Chapter 1: The Tom and Jerry Incident

Notes:

How does a cat uproot an entire play structure?!?!

Chapter Text

Sun was cleaning the daycare after the last child left, breathing a sigh of relief when the guard finished their work and left for the night, blowing an air kiss to him before shutting the doors.  He was so busy denying the flirtatious guard and running the daycare, he didn’t have a chance to spend quality time with his son.  He internally cries for joy when he finishes wiping down the security desk, and all the barrels are in their proper places.

“Finally, now Gregory and I can watch ‘Mewtwo Strikes Back’!”

Sun exited the daycare with a skip in his step.  Entering the Celestial Theater, he swoops Gregory into a hug and peppers his cheeks with robotic kisses.

“My little star, are you ready to watch the movie?”

“Yeah! Look, I set up the beanbags and got the snacks.”

Gregory excitedly brings Sun into his room, containing two galaxy-themed bean bags sitting in front of a big screen. Pizza and juice boxes were between the bead-filled seats.

Wonderful!”

Gregory had already pulled up the movie on Netflix, and it was paused on the opening.  The father and son duo sat down as the lights dimmed, Moon replacing Sun.

“One of the plushies suggested this movie and said it was good. They have yet to lie to us so I’m looking forward to it.”

“Oh, I think it was the Custard plushie. They always talk about Pokémon and the characters in amazing detail.”

The opening credits ended, the actual movie starting.  The two quiet down and cuddle throughout the movie, savoring the peace.  Before the movie ended, Gregory had fallen asleep, and Moon picked up his son, bringing him back to his room in the daycare and tucking him in.  It was quiet…for 34 minutes.

CRASH

Moon jumped upon hearing the loud noise.  Gregory also jumped, being startled awake.

“What the heck!?”

Moon had Gregory stay in bed as he went to investigate.  He wishes he hadn’t.  The reason for the loud noise was something so ridiculous, it should be impossible.  The reason for the crash was because-

“How!? How are the play structures tipped over?!”

Moon stood there shocked, mouth agape as he stared at the uprooted play structures, collapsed like building blocks.

“WHAT HAPPENED?!  IT’S BEEN TWO AND A HALF HOURS?!”

A star animatronic was amidst the chaos, giving Moon a sheepish look. She signed to him.

“I was left unsupervised?”

Moon looked at her, tapping a foot and clearly unimpressed with her answer.  He clearly wanted an explanation on how the structures that are rooted to the ground were now toppled over like the barrels.

Star looked away, embarrassed, before pulling a dead mouse from behind her back.

“There was a mouse...”

“Of course, you somehow uproot the structures over a mouse.”

Moon facepalmed.

“Call maintenance and have them fix it by morning.  YOU are going to help them.”

Star just nodded before leaving the daycare to find the employees.

The moment she left; Moon burst out laughing as he returned to his son’s room.  Gregory looked at him in confusion until Moon explained what happened.  Gregory started laughing too.

Sun was in the mindscape, the only thing on his mind besides Moon and his son’s laughter echoing through his head is the situation itself. He had watched the entire thing from beginning to end, as though from behind a screen. If he were less aware, he would have thought the situation came right out of a bad sit-com, but alas, there was no laugh track.

“How? The structures are fixed to the ground ...How does a mouse chase cause that much chaos in two hours and thirty minutes?!”
