This story will take place after chapter 12 of One Small Dream by Calcium_Cat
A mixture of sirens and screams could be heard for at least a mile. It was hard for all the victims to even tell who they were being attacked by. The moment you tried to look at them would probably be your last. This caused the few people who were still alive to avoid all eye contact. They all stayed still and didn't dare to move a muscle. They would hear the one behind it all and tried their best to ignore it. They didn't want to end up like all the other lifeless bodies that were scattered across the city.
The victims prayed that some sort of help would soon arrive. Where were the police? Shouldn't they be the first ones to arrive at a murder scene? Or did the universe simply not want to help all the desperate people?
“...p-please stop. Please d-don’t hurt her.” A woman pleaded.
The attacker stopped what they were doing and looked at the woman. She was hunched over so it was impossible to make out any major details. She seemed to have been hit by a few attacks due to how raggedy her clothes seemed to be. Her voice was high pitched and wobbly, she was clearly crying.
“Pardon?” The attacker asked while walking a bit closer to the woman.
“I’m begging you please don’t hurt her.” The woman spoke again.
“...what do you mean? Tell me why I shouldn't kill you right now.” Their voice sounded bored and impatient.
“I have a daughter, please don’t hurt her. As long as she’s safe, I don’t care what happens to me.”
The attacker could see that the woman was hugging a young girl. She was just trying to protect her daughter more than anything else. That kind of devotion is quite admirable.
There were a few moments of silence from all three of them. The mother had hoped the silence menat the murderer was having a change of heart. That her and her daughter were going to be spared.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
Instead, a large swarm of white feathers launched towards the mother. She screamed in pain as they made contact with her skin. They made her body and soul experience immense amounts of pain, it felt as if her soul was spitting apart. The attacker smiled to herself as the woman's grip on her child grew weak.
The woman's daughter stared at the attacker in disbelief. How was she okay with hurting her so easily? Was she too soulless to realize how horrible her actions were? Was she going to kill her as well?
The question haunted the young girl as she watched the woman. The two made eye contact for a moment. The young girl's eyes were filled with tears and sorrow. While the woman had a large smile on her face, she looked delighted at what she had just done. After only a few seconds the woman lost the staring contest the two seemed to be having, before starting to walk away. She left the little girl alone with nothing but the cold body of her now dead mother.

The girl who was responsible for all the destruction around her seemed to be mostly unfazed by most of it. More than anything, she was delighted at what she had done. She had never liked the world she lived in anyway. All of it brought her awful memories that her mind wouldn't let her forget no matter how hard she tried. So being able to see it all turn into nothing but chaos was a sort of dream come true for her.
While she had only started a small fraction of everything, it seemed that her actions caused a chain reaction. She didn't know who they were, but a group of people seemed to be terrorizing the city now. The screams of pain of their victims echoed throughout the half destroyed city. Just imagining all those people being mercilessly slaughtered caused a slight shiver to flow through her entire body.
The girl stopped her stroll through the empty streets and spread out the pair of black feathered wings on her back. She then launched herself into the air and to the top of a nearby building. From there she was able to get a good look at the city. The unknown group of people seemed to have caused a few fires and even a few buildings to collapse. It was actually quite impressive how much destruction was caused.
She continued to look around a bit until she was able to stop the supposed group of people. They were launching attacks left and right at anyone around them. It was hard to see what they looked like though due to the distance the girl was from them. The group piqued her interest but she knew better than to go and try and get a better look at them. She’d probably end up being impaled by whatever they were throwing around.
While the thought of death was quite intriguing, she’d prefer to at least watch the group from a reasonable distance for now. At one point, one of them seemed to be able to summon a large skull of sorts. It opened its mouth before firing out a bright laser at a person that was trying to run away. Watching the group murder so many people was unbelievably entertaining to the girl.
She sat down on the ledge of the building and continued to watch. Her feet dangled off the sides of the building as the smile on her face only seemed to grow more and more. She had the same amount of excitement of a child getting a brand new toy after begging their parents to buy it for them. Though obviously her excitement was about anything close to that, it was all about being able to see the group of people demolish the world around them.
