Sniff.

“You know-” She was wrapped up in nearly half-a-dozen blankets, a moat of pillows around her on the couch. “I can handle myself. What’s one cold gonna do to Sonic the Hedgehog?”

“Do you remember the last time you actually got sick?” They snarked from the nearby kitchen. Shadow was prepping a bowl of soup as quickly and efficiently as possible. There’s a reason she’s the one who does the cooking around here.

“... Hm.” Another sniff. “I guess not. Running everywhere probably beefed up my immune system. Must’ve caught something on the Starfall Islands that did me in.”

“Which is why I’m staying home today.” In a matter of seconds, the soup was heated up and ready for serving. She brought it over to the table and slid over the remote. “I’ve saved up enough vacation hours that I can afford to miss a day of work.” Sitting by her side, she brushed a loose quill from the blue hedgehog’s face.

“Aren’t you worried about catching something too?”

“I’m the Ultimate Lifeform.” Taking a mug of coffee from the side table. “I was quite literally designed to combat any and all illness.” Siiiiip.

“So what’s stopping you from curing me right now?” Brow raised.

“I was designed to combat illness, but development shifted before they implemented any real curative abilities.” That’s what happens when you’re hijacked by the government to be the ultimate weapon. She leans over, and plants a kiss on her girlfriend’s head. “But, I can still do this without risk.”

“Someone’s gone soft. If I did that to you a couple years back, you woulda kicked me in the head.”

“I would have.” She hands her a box of tissues. “Now wipe your nose. It’s runny.”

“And you still kissed me? Gross!” A playful shove. They took up the rest of the day on the couch, Shadow catering to most of Sonic’s needs as she saw fit. Sonic conked out on her lap part way through the day, leaving Shadow immobilized for a bit.

The rest of the night was spent running her fingers through her cobalt quills, basking in the stillness.

It paid to take it slow now and again.

Notes:

Excuse me for the extended absence from this site due to AO3 being a hellhole but you'll probably be seeing a handful of more one-shots from this AU. It's super self-indulgent and I like seeing these two together.

Also, for those wondering about Daytrip to Wuhu, I'll finish it one day. Probably.
