Work Text:

It was a stormy night at Nevermore this time around, which was a first in Chris’s time at the school.  But that was the least of his worries right now.  It was 2 AM, yet the mind-reader was wide-awake.  Chris had pretty much tried everything to fall asleep.  Shutting his eyes tightly, simply laying down, clearing his head of any and all thoughts…that was it.

He couldn’t clear the thought of one person.  No matter what he tried, the thought of a particular classmate at Nevermore stayed in his head.

That particular person was Wednesday Addams.

Christopher Callum could admit that she was pretty, and that he admired her personality.  But following a late-night conversation with her, he felt like he’d truly understood that his feelings were romantic.  For quite a while, Chris had tried to suppress those feelings.  But he simply couldn't.  He had known what he wanted in life.  He wanted to live a mostly solitary life and go wherever he wanted and do what he wanted.  He used to think that falling for anyone would ruin that.  But now, he wasn’t so sure.

As Chris heard a crash of lightning, another noise finally broke his train of thought.  That was a knock on the door.  Chris couldn’t help but groan.  Who needed to enter his dorm, and why was it so important to do it at 2 in the morning?

Chris walked over to the door as he threw it open with an annoyed expression, “Hate to break it to you, but it’s way too-”

Chris froze, as the person standing outside the door happened to be none other than Wednesday, with her usual unimpressed expression.

“Oh, uh…Wednesday.  Hi,” Chris said, as his face turned red with embarrassment.

As he hesitated, Wednesday pushed past him into his dorm.  “Um, okay.  Come in, I guess,” Chris said.

This was definitely a case of somehow perfect, yet eerie timing.  Chris had been thinking about Wednesday, and all of a sudden she showed up.  It could’ve been otherworldly forces, or maybe it was just fate.  Either way, Chris definitely thought this was his doing somehow.

Once Wednesday was already a fair amount of distance into Chris’s room, she turned back and said to the mind-reader, “I had a vision.”

Chris had heard about the visions when Wednesday told him about what had transpired at Nevermore the previous semester, he did find it odd that she came to him after having one.

“So, what was it about?” Chris asked.

“It was about you,” Wednesday quicky replied.

Chris felt himself turning red again as he deadpanned, “Of me? That’s a shock.  You’re sure it was me?”

“That’s what I just said, keep up,” Wednesday deadpanned back.  She then took out a pen and said, “I believe this pen belongs to you, by the way.”

She tossed the pen to Chris as he realized this was the pen he had misplaced hours ago.  But this wasn’t what the vision was…was it?

Wednesday continued, “I was originally planning to give it back to you when I had realized you had left it there.  But I had ran out of time to, and I was going to return it earlier, but I couldn't find it.  Thing noticed the pen on the floor of me and Enid’s room, and when I woke up and decided to return the pen I had the vision.  You were looking for it in your dorm and outside as well.”

Chris couldn’t help but be utterly confused.  And then felt a wave of nauseousness, and then excitement.  Sure, she had done this all for a pen.  But it was for his pen.  All Chris could really say was, “W-w-wait, let me get this straight.  You were going to return my pen to me earlier, but you didn’t.  And then you could’ve easily put it off until morning when you remembered, but you came here in the middle of the night to give me the pen….why?”

Chris and Wednesday’s eyes met as they stared each other down a little too intensely, as Chris noticed that she had moved closer, and her expression had shifted ever-so slightly.  The mind-reader also noticed that Wednesday’s hands had twirled behind her back…nervously?  Suddenly, for the first time…Chris was able to read Wednesday Addams clearly.

Before Chris could say anything, Wednesday spoke up.  “There’s something about you.  For some unknown, inexplainable reason I’ve been unable to stop thinking about you.  There’s nothing that’s forcing me to think about you either.”

While Wednesday had said that in the same tone she always had said most things, but this was so much more than that.  Everything was clear to Chris now.  It was so much more, and Chris had been able to read that.

“I’ve tried to think of other things,” Wednesday continued. "Torture, execution, building of sharp objects, unsolved murders, anything that I usually have thoughts about quite often.  But my mind keeps wandering to the thought of you.”

Chris nodded, as Wednesday came closer.  “Wednesday…I’m surprised you haven’t said how much you wish it wasn’t what it is,” he managed to say as his throat tightened and he let out a dry laugh.

“Obviously, I am making a mistake.  It doesn’t help that you feel the same way about me.  But I’ll admit, I do seem to have romantic feelings for you.  When it comes to someone like you, I haven’t found a true reason to torture you yet,” Wednesday said, as Chris could’ve sworn a hint of a smile had twisted on her expression.

Chris couldn’t help but grin as he said, “Well, I’ll admit that I’ve been avoiding my own feelings for you too.”

The two of them were closer than ever to each other, even though they didn’t realize that they moved closer as if it was instinct.

“Well, are you going to kiss me?” Wednesday asked bluntly.

“Is that what you want?” Chris quipped back, even though he wasn’t very subtle about his wants as his hand found the side of her face as he asked.

Wednesday simply nodded in approval at this as the two leaned forward as their eyes closed and their lips met in a kiss.  Chris couldn’t help but be lost in the wonder and immense satisfaction of the fact that the two felt the same way about each other.  The two then pulled away, even though Chris’s hand was still on the side of Wednesday’s face as he absentmindedly brushed her bangs away from her eyes.

“Is there anything else you wanted?” Chris asked as his cheeks felt hotter than ever before.

“Your pen has been returned,” Wednesday responded, “So I believe we’re done here…for now.”

Notes:

Well, I'm definitely putting this series on hiatus for now. It's been fun, but it has been really an experimental testing ground for this OC to have a bigger and better story in the coming months. Stay tuned for more info, and I hoped you liked this!
