Chapter 1 - The Gamer System

It was a beautiful day. The summer sun of early March isn’t too hot or cold, perfect for an outdoor picnic. The weather newscast also said the same thing so majority of the people went somewhere to enjoy the day.

If other people were enjoying the day, it was the exact opposite upon one Harriet Potter, the unwelcome, freakish niece of Petunia Dursley née Evans and her husband Vernon Dursley. The seven year old girl with messy black hair, deep green eyes wearing her cousin Dudley’s cast offs is currently struggling in preparation of todays lunch. Standing above a chair, Harriet carefully flipped the grilled patty but ended up burning it.

As always, Petty Petunia used the opportunity to, ahem, educate her Freakish niece. And since the Freak burned the patty, ergo, she was wasting food her precious Diddydums should have enjoyed.

“… You utter useless FREAK!” The blonde woman who resembled a giraffe with her long neck and thin *cough* petite figure shrieked upon the little girl. “You wasted Dudley’s food! Useless thing!” Lines of insults, pinches and slapping rained upon Harriet.

The poor girl could only swallow her cries of pain, silently crying in bitterness. However, Petunia isn’t contented, she turned off the stove, turned around and pulled out the largest and heaviest frying pan in her kitchen.

Horror filled the girl’s heart. As it was, she immediately ran away from her enrage and clearly insane Aunt.

“FREAK!”

Dear Heavens, what the hell?! Harriet forced herself to ran away, ducking in time as the frying pan flew over her head.

The said item hit the wall… creating a rather deep dent.

No! She’s going to kill me! Realization filled her being as she jumped out of the hedge.

[Warning! Warning! Warning!]

I know that! She screamed inwardly, cursing the fact she can’t speak. Harriet does not know why, but it is clear that her Aunt was planning —No, is clearly hellbent in making her die today.

Dashing out of the house, she ignored her wounds — both old and new— her eyes suddenly widen when a ripple appeared in front of her—

— and zapped her when she tried to ran through it.

[Blood Bird Cage System, Level 89.

Status; Corrupted

No one can leave unless you die…]

I’ll die either way! Choke screams tried to escape her lips as she tried and failed to pass through. Her hands were burnt, as she glance upon a random cat.

Which passed through safely.

Why? What’s happening? Harriet looked back—

And last thing she saw is her derange looking out as Petunia slam the pan on her cheek with all her might.

**

“Miss Nia? Miss Nia? Time to wake up.”

Harriet frowned. Opening her eyes, she was startled to find herself at the abandoned playground where even Dudley won’t step in. Carefully sitting up, she wince a bit as she pulled her injured left arm.

“Miss Nia, take this potion to remove the pain.” A clear white vial appeared in her hands—

Hands that isn’t burnt.

Who? She looked around, finding herself alone in the playground.

“Drink the pain potion first, silly.” Harriet could hear the helplessness and doting? On his tone.

Yes, him.

Sighing, she took off the cap with her teeth then drank the said potion straight. Relief ran through her being as the pain she had been feeling slowly lighten until she can’t feel any pain at all.

A holographic screen appeared in front of her. It showed a face of a young boy … which is her male version just with spiky blood red hair.

“Miss Nia…”

What is this? Who are you? How could I communicate with you? Questions filled her eyes as Harriet bit her lips, not knowing what to do.

“I don’t have any name. You can name me. As for what I am, I am what you call an Artificial Intelligence. I am created as your companion. Forever.” His words made Harriet’s eyes widen in shock. “As for communication, I can heal your throat if you wish.”

“Nykkos…” the name slipped her lips, wincing a bit as her throat felt raw. Your name will be Nykkos. And please, heal my throat.

Okay. Gimme a sec.”

Warmth filled Harriet’s sore throat. She was strangled by Vernon two weeks ago that even her insane regeneration failed in trying to heal her. Touching it, she took a deep breath and spoke.

“Thank you, Nykkos.”

“Your welcome. Your injuries are too much for me to heal so I could only heal the ones needed most attention…”

She shook her head. “It’s enough. I would be injured once again anyway.”

Nykkos emerald green eyes narrowed in anger. “No. You died earlier. Your neck literally snapped into two killing you.” He folded his arms in his chest. “It was a loophole in the Blood Bird Cage System. If you go back, you will never manage to leave until you’re ten.”

Harriet bow down her head. “What should I do, then?”

“That’s why I am here. To be your family, confidante and Servant.” Nykkos words made her look upon him. “I am what you call a Gamer System, well, still prototype but unlike my fellow Systems, I am practically overkill and had the widest and insane modules available.”

“Huh? What exactly is a Gamer System?”

Gamer System is the phenomenon where the Host suddenly found his life turned into a video game. Unlike the normal ones, Missions are given randomly with appropriate prizes and you are free to choose if you wish to do them or not. No punishment or insane or unreasonable penalties.” Nykkos explained. “In addition, I am created for you, like JARVIS and FRIDAY in Iron Man. I don’t care about other people, as long as it pertains about you, rest assured I will deal with it.”

