“Ok! Ok!” ochako said with a giggle as bakugou looked at a random wall, already bored of the ordeal
“Since you guys asked, yes! I and Katsuki are dating” She covered her face, making sure she didn't touch it with her pinkies
The whole class gasped and cheered, Denki and the others teased bakugou but izuku looked frozen in time
It was a mix of shock, disbelief, and heartbreak. He froze up for a moment, not knowing how to process this information.
Then it sunk as a wave of emotions washed over him
Jealousy, betrayal, loss
But Kacchan was never his, to begin with, was he? Look how he was replaced with ease
His omega was breaking, clawing, and gnawing to /get out/ and do something! But what can he do?
He felt a deep sense of loss and betrayal, as his instincts are telling him that Bakugou should be his mate yet he was Ochako’s.
Izuku felt a tap on his shoulder, todoroki
The alpha was reacting out of his own dynamic, he noticed izukus distress and felt a strong urge to comfort him, driven by his alphas instinct
“Do you need to step out?” he whispered low enough only the two could hear each other
“No” izuku shook his head, giving him a weak smile
Izuku could see his friend's intentions were pure but his omega is denying any comfort from anyone that wasnt Kacchan, his true mate.
“I'm just–im leaving to take a second–everyone's happy pheromones are making me sick” izuku mumbled, coughing into his hands as the alpha pats his back
The noise brought a few concerned eyes his way and allowed the omega to step out without question but bakugou was surrounded by so many people he didn't even hear the door slide open and close
“Is he okay? Kero” Tsuyu places her finger on her lip
Todoroki doesn't know how to approach this, he’s not an omega
His eyes drifted off to a very small bright green petal by his desk and he picks it up
“He must've had it in his hair, kero. I hope he’s okay” She mumbles
“It's strange, isn't it? There are not supposed to be leaves in winter”

'Kacchan is dating someone else' izuku says to himself as he stares at the mirror of the bathroom
It was getting briefly harder to breathe but he believes its because he ran to the farthest bathroom
His chances with katsuki were truly over
Now, he knows a high school relationship dont last most of the time but this showed something, that the blond never saw him the way he did
They will never be something even if they're meant to be
He coughs again and a single small petal lands on the sink
Fate made them bond and his mother has told him countless of stories of her job at the hospital of those who die from a broken heart
Hanahaki disease
His eyes widened as his legs begin to tremble, he had gone pale
This will only get worse, isn't it?
Why did he believe he and kacchan had a special connection? Why did he secretly hold onto hope they would've ended together?
He feels sick, and a broken heart is not the only reason for it
Izuku didn't attend school after he left, instead, he chose to lock himself in his room and excuse it as a preheat which the others left him alone without much thought
Not katsuki though
“Open it, deku” the alpha ordered
“You're an alpha kacchan, you're not allowed near me even in my preheats” he mumbled
Plus? Isn't he supposed to hang out with his new girlfriend? The girl that publicly told everyone about their feelings and the guy that would normally fuss about any unneeded attention let it happen
He did something for her that he wouldnt do often, isn't that love?
Izuku coughed even harder, gripping the bedsheets as slightly larger petals fell to the ground, it was getting harder to breathe and bakugou was not helping it
“Ive known you since we were kids and that means I have your schedule planned--"
"Gross, kacchan" izuku interrupted
izuku could picture an angry bakugou on the other side because of his response
"You're sick, that's what you are. You were never good with the fucking cold anyways, open it or Im getting Aizawa”
“Why?!” izuku spat out, removing a petal off from his tongue
“Leave me alone, im not–not bothering anyone!” he cried and slumped into the bed
Getting weaker too...
There was a ‘tch’ on the other side of the door and the footsteps got lighter as he walked away
A strained sigh left his body as he ran a hand over his sweaty forehead
He was hungry, but didnt want to ask for help
Luckily, because he was in 'preheat' he could walk out for a bit to get supplies as long as he covers his scent gland, unluckily...the famous 1-A couple was on the sofa
Izuku gripped the counter, coughing as hard as he could while his legs gave out, he had a mask on but it was stuffed with petals,he crawled to the nearest trashbags to dump it all away
Oh, it must be nice, isn't it? Amazing
Ochako /knew/ about the feelings he had for bakugou
SHE KNEW!
