Work Text:

Month Three

Dong-eun really hopes that these symptoms relieve soon because she was getting sick and tired of the constant nausea hitting out of nowhere. She’s currently ten weeks pregnant now and just had a check-up with her doctor a couple days ago. The fetus was starting to take shape as a baby and began to build a little bump in Dong-eun’s belly. It still was barely notable, but Yeo-jeong loves to make a big deal out of it.

Dong-eun still goes through her day like it’s totally normal, where she’ll sit in her office and talk with future silence on future projects they’ll carry out. During her breaks, she made sure to eat what Yeo-Jeong packed her the previous night and inform him of how much was left. Having a doctor for a husband was really helpful, especially for a workaholic wife like herself who also has years of bad eating habits.

Dong-eun enjoys her job for the most part, but of course, there’s a little part of her that hates the people that come to her for help. They can have a nasty attitude or be straight up creeps and freaks. That can ruin her day sometimes and if she’s already in a bad mood, then it just makes it worse.

Today was one of those days where she just really wanted to destroy the world and eat it later. She parks her car in front of a little cafe that Yeo-Jeong told her to meet him at and makes her way in. The night breeze was pleasant but also chilly to her skin. She takes deep breaths in and walks inside the small building, the smell of coffee and freshly baked pies filling the place.

“Hi, welcome in.” the cashier greets. Dong-eun nods and looks around one time to see if Yeo-Jeong was here. Not being able to spot him, she pulls out her phone and pulls up his contact.

To: Yeo-Jeong 🖤

Where are you?

She sends, moving over to a small round table while she waits. Her phone chimes quickly afterwards and it read

From: Yeo-Jeong 🖤

Work went a little bit longer, pulling in now.

Dong-eun sighs and just patiently waits for him to arrive. She rests her hands in her lap and stares off into space as she lets her mind just wander off. She didn’t want to admit it outloud, but she was getting more hungry by the moment. It made it harder for her to wait and the smell was not helping at all either. She turns to the door and waits patiently for Yeo-Jeong to arrive. He wouldn’t mind her getting something to eat before supper right? She was sure that they only met here to have a small tea and coffee date. Sadly, she couldn’t wait.

Another minute has passed by and Yeo-Jeong comes in calmly, earning the same greeting like she did. Dong-eun stands up to her feet so he could spot her easier and he walks right over. She was able to smile a little bit, letting Yeo-Jeong pull her in a side hug “Sorry, my last procedure had gone on longer from complications.” He kisses her forehead gently “Have you been waiting too long?”

“No, I just walked in.” her smile disappears as she asks him“I’m actually pretty starving so would it be bad if I just have something extra?”

Yeo-Jeong shakes his head and rubs her back “Of course not. You’re carrying our baby, so I’ll be concerned if you were eating how you normally would.” he tells her “What are you craving?”

Dong-eun looks at him before walking over to the display case of the cafe to pick out what she wanted. He follows right behind her with a smile on his face, watching her look at her options. He kept his patience with her over the last couple weeks. He made sure she had enough food to hold her over and something extra just in case, and as he thought, she devoured them all. Well, only so much until they come back out.

Her constant mornings of being at the toilet or sink in the house broke the man’s heart. He doesn’t want to see her this way, and he knows that it’ll be a long road for them both. Some day the second trimester is better than the first, but depending on the woman, it could be worse than the first. He promised to her, himself, his mother, and his late father that he’ll be a devoted husband and father to Dong-eun and the unborn child. He plans to keep it even after he dies.

“Yeo-Jeong? Are you listening?” Dong-eun calls him back to earth, waving her hand in his face. He blinks with a little jump, looking down at his wife

“S-Sorry, I wasn’t listening. What did you want?”

Dong-eun sighs and shakes her head, changing her mind. “Nothing, I know your order. Just go sit and rest your feet.” She sighs, walking up to the cashier to order. Yeo-Jeong blinks for a second and runs over to her slightly confused “W-W-Wait…let me order it. You should be the one—” she interrupts him, making a face that shows she’s clearly upset.

“Yeo-Jeong, just go sit down. Please.” She snaps at him. Yeo-Jeong takes a step back, staring at the dark haired woman. Instead of fighting her on it, he just obeys her command “Okay, but I’m paying for it next time.” He still smiles at her and makes his way over to the table.