Warmth filled her heart making her smile softly. “Okay. Just don’t go overboard, please.”

(Later, Nia (Harriet) will look back in this memory and would wish to hit her younger self for not explaining to Nykkos what exactly being overbearing is. Their understanding of the world OVERBOARD is actually very different….)

“Thanks. Now, I will explain this while you eat.” A cute green lunchbox appeared in Harriet’s lap.

*

Ever since she was a small child, Harriet knew was different. Not because she was a freak— ugh, honestly,— but because she isn’t blind like the rest of the pathetic sheeple surrounding Privet Drive.

Sigh, to be honest, even Harriet herself would not have noticed it if not for that Frying Pan attack Aunt Dearest gave to her earlier that day.

Please note the sarcasms, please and thank you.

Back to the bullshit she calls life, Harriet— no, absolutely not my name— or rather Hinaichigo, Nia for short, surname all in asterisks sat in her knees, legs tuck in like a proper otaku. She was alone in the abandoned park, clad in this annoying cast offs of Dudley because the fucking Giraffe would rather hang herself than spend money for the Freak niece.

Fucking Dursleys.

Nykkos calmly told her that he was her System, aka Gamer System like those ridiculous (but she loves) to read novels.  Nykkos, unlike the other System that gets off by Trolling and pissing their hosts off, was very well mannered and carefully, with full detail and PowerPoint presentations, explained his role.

As stated earlier, he was HER System. Nykkos job is to mold the Host —Nia— into a Domineering and Badass Motherfucking CEO, (yes, all capitals). Basically, he would make sure that Nia grows into the woman she was meant to be and not as the poster girl of the Light Faction led by Dumbledore.

“[I was suppose to wake up in your eleventh birthday but the Giraffe killed you.]” Nykkos tone was two levels colder. “[Miss Nia only has six lives left from original seven. I will compensate the lost life with the Gift {Outsider Knowledge}]”

Nia frowned a bit. “Outsider Knowledge? Explanations, please.”

“[Outsider Knowledge allows you to copy someone’s Knowledge from other dimensions. It’s a Self Insert, if you must know.]”

“Does that mean I can have the memory of my alternate self?”

“[A copy of it, yes. Unless you wanted to accommodate another soul. And since it’s my fault for not preventing you to die and I managed to get this feature, I already found a Nia who is very compatible for you. Be warned that the migraine it will cause is unbearable and you will pass out because of it. It’s advisable to find a proper place to rest and recuperate, Miss.]”

Nia slightly tilt her head on the left, emotions swirling in her eyes.

“Nykkos is so good to me… no one had done that before…” the words spoken was soft… and filled with raw emotions.  “I will need your help, Nykkos. The Gift would help me tremendously… however, I am a bit hesitant to accept it for I do not have any place to call safe.”

A holographic screen suddenly appeared in front of her. The words First Mission was written in beautiful calligraphy.

I need a safe place!

“My, what a tall order.” Nia touched the screen a bit. “May I see my Profile?”

Nykkos showed her the Profile Page.

“Thank you. I accept the mission.”

“[First Mission, Activated.]” a pause. “[But first, do buy something to eat. You have an inventory so storing food and other necessities won’t be a problem.]”

“Nykkos, have I told you that you are the Gift of the Gods?”

Nia giggled feeling her Companion’s smugness.

*

Following Nykkos’ guidance, Nia brought herself a week’s supply of ready to eat food, clothes and other essentials. No one bat an eye seeing a child buying food and clothes in small quantities in different stores.

Ding! Skill activated, Observe!

Ding! Skill activated, Sense Danger!

Ding! Skill activated, Presence of Concealment!

Congratulations, you’re a budding assassin!

Nia sweat dropped seeing the last one. “Presence of Concealment?” She asked mentally.

“[Ability to blend in the crowd, or shadows, Miss. This skill would be helpful if you decide to hide.]” Nykkos explained softly. “[This ability activated because it’s a necessity in your life.]”

Nia inwardly wince. “Indeed. The Dursleys honed that skill… what level is it now?” A status box appeared.

Skill; Presence of Concealment

LVL 20

Observe, lvl 20

Sense Danger, lvl 20

Nia hummed, taking a huge bite of her ice cream. By the way, she was currently in London, arriving there by acting cute to the taxi driver.

By utilizing your hidden actress, you activated the skill Celebrity! Keep up the good work!

Anyway, for the first time since forever, Nia’s tummy was full, and she was wearing clothes that fits her. It might be second hand dress but it’s hers. So is her cute bunny heels and bunny bag pack. She made a good use of the Inventory and filled it with food, clothes and medicine.

“Where should we go now?”

