Han felt like he was getting big fast. His abdomen seemed to balloon out from his body once he began his second trimester, and showed absolutely no signs of slowing down any time soon. He still had six months to go after all. By the time Han was entering his third trimester, he had begun to waddle everywhere instead of walking.
Han felt huge now. He felt like a small planet with his large, protruding belly. He was certain, and thankfully so were the medcenter scans, that he was only carrying one baby, but Leia being a twin had him worried early on with how big he had gotten.
By this point, Luke had convinced Han to only take on supply run missions from the Republic, concerned for Han and the baby's safety. Han had also joked that his belly really didn't let him do much of anything else anyways, when he agreed to slow down on missions.
It was on one of these supply runs, early into Han's third trimester, that Luke posed a question to him that the former smuggler had really only considered once or twice.
"Don't you think we should settle down?" Luke asked, interrupting Han's ranting about how he was going to manage the remainder of the pregnancy when he was already so big.
"You...what?" Han replied with confusion, having not processed what Luke had asked.
"I think we should settle down," Luke said, rephrasing his words into a statement. He turned his chair to face Han before he continued. "If not on Yavin IV, then perhaps on Coruscant? We'd be close to some of the best medcenters in the galaxy."
"Fuck Coruscant," Han said after a moment of processing Luke's words. In a more serious tone, he looked back at Luke, a hand resting atop his distended belly. "I wouldn't mind settling down on Yavin IV though."
Admittedly, Han had not given much thought to settling down, but now that he thought about it, the idea was definitely appealing, especially with a little one on the way. He took a moment to imagine life with Luke and their baby. Of course they would still find a way to be part of the New Republic, but they would have a place to call home that was more stable than a ship for the first time in Han's life.
"You mean that?" Luke asked, bringing Han's thoughts back to the present. Luke scanned his husband's face for a response.
"Of course I do," Han replied, face softening in sincerity. "I'd like that. To settle down together."
Luke couldn't help the smile that graced his lips, dopey and kind, a smile that melted Han's heart. He hadn't expected Han to want to settle down, since his life had always been among the stars. It was a pleasant surprise to hear Han agree.
Luke leaned in closer to Han, his hand coming to rest on the side of his partner's large, round belly. Han couldn't resist the urge to shift closer and capture Luke's lips in a kiss, smiling into it himself. Luke moved a little closer as they kissed, closing the gap between them completely and snaking his other arm around Han's waist, keeping him close.
They stayed like this for several moments, locked in each other's lips, before a shift kick made Han pull away with a grunt.
Luke couldn't help the soft laugh that escaped his lips as he rubbed the side of Han's belly.
"I love you,"
"I love you too,"