She was there every time the omega ranted on about how amazing he was
About his creativity and fast thinking
He fell in love with everything kacchan had to offer and now he’s puking flowers because his best friend confessed to a guy he loved
He has to call his mom before things get worse for him, shouldn't he–
"Midoriya?"
Izuku jolted up, covering his face again
“You look sick and pale” Iida said, placing a hand on izukus's shoulder and izuku mentally cringed at it
It wasnt his alpha after all, but a beta would do
“Im okay” he rasps out
“My pre-heats does that, I have medicine my mom suggested and–and shes a nurse so–”
He blinks, his eyes were studying izukus actions and body language but he was just a kid just like izuku, in his eyes, his friend was going through a normal process and he already had medicine for it
That would not stop the beta from having a talk with Aizawa behind close quarters though, something just wasnt right
“Um–good night” izuku waved before grabbing packages of chips and running off with them into the elevator
Crimson eyes caught sight of him but just as bakugou was about to catch up the elevator doors closed, leaving a medium size petal floating around before landing on the floor
The blond crouched
“What the fuck..?” he mumbled
“Is he keeping a garden in his dorm now? In winter?” he asked
Hands wrapped around his arm, ochako didn't have to be careful because she was wearing gloves/
“We should tell the others about the practice we had–”
“In a minute, pink cheeks” He detached from her as hanta called them in from the kitchen
“Hey guys–why is there a shit ton of petals on the floor” the darker hair beta asked
“The trash can is full of it too, who has plants?”
“Midoriya was the last one in the kitchen grabbing snacks to prepare for his heat”
The class all looked at each other, they didn't seem too thrilled
Again, there was a sense of wrongness, their inner alpha/omega/betas were going stressed as something was happening with their friend
Todoroki could only stare at the small petal in his hand

“I have hanahaki disease, Mom” izuku said with a hoarse voice. He brought in snacks but he was not hungry, another sign of the disease spreading to every part of his body
He should be panicking, running around screaming for answers and for help but he was so /weak/
And he didn't want to hold Kachan back by forcing him to accept his feelings
The omega is smart, he’d figure something out! Except, he forgot his mother is exactly the opposite of izuku and she was worried 10 folds
She paced around the room, took 4 pills, washed her face, cried for 40 minutes, and cursed the gods
She /cursed/ that's all izuku needs to know
“I can fix it, we can fix it,” she said, rambling on about this
“You...you won't force me to talk things with kacchan?” he whispered, hidden deep within his nest
“I-I’ve been in the medical field for years, I've seen all cases of the disease...If he were to reject you izuku–” She sobbed
“You wouldnt make it at all” is all she said, is all she was willing to say anyways and izuku didn't want to hurt his mother anymore
“How can you help me?” he whispered as he coughed into a bin, his head was pounding
“There's a quirk...you will forget everything about Katsuki” she said and izuku's eyes widened
Ev..everything?! The memories, the bonding, the times they played in the parks or hunted for bugs, their sleepovers and promises
The memories of them promising to always be together–
More coughing, more pain in his chest, more wishing he was dead
“Im not asking you baby, you have to” she said
“I dont want to lose you, im booking an appointment for a quirk specialist and taking you with me” Her tone changed, the medical side of her kicking in
“..okay ma” he whispered
“This is for your own good, that boy lost something amazing” she said and izuku snorted, chocked on a petal
“Im not that amazing if he chose her–”
“You are still great, you are a great friend with todoroki and a good companion and my amazing child, focus on rest baby, im going to save you”
She hung up and izuku hid his face in the covers
He will forget about kacchan
He was scared–he saw nothing but a future with him
His omega saw a capable mate, a kind one with an energetic heart
But he will try to move on
He doesn't want to die and once he forgets about the blond he won't bother him anyways
The petals that were once bright green and small grew in size and number until they would inevitably turn brown and decay in a few days, the last phase of the disease