It was a bit hard to see, but there seemed to be about 5 people in the group. Though due to how fast all of them were moving, it was quite difficult to keep track of even just one of them at a time. After a while the girl unfortunately started to become a bit bored. It made her start to wonder what to do next. It's not like she could continue living here, everyone knew what she looked like so she’d probably be arrested soon. Though that would take awhile due to the police force being out of the question for at least a few days. She had made sure to get rid of most if not all of them before she started her mudder spree. While she wasn’t always the highest in her classes when she was young, she was by no means stupid. She had been planning how everything would have gone for about a month. Though it seems that she didn't plan for every possible scenario. She honestly hadn't expected to make it this far anyway so she hadn't made plans for what to do afterwards.
Her curiosity got the better of her and she decided to try and get a better look at the group. She flew a few buildings closer but tried her best to maintain her distance. Due to her wings making her quite noticeable the group was going to detect her sooner or later. She chose to keep a steady pace as she got closer to them as to hopefully not seem as a threat. Eventually she decided that she was able to see them quite well and sat down on the ledge of the building she was now on. She was able to get a much better look at all of them and what exactly they had been attacking people with.
From the skull that she had remembered one of them summoning, it wasn't the biggest surprise that they were all skeletons. They had been summoning bones to use as a weapon and it was quite effective. They all seemed quite different and unique from each other but all looked the same in a weird way. It was hard to explain but they all seemed to just be modified from an original version of them. That would actually make sense though. They were all probably from different AU’s and decided to team up together. That explanation seemed to make the most sense to the girl anyway.
For a moment she could have sworn she made eye contact with one of the skeletons. From what she could tell it seemed to be the leader of the group. They were enveloped in a dark tar-like substance that covered their entire body. With what seemed to be 4 large tentacles coming out of their back, the skeleton certainly looked…intriguing.
The two seemed to stare at each other for a few moments before the girl looked away. She had never been good at maintaining eye contact anyway. After a few seconds the girl looked back at the skeleton and saw that they had still been staring at her. It confused her a bit but she quickly forgot about it as the skeletons seemed to have opened what looked like a portal. As soon as that happened she heard something behind her.
She turned around and saw that the skeleton had opened the portal to lead to the top of the building she was on. She watched as the skeleton came through the portal and the two seemed to continue their staring contest. There were a few moments of silence between the two. The skeleton used the time to finally get a better look at the person who had been watching his group for the past 15 minutes.
She wore a dark gray sweater, black sweatpants, and gray sneakers. She also had a pair of black wings attached to her back that were slightly covered by her black shoulder length hair. It was a bit surprising to him at how happy she was considering the current condition the AU was in.
The girl looked away and back at the skeletons who seemed to be trying to cause another building to collapse. The skeleton kept his gaze on her before sitting down a few feet away from her. The two stared off into the distance for a few moments.
“…thanks.” The girl said.
“Thanks for what?” His voice was bold yet she could sense some form of kindness in it.
“You’re the leader of the group over there, right?” She pointed at the skeletons who seemed to now be arguing about something.
“…yes, yes I am. But what does that have to do with anything?”
“Well, this AU kinda sucks to be honest. All I had done was go on a small murder spree. I only planned on killing a handful of people but your group is really destroying the place. It’s quite impressive actually. So thanks for that.”
“Oh, so you’re the one who started all of this? We only came here due to all the negativity that was here. It’s very rare for me to meet a person who can cause enough negativity by themselves to draw my attention. Or do you have someone else who’s helping you?”
“Nope. Just me.” She said with a bright smile.
“Interesting…what’s your name if I may ask?”
“…Moon, what about you?” She seemed a bit hesitant, was she perhaps lying?
“Nightmare, guardian of negativity, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He responded rather formally.
“Nice to meet you, Nightmare.”
“…Moon, how would you feel about joining me?”
“I suppose it depends on what joining you exactly means. Also what’s in it for me?”
“Well you see, I have a sort of gang of people from around the multiverse. I have a special AU that we all stay in and your job is to help cause havoc in AU’s I tell you to. It’s really quite simple. You’ll be given a room you can customize to your heart's desire, you’ll be given at least 2 meals a day, and you’ll be able to train with other people so you’ll get stronger. In my opinion I’m giving you an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity.” He decided to leave out the fact she’d have to pledge her undying loyalty to him, that could be discussed at a later time.
One part of Moon knew that he was hiding something. But she also knew that without Nightmares help she’d be stuck in an AU where she would be a wanted villain. There really wasn’t an option for her to say no to him.
“…Alright, sure. I’ll join your gang. It’s now like I really have anything else better to do anyway.” She nonchalantly told him.
Nightmare's smile grew a bit and he stood up before offering a hand to Moon.
“So it’s a deal?” He asked.
