Chapter Text

Swirls of pinks and reds fell onto the park green below ; the cherry blossoms had finally bloomed signalling the start of spring. As he lay his head on the windowsill, tiny petals floated through the window and perched on a nest of blonde hair. Exhausted, his eyes fluttered shut only to be startled awake by a screeching voice.

“Yeosanggg, your break’s over!,” Fluffy red hair popped out from the edge of the door frame. Lethargically, Yeosang lifted his head up. Putting his palm to his cheek, he realised the glare of the sun warmed his face. Damn.

“Sheesh, what happened to your face?” Wooyoung inquired. Sometimes he worried for his childhood friend ; his observation skills were severely lacking.

“What do you think? You know my face flushes easily when it’s warm.”

Wooyoung at least had the sense to offer him a sheepish smile. “Anyway you need to get back to work. I didn’t work my ass off for this cafe to entertain time wasters like you,” emphasising his point with a shaking index finger.

“Hongjoong literally just made you a superior, deflate that ego of yours,” winking at Wooyoung as he brushed past him in the doorway to continue his shift. He stuck his tongue out in return.

“How old are you, remind me Wooyoung bestie?” Yeosang called from the hallway. “Five?”

“I hate you” “Love you too, bestie”

“Two iced vanilla lattes!,”Jongho called from the till.

Huh, Yeosang thought to himself. Starway Cafe was still relatively new and he had memorised all the orders of their usual - albeit little - customers. Most people who frequented the establishment were worn out college students looking for a change of scenery so most orders consisted of an XL Americano or one of Wooyoung’s experiments specials. Apparently, no one could resist his charismatic persuasion. Yeosang begged to differ.

Glancing over his shoulder, he was met with the sight of two fairly tall guys: one wearing a pastel lilac sweater with cream corduroy pants while the other wore an all black ensemble complete with silver jewellery.

Shit. He totally forgot about the order.

“ Table 5, please Yeosang,” Jongho requested.

“Isn’t Wooyoung supposed to be serving?” Yeosang asked, rolling his eyes. Of course he would use his promotion to try and forgo his duties. He was probably- ”Texting San. Something about help for his chemistry midterms.” Jongho interrupted Yeosang’s musings.

“That idiot literally failed chemistry - three times.”he muttered while taking the lattes to - glancing at the receipt stuck to one of the drinks - Table 5.

Setting the cups down on the table, he seems to have startled the peach haired guy in the purple sweater whose head jerked back and collided with the wooden backing which separated the different tables.

“Shit, Mingi you good?” The other guy in black reached over with his hand to cradle - Mingi’s? - chin. “Yeah, just a light tap!”, lightly waving his hands to reassure him. “Well, if you say so”

“Do you need anything else?” Yeosang inquired, drawing the attention of the two men. His right hand hovered in the air, waiting for a response. “Mm n-no.” Curiously, Mingi’s cheek flushed pink when Yeosang turned his attention towards him. He shrugged. Maybe it was the warm temperature in the cafe.

He turned on his heel towards the direction of the till - mentally reminding himself to get Hongjoong to scold Wooyoung.Hongjoong was the elusive owner and manager of the cafe who - in Yeosang’s opinion - should really find a new manager if he was going to stay holed in his music studio instead of leaving a competent supervisor (read not Wooyoung). He had never been much of the artistic type preferring plants to pianos but he was pretty sure isolation is said to kill creativity - or something. Definitely not the creative type.

Returning to his usual art of making XL Americanos, he almost didn’t notice the soft“Excuse me?”from behind him. Turning around, the guy named Mingi stood with his head tilted slightly downwards.“Do you know where the guy with brown hair and wearing a navy sweater is?”

“Jongho? He went to fetch more cups from the storeroom. He should be back in a minute. Did you need anything?” Mingi seemed to take a breath before blurting out“Ireallylikeyourearrings!”

“What?”“Your purple candy earrings, they’re ... really pretty”

“Oh, thanks” Yeosang ducked his head downwards, feeling his cheeks heat up. He quickly glanced noticing Mingi pulling on his jumper creating sweater paws. Cute. Wait what?

He was saved by the reappearance of Jongho from the storeroom.“Mingi wanted you for - actually I don’t know. What did you want him for?” Mingi was quick to correct him.“Actually my friend over there”, gesturing in the direction of the guy in black still sitting at the table,“wanted to give you this”. He handed Jongho a furled piece of paper.

Jongho started to open it but was stopped by the guy in black who jumped up from the table.“WAIT.Sorry for scaring you but could you please open it after we leave? Also my name is Yunho”Jongho nodded in understanding at Yunho who now had a light tint of pink on his face.

The pair left the cafe and a a loud squeal of “OMG WHAT WAS IT?” emanated from behind Jongho and Yeosang.“So now you decide to reappear.” sighed Yeosang, unimpressed at his best friend’s shenanigans.

Jongho opened the note.~hi my name is yunho and i think you’re really cute call me (like if you want i'm not forcing you) xxxx-xxxx-xxx~

My baby Jongho has an admirer!!!”“Wooyoung, do you want to die? Then hush.” Yeosang turned to Jongho. “So are you gonna call him?” He shrugged.

“Oh wait, there is something on the other side”~ps. i’m becoming a regular~

“Welp, now I guess I don’t have a choice”