Dong-eun didn’t watch him walk back, but she made a note to apologize later for the snap. She goes back to the cashier and tells her order swiftly before she makes way back to Yeo-Jeong. He was sitting patiently, tapping his fingers on the table.

“What did you order?” He asks her. Sometimes she wonders how he was ever able to keep his patience with her cold heart. Even if he does push her buttons sometimes, he always comes back to her with caution until he’s sure that she’s okay.

“Sweet Potato pie and some Ginger tea. I got your usual coffee.” She sits down across from him, rubbing her arm where a burn scar lay.

“You’re amazing, thank you.” He compliments, opening his hand on the table. Dong-eun knew this move and put her hand in his, watching him kiss the back of her hand so softly.

Her belly flutters each time he does that and sends her brain into a shutdown sometimes. It wasn’t because she didn’t like it, but years later after meeting each other, he still approached her with love so gentle and sweet that it leaves her mind going blank.

Her body knows his touch and how much pressure he applies where, but every now and then, a flashback of a fist hitting in her chest or stomach comes in. The mark they left on her was something hard to get rid of.

No matter how many times he touches or kisses her.

Dong-eun pulls her hand back to her lap, watching the smile on Yeo-Jeong's face disappear. He knew this move too well, so he didn't question it. Soon their drinks and food arrived and Dong-eun dug in. Yeo-Jeong grabs her cup to check the temperature and see if it is too warm. Thankfully it wasn’t and Dong-eun carefully snatches her drink back.

“I know you’re worried about me, but please just stop it. I’m pregnant, not a child, okay?” She scolds him, taking another bite of her pie.

Yeo-Jeong’s heart sinks and he says “I didn’t mean to make you feel that way. I just don't—”

“I’ll be okay.” She dismissed “Let’s just finish up here.” Yeo-Jeong didn’t like that idea and normally, he would listen to her, but Dong-eun still underestimates how much of a toll her body took and how affected she is from her trauma.

“I’m sorry for being worried about you because you’re clearly not giving a damn.” He huffs. She looks up at him and drops her fork down.

“I do give a damn, but we both know just how overprotective you are of me. I get why, but it goes too far sometimes.” She confesses.

“How? Let’s consider the facts here, okay?” He leans in and whispers “You’re pregnant, anemic, and have an unhealthy eating habit that’s basically an eating disorder now.”

He reaches to grab her hand, but she pulls it backwards. He huffs “Dong-eun, stop being stubborn, this is your health for goodness sake. You’re looking out for almost two people now—”

“You don’t think I’m not aware of that right now? Did you even hear what I just said??” She interrupts. She scoffs “For god sakes, I’m not a child you need to protect and constantly keep an eye on.”

Yeo-Jeong frowns “That’s not what I said at all. What I am saying is that I want you to be healthy enough so you can deliver without any complications. Plus, I want you to remain the healthy girl you’ve been getting.” He looks at his coffee cup and then back at her “Let’s go back home. We can continue to talk there.”

He left no more room for discussion and stood up from his seat. He grabs her ringed hand carefully, but holds it tight enough where she can't pull away. Dong-run found that out the hard way he wasn’t going to leave without her, so she made a small ugly face before getting up too. The couple walks out hand in hand, though with a frowning Dong-eun.

He walks her to his car before going into his own and they drive behind each other back home.

When they arrive, Yeo-Jeong punches in the code to his house, following a different pincode.

one-six-one-zero, the date of their marriage anniversary.

It was something simple with minimum guests. While Dong-eun didn’t have many guests to invite, Yeo-Jeong had a few people besides his mother. That day was when Dong-eun felt the happiest. Not seeing her enemies going down one-by-one, but walking down the aisle with her missing one percent.

She didn’t think that could have possibly overtaken her happiness getting her revenge completed.

And now she’s expecting a child with him. On her drive back, once she was away from him, she was able to clearly think.

“…What I am saying is that I want you to be healthy enough so you can deliver without any complications. Plus, I want you to remain the healthy girl you’ve been getting…”

Dong-eun will admit she was being rude.

Yeo-Jeong’s always gentle, caring and honest with her. Sometimes, she doesn’t factor in her own traumas and lack of self care unless he’s there to remind and help. He always pulls her away from any hot meats unless she says different. Her need for independence was overriding her sense of self-awareness. Was she overstimulated from the amount of love he gave her?

