“-ever thought what would happen if humans all turned into bees and we had to repopulate the planet?” An whipped around, suddenly distracted from her laptop where she was writing an essay, immediately recognizing her favorite familiar voice speaking absolute nonsense behind her.
“Huh?-What? Mizuki, literally what are you saying right now?”
Mizuki grinned cheekily and repeated their ridiculous question while walking over to An’s desk from their previous position sprawled out lazily on her bed- “I said, ‘Have you ever thought what would happen if humans all turned into bees and we had to repopulate the planet?’” and flicked An’s forehead playfully. An rolled her eyes at her girlfriend’s antics and returned to her work.
“Please, Mizu, I have to writeeee.” An drew out the syllable while making puppy dog eyes at Mizuki as they clung to her.
“But I’m boredd!!! Chemistry homework is so boring! Bored, bored, boredddd, Mizuki’s boredd!” Mizuki sang in a whiny tone, and An patted their head affectionately. “Silly. I would love to fuck around with you right now but I really have to work.”
“You absolutely have to work on an essay that’s due in two weeks..?”
“Yes! Not being behind is nearly the same as being late.” An sighed while tapping out a few more words.
“That’s not even close to true.”
“Well, your philosophy is to get nine assignments done in the last few hours it’s due” An retorted.
“It works for me! Besideees, I always get nearly an 85 or better, so. Nerdass.” Mizuki stuck out their tongue at their girlfriend, who was pretending to still be hard at work.
“This nerdass is aiming for a 4.2 GPA” An bantered back while still clacking away at her keys. The room went silent for nearly a whole minute and a half until Mizuki dramatically sighed and flopped on the carpeted floor, looking up at An’s skylight above. They started flailing on the ground eventually going still all while making sounds imitating a heart monitor flatlining. “Beep. Beep. Beeeep. Beeep. Beeeeeep. Beeeeeep-“, laying silent for almost a total of five seconds before declaring in an imitation of a hoarse and dying voice. “Well, now, babe you killed me. With boredom!!! I’m dead and you don’t have a girlfriend anymore.”
An sighed and closed her computer lid and joined Mizuki on the floor where they lay looking up at the sky through the small window that the afternoon light streamed through. An mumbled something that sounded like “dramatic ass” while pressing a kiss to the side of Mizuki’s head.
“Well, I’d like my girlfriend to stay alive. Mayyyyybe my essay can wait. For just a little while.” An conceded while holding their girlfriend close. Mizuki clapped their hands and excitedly nuzzled their head into An while giving her a quick peck where lips met skin. They buried their face into her neck and she gave them another kiss on their head. The two lay there and watched the sky turn from white fluffy clouds and baby blue to overcast and cloudy within a few minutes. The sky became gray in a matter of seconds as rain poured down in heavy sheets.
Mizuki sat up with a shot, startling An and knocking their bony elbow against their girlfriend in the process of getting up, prompting a surprised yelp out of her. “Dude, duuuuude oh my god let’s go outside,” They pulled An by the arm, getting her on her feet with an excited look on their face.
“Right now?” An protested, it was really coming down now.
“Yes, right now!!! Come onnnn, I love the rain so much, and we can jump in puddles and you can even splash me.” The offer did sound tempting. “Pleeease?” Mizuki whined and tapped their legs excitedly. They pulled out that soft voice of theirs that they knew An could never resist. An would always oblige Mizuki’s wishes in the end anyway.
“Fine, fine! Yes, babe, we’ll go outside,” She caved and added “but only if you don’t manage to pull off my entire arm, jesus christ”, as Mizuki practically dislocated her shoulder in excitement. They gave her the biggest smile and danced their way toward the front door. The rain pitter-pattered on the ground while the couple got their shoes on. An slung on her windbreaker, noting her girlfriend forgot a jacket in their excitement. Mizuki took her hand and the two ran outside, quickly getting pelted by the droplets, feeling their clothes and hair get soaked through in only a few short minutes.
An’s long hair became stringy and damp and several strands stuck to her forehead as she giggled and twirled Mizuki in the rain. The two laughed and danced, spinning and jumping in puddles until their shoes were soaked. Mizuki’s shirt was clinging to their body, and An noticed goosebumps form on their bare forearms. An wordlessly shrugged off her jacket and draped it across their shoulders. With a kiss pressed gently to Mizuki’s temple, she pulled her girlfriend in close in a tender hug. They swayed in the rain together, slowly dancing in each other's arms. The stress and tension from the day faded away as the two held each other, and the whole world disappeared until it was just them.
“An?” Mizuki glanced down a bit to make eye contact and lifted An’s chin with their thumb and index finger. “Mmmh?” A contented noise fell off of An’s lips in response.
“I love you” Mizuki whispered, in a hushed voice so only An could hear. The words fell as easily from their mouth as it had for months, but it always made each of them grin ear-to-ear when the other said it.
An grinned and pressed her forehead against theirs, “I love you too” An whispered back, “you’re my favorite in the entire universe” Mizuki murmured the universe is a whole lot under their breath with a blush appearing on their cheeks.
An kissed the bridge of their nose as the rain soon let up, slowing down to a drizzle as the skies cleared and a hint of blue peeked through the gray. An gave Mizuki one last twirl and dip as they wordlessly agreed to return inside to warm up and cuddle on the couch, An’s schoolwork fully forgotten.