“[Buy a hat and let’s go to Diagon Alley. Hibiscus Alley could be accessed there.]” Nykkos told her.

Nodding, Nia brought a cute cat hat that hide her entire forehead and half of her face. Following Nykkos’ directions, she arrived at Diagon Alley, asked the man for entrance before vanishing with her ability.

*

Hibiscus Alley was filled with hibiscus flowers, smells so good and beautiful. A complete contrast to Diagon Alley which made Nia flinch seeing how dirty, stagnant and crowded. Sure, it has a charm but….

Anyway, Nia hitched her bunny back pack and entered the beautiful inn called  Camellia Inn

Manning the reception is a young woman around her twenties, reading a book about…. Nia titled her head, not understanding the characters. Approaching the strawberry blonde woman, she pouted seeing she can’t reach it.

“Um, Excuse me, Pretty Big Sister…”

Said Pretty Elder Sister paused from her reading, then looked around seeing no one, one Elena Carter shuddered.

“It’s clearly daytime… are ghost early now?” She thought.

“Big sister, down here, if you please.” Looking down, Elena bit her lips and gripped the counter lest she jump and scare the cutest little girl she had ever seen.

“Oh hello~ how can I help you?” Dear Merlin, so cute!

“I wish to stay for a month, please.” Nia politely answered.

“Eh? Alone?” A seed of doubt sprouted in Elena’s heart as she really looked at her. Noticing the signs, she sighed. “Okay. What’s your name, sweetie?”

“Nia Porter.” Nykkos and Nia talked about aliases and simply chosen something simple. And it won’t confuse her anyway.

“Mn. I’m Elena Carter.” Elena introduced herself as she signed Nia in. “One Galleon per night, three meals and three snacks included. Total of thirty galleons. But since you are cute, I’ll make it twenty five,”

The girl nodded, and pulled out a green pouch with bunny embroidery. Elena snorted seeing it and helped Nia count the money.

“Camellia inn is what you categorize as a four star Inn. That’s why we’re in the rather pricy range.” Elena explained as she processed the paperwork. Pulling out a black card, she gave it to Nia. “Room 27, Third Floor. A House Elf will be watching you for the duration of your time here.”

Nia listened attentively, making Elena coo inwardly. “Thank you for your help, Big Sister.”

“Well then. Colby.” A well dressed male House Elf appeared. He was the same height of Nia, wearing a very clean pillow case with the Inn’s crest. “Colby, this is our guest Miss Porter. She will be staying in the Third Floor and your charger in the duration of her stay.”

“Understood, Missy Elena.” Colby flapped his ears.

Nia clasp her hands together. “Hello, Mr. Colby. My name is Nia. Please take care of me,” she gave the startled Elf a polite bow.

What a polite girl! Both Master and Elf exclaimed in their hearts as Nia elegantly stood up straight. Her posture is so beautiful, that they thought she came from a noble family.

A noble family that abuses their daughters, that is.

“Pleasure to meet you, Missy Porter.” Colby returned the bow. “Please follow me to your rooms.”

Nia gave Elena a polite goodbye o before following Colby.

**

The room Colby brought Nia stunned even Nykkos. Nia— much to the amusement of Colby— took a step back and glance upon the room number plate.

Room 27— VIP

“Is this the correct room, Mr. Colby?”

“Yes, Missy. It is your room.”

Nia gave the beautiful room a once over. .. “Elena-neesan lied to me. This Inn is not, a Four Star one. It’s a freaking Seven Star!” She entered the room that won’t be out of place to what Nykkos calls Forbes Magazine.

“Colby will take it as a compliment.” Colby checked the room for any suspicious activity before letting Nia in and closing the door. “Does Missy Nia need anything?”

The girl shook her head. “Nothing as of now, Mr. Colby. I wish to rest, please.”

The said House Elf nodded. “Call me when needed.” With that, he left.

Nia went to the couch and slumped over it. “Temporary shelter, found.”

“I never knew such place existed before.” A ball of light blinded her a bit before Nykkos appeared in his corporal form. Like Nia, he was wearing a cat ear hoodie, shorts, long socks and dress shoes. A pair of eyeglasses complete his get up.

All in all, they look like twins.

“We only learned it by asking.” She squirmed and glance over her … brother. “How did you do that?” Nia was referring to his form.

Nykkos blinked. “I actually don’t know how. And you’re the one who dump all those Leaf Points—“ the Game Currency ”— in the Avatar Mode. Seems to be a waste if I didn’t use it.”

Nia gave him a once over. “Fifty Billion Leaf Points is worth it.” She stood up, dragged the bewildered AI to the couch for a cuddle. A satisfied smile painted her lips as she buried her face on Nykkos’ stomach. “Worth it.”

Affection and helplessness filled Nykkos’ eyes as he ran his fingers through her messy short hair. “Silly rascal.”

Satisfied giggles filled the rather quiet room.