She thought about this as they walked through the front door, taking off their coats. He guides them over to the living room with a hand on her back. She held her work bag on her shoulder, letting her heels and his dress shoes click and clack until they took a seat down.

He was good at never forgetting, especially things so small.

He sighs and removes his hand “Dong-eun, I didn’t mean to make you feel like I’m putting you down. That’s the LAST thing I ever want to do…” he cups her face gently, “I try so hard to be very careful with you because I’m scared one trigger will drive you away…I’m scared of triggering an unexpected and unwanted panic attack.”

Dong-eun wraps her hands on his wrist, pulling his hands down to grab them in her lap. “No, there’s no reason for you to apologize to me. Not this time at least.” She sighs “All you have been doing is…trying to heal me. I’ve been a little snappy lately. The reason for it is not just because of the pregnancy.”

Dong-eun frowns and follows up saying "I'm just not used to this…love, kindness, and happiness never lasted so long with me. I was sure, that this feel would leave. I thought I would only live in this dream for a couple months, years even that I prepared myself for the day you'll leave me–"

Yeo-Jeong stops her "Woah hold up for a second. You thought…that I would leave you?" She defended herself. "Nothing is or was ever permanent in my life. They all have done the same. They come into my life and leave.

Silence sits in the room as Yeo-Jeong takes in what he was told. Maybe it was out of pure instinct, but the man wraps his arms around her. Rubbing her back, Yeo-Jeong reassures her "That'll be the last thing I'll ever do to you." He says

"If anything I should be scared of you leaving me again.” He jokes, giving a small chuckle. Dong-eun chuckles with him, and suddenly leans into his shoulder. He wraps his arms around her waist loosely “You see this ring in your finger?” He asks, pulling her left hand up so she could see their ring with him.

Yeo-Jeong had it made custom for her for a decent price. They both weren’t big of those things so she got a Princess Cut with one stone. A bluish-green as a sign of harmony and peace.

Dong-eun nods at Yeo-Jeong’s question to see what he says. “This is proof of our forever to another. This proves that we’re each other’s life’s partners.” He smiles, looking at her eyes. “I will never leave you unless I’m ripped away from life. I will be your devoted and loving husband for many decades at a time. No matter how much we fight, argue, or scream at each other. I love you Dong-eun, so much…”

The woman let him drop her hand gently and hold her in his arms, rubbing her arm with his eyes closed. The feeling came back to her, but harder than before. The overwhelming feeling of love and attention he’s giving her made the woman emotional all over. Maybe it was because of her hormone increase, but she began to cry. Her tears flow down like a waterfall when it first starts; heavy and uncontrollable.

Yeo-Jeong doesn’t realize until he hears her sniffling and watches her wipe her face. He looks down curiously and asks “Are you okay? Did I hurt your feelings again?”

Dong-eun wraps her arms around him lightly and sobs “I’m sorry…” without being able to say anything else. The doctor shakes his head “Don’t apologize, maybe you were feeling too overwhelmed with everything today?”

She nods her head, holding him tighter and let herself crumble to sob fully in his arms. Her grip on his clothes tightens and he allows her to wet his shirt.

“Are you still happy? Is this still your future…?” He questions. As long as she was happy at the end of the day, he was okay.

“Yeah…” she mumbles, still unable to form more words. Yeo-Jeong turns her a little bit more and properly rubs her back while she just cries on him.

“Good, because I still plan to be your forever…I love you…” he whispers.

Even after years of being comfortable with another, Dong-eun rarely ever shows herself at a vulnerable rate and it bothers him. Yeo-Jeong only really saw her cry once and that’s when he proposed to her. Now, it was twice with how she clings onto him, less tears pouring out now.

He spends the night holding her, even after she stops crying on him. He only got up to pick up the food he ordered for them and to move them over to the bedroom once they finished eating.

Dong-eun changes into his big long sleeve shirt and some shorts while Yeo-Jeong changes into a simple shirt and shirts. They climb into bed with Dong-eun falling asleep first after being covered by warm blankets and an even warmer back hug from her husband.

“The journey seems long, but I wouldn’t want to share it with anybody else.” He whispers to her sleeping body that night. She doesn’t know what fate seems to have planned for her, he’ll walk hand in hand with to the end.

After all, a knight needs to protect his queen at all times.
