl that she was in her youth. She had problems regarding her self esteem. She had trouble expressing herself with emotions other than happiness. She honestly preferred reading and practicing spells rather than scaring people.
“Perhaps we can help” Shaggy interjected.
“How?” Tanis asked.
Back at Barbera’s restaurant, it was getting very busy with customers. Tables were packed left right and centre with people.
“This is most excellent!” Mr Harris exclaimed as he looked at his packed dining room.
Just then, the lights began to flicker on and off. The guests didn’t know how to feel at this moment.
At the largest table, there was a woman eating a slice of chocolate cake. She and the other people were in for a shock as Phanty came up from the table.
“I don’t know about any of you guys but if I eat any more, I might actually die, oh wait” Phanty punned with a grin.
The crowd screamed and ran to the nearest exit. They then heard a loud bird call coming from all around. However, what they didn’t see that this was actually Tanis making bird calls into a megaphone courtesy of Scooby Doo.
“Calm down everyone, this must be some gag or something” Mr Harris said, trying his best to calm everyone down.
“Really, then how about I show you a gag!” Phanty said as she drove a chair right into Harris. She then lifted the chair up high and dumped Harris onto the crowd of onlookers.
The crowd went crazy and raced to the front doors. A big light appeared which illuminated Tanis to appear the size of a giant.
“Behold, the might of the mummies curse!” Tanis boomed.
Tanis then conjured up more shadows to come and scare the humans even more. They weren’t real of course but illusions conjured up from her spell book.
The crowd of people along with Mr Harris ran out of the restaurant in groups of three. When the dust settled, Shaggy and Scooby came out of their hiding places and joined Tanis and Phanty.
“Now that’s a wrap” Tanis said.
“Yeah, it looks like we gave them their just desserts” Phanty punned.
“That was great guys!” Shaggy said.
“Thank you for your help, we couldn’t have done I without you” Tanis said.
“No problem, me and Scoob are happy to help”.
Scooby Doo gave a chuckle to himself.
“Oh my is that the time?” Phanty said as she looked at her stopwatch.
“Rhats wrong” Scooby asked.
“We have to get back to Grimwoods in half a hour”.
“But surely you have time for a little snack?” Shaggy asked.
Shaggy them pointed over to the all you can eat buffet table? How could the girls deny the gratitude of their former tutors, especially after they helped them in their need.
“Sure, why not” Tanis said.
