Chapter Text
as small rays of sunshine peeked through the curtains, kaveh stirred from his slumber. yawning, he rolled over and planted his face into the pillow. kaveh felt the weight next to him shift along with a sigh.
"come on, kaveh, you need to get up."
"alhaitham…" kaveh whined, "it's too early…"
there was a second of silence as kaveh imagined alhaitham rolling his eyes.
"fine, but you better be up by the time i finish making breakfast… i don't want to eat alone."
"mhm… alright."
kaveh could smell the sumeru roses in the box garden as alhaitham pushed open the window before the gentle smell of lavender detergent as he changed. kaveh could hear the bathroom door squeaking open and quiet running water as alhaitham washed up. kaveh could feel alhaitham ruffling his hair before walking down the stairs.
the birds that morning were distant, and their chirping provided a convenient lullaby for kaveh to fall back into dreamless sleep. when he woke again, the delicious aroma of alhaitham’s cooking was already wafting up into the bedroom.
“kaveh?” alhaitham’s voice rang from downstairs. “i've finished cooking, so you better be up!”
“i’m up,” kaveh whined loudly before yawning. “give me a second.”
kaveh stretched as he sat up in bed and yawned again.
he opened his eyes as he heard the bedroom door being pushed open.
his arms dropped onto the bed.
the room was cold and empty. all the doors were closed. the cloudy day left the room bathed in darkness. even the sumeru roses in the box garden had all wilted.
“alhaitham?”
the room was silent.