“Ya,” Her hand met his to pull herself up. “It's a deal.”
With that Nightmare summoned another portal and signaled for Moon to go through it. With a little too much trust in him, she gladly entered through the portal. She was then met with the sight of the other skeletons who looked at her in confusion. There was one who seemed to have a dark liquid coming out of their eyes and a bright red target in front of their chest. The said skeleton proceeded to immediately pull out a knife and threw it directly at her face.
Moon quickly dogged the knife by moving a few feet to her right. The knife was then caught by one of Nightmare's tentacles before he threw it back at the skeleton it belonged to. They looked a bit annoyed at the fact it didn’t hit Moon but quickly shoved the object back into their pocket. They mumbled something under their breath but it was too quiet for any of them to properly understand.
“Are you alright?” Nightmare asked.
“Uh ya, don’t worry I’m fine.” Moon quickly replied.
“What’s with the human?” The monochrome skeleton asked.
“Everyone, this is Moon. She’ll be staying with us for the next few weeks, and if all goes well, she’ll become a permanent member of the gang.” Nightmare explained.
The group of skeletons all looked at him in disbelief and confusion. There was a moment where they all just waited for him to reveal that what he said was just a joke.
But the moment never came.
“I’ll explain more once we get back to the castle.” Nightmare added before opening another portal.
All of the skeleton’s were quick to make their way out of the AU. They had caused enough chaos and knew that it’d probably be erased sooner or later. Moon was the second to last to go through the portal and was followed by Nightmare before everyone was at the castle.
They were all in front of a room that Moon assumed to be important due to all the details that were engraved into the door. It was handmade, just thinking about how much time and effort to make the two doors made her mentally cringe. It saddened her a bit to know that most people wouldn’t even take a second glance.
“Moon, please wait out here for a bit. All of us need to have a quick discussion. I promise it won’t be long.” Nightmare explained.
The girl nodded and leaned against the wall. The group made their way into the room before starting to discuss Nightmares idea.
“Nightmare, you can’t be serious about letting a human into the group! And we all already have to deal with Dream 24/7 so I don’t know why you want another person who’s just going to be a nuisance!” Killer argued once the door was closed.
“Listen, I know that this is very sudden. I don't blame anyone for you if you think this is a bad idea. While I hate to admit it, even I’m a bit worried about lettering them just stay here for a while. They could be pretty beneficial to the team you know.” Nightmare reasoned.
“Why do you think they’ll be a good fit?” Dust asked.
“All the negativity in the AU we were just in was caused by them alone. You all know it would take at least 2 of you to create enough negativity to draw my attention. And Moon managed to do that completely by herself. Even if she isn’t the best at fighting, she might be a really good help for just spreading negativity around the multiverse. Though I’m pretty sure she’s a good fighter with how the AU was when we got there.” Nightmare said.
The group looked at him in uncertainty. He knew that they’d be against the idea, after all, all of them had been hurt by humans a lot in their life before he found them. He understood why they would be so hesitant about the idea. That’s the main reason why he didn’t introduce Moon as already being a part of the group. If she had a few weeks to get settled in, then hopefully by then everyone would come around and maybe start to talk to her.
“Look, just give it a try. If you all still hate her after a few weeks, you’ll never have to see her again. I promise.” Nightmare told them, his voice sounded soft.
Surprisingly, Horror seemed to be the most skeptical.
“...that means more mouths to feed…more supply runs too.” He mumbled.
“It would also mean you get missions done faster, have more time to relax, and slightly fewer chores that have to be completed.” Nightmare stated.
Killer, Dust, and Cross seemed to like what Nightmare said.
“I mean…I guess we could give it a try, for a few weeks at least.” Killer said, his smile now wider.
Nightmare looked to the others who all seemed to be a little more open to the idea, but not by much. Nightmare smiled before going to open the doors to his office to reveal Moon who had been running her fingers through the patterns engraved onto the door.
“Good news Moon, you’ll be staying here for the next three weeks.” He told her with a surprisingly gentle smile.
“Oh, cool.” She said while shrugging and putting her hands into her pockets.
She had actually assumed that they would all oppose Nightmare's idea so she didn't really expect for her to be welcome into the team. Well, kinda. She’d have to wait 3 weeks until she could fully know if she’d be a part of the team.
Even though she knew she was going to be staying in a castle with a bunch of murders, for some reason she felt that it’d be safer than she had been her entire life with
her father
Anderson Thistle.
That alone managed to make her smile.
