Lucy knew that Tim would find out about her struggle with Oliver. It was pretty obvious from the way she was walking and the way her hair was out of place. She knew he would read the report but somehow she thought she could still hide it from him.
She fought off the paramedic who was trying to take a look at her. I’m fine she spit out to him. She limped toward her shop and got in tilting her head back against the headrest and feeling dizzy as she did it. Fuck how hard did Oliver slam her head against the wall? She rubbed the back of head, shaking it. Maybe she should go to the hospital. She sat there for a few more minutes, debating with herself. A couple of minutes, went by and Lucy felt better. She did. She wasn’t dizzy, it hurt but what did she expect? Oliver had almost gotten the upper hand on her.
When Lucy got back to the station, she felt better. She did. Tim wasn’t back from his case with Angela, Nyla and Aaron so she went to change. She got a bout of dizziness as she walked to the locker rooms. It’s nothing she thought as she got dressed. It’s nothing.
She sat down on the bench putting her head between her legs. She had never had a concussion before, she had been in enough scuffles with people she arrested but she had never actually gotten a concussion. She knew the signs though but she pushed that thought out of her mind. She and Tim had plans and concussion be damned if she missed a date with Tim.
Lucy was starting to feel better as she walked to her car. She pulled out her phone to check for any messages from Tim. She had one from Tamara that said she would be at a friends house tonight with a winky emoji. She rolled her eyes but texted a thumbs up emoji back. She sent Tim a quick text
Lucy: Can’t wait to see you.
Lucy sighed as she pulled out of the parking garage, turning right to go to her apartment. Tim was going to meet her there and she wanted to get ready before he got there. Cases like Kyra’s were always hard, she wanted to leave but she was under Oliver’s spell even to the point where he had hit her and she still wanted to go back. Lucy shook her mind of Kyra and Oliver. She parked her car, got out and grabbed her bag from the backseat. She had only bent over for a minute and when she stood back up, she got a wave a nausea.
Fuck
Shit
It didn’t mean anything she thought. She adjusted her bag on her shoulders and headed up the stairs.
The headache came just as she was opening her door. She rubbed her temple as if some pressure would help.
The nausea hit when got into her apartment. She had plans to make Tim dinner and then make out with Tim in that order and she could do neither if she didn’t feel well. She groaned as she flopped down on her sofa and closed her eyes. She felt bile rise in her throat. She hopped up and barely made it to the bathroom. She bent over the sink throwing up until she had nothing left. She groaned. This really was throwing a wrench in her plans.
The fatigue hit as she was cleaning up her bathroom sink. She felt her eyes slip and she made it to the couch, flopping down and groaning. She couldn’t sleep just yet. Even if Tim realized she didn’t feel well, she still wanted to bury her hand into his chest and breathe in the scent that was just Tim.
Since they weren’t sleeping together yet. They were more like horny teenagers and honestly Lucy didn’t mind one bit. She had finally had Tim Bradford. And honestly every single day, they had been together had been perfect.
She wasn’t going to let one domestic abuse call with one asshole of a guy ruin this for her. Nope.
The dizziness came next. She got up to get a drink of water, when her headache hadn’t subsided and everything was blurry. She barely made it to the sink. She slid down the wall, putting her head between her legs like she had in the locker room. This wasn’t happening.
Tim grinned as he read the message from Lucy. They had basically been spending every night together and he was absolutely loving it. Every night he got to spend with Lucy Chen was one hundred percent worth it.
Tim: Can’t wait!
He knew she was probably getting ready but he decided to give her a call anyway. It went to voicemail. He frowned as her perky voice came over the line telling him to leave a message. He didn’t think much of it though because she was cooking dinner tonight and she probably already had started.
Tim got back to the station said bye to Angela, Nyla and Aaron and then went to get changed. He wanted to get to Lucy’s as soon as possible. It didn’t matter they weren’t sleeping together yet but he just wanted to be close to her. He decided to call her again. Voicemail. Tim tried one more time, concern and worry starting creep up on him. He frowned as her phone went to voicemail for the third time. This time he left a voicemail.
Hey Lucy. It’s me. I’m on my way over. Just wanted to make sure you know. See you soon.
Lucy not answering her phone was weird. He knew she had gone to a domestic violence call but hadn’t heard anything more so he thought it had gone ok. He dialed her number again, and looked around the station looking for someone who might of seen her before she had left. When her phone yet again went to voicemail. Tim had enough, he went to change grabbed his stuff and hurried to his truck. He knew something was wrong, Lucy always answered the phone, but more than that she always answered his calls. And she had been so excited about doing nothing tonight, he found it hard to believe she wouldn’t be answering his calls.
He made it to her apartment in record time. He parked next to her car, which should of brought him relief but the panic that was building up in him oh increased.
He took the steps two by two, getting to the sixth floor in record time. Her door was slightly open and he pushed inside to find her in the kitchen, head between her legs.
“Lucy!” He was down on the ground in seconds, lifting her head up. “Lucy what’s wrong?”
She was barely awake, her eyes half shut.
She must of heard him because she shook her head before wincing.
“I’m fine.” She slurred. “Head hurts. Tired. But I’m fine.”
Tim tilted her head up. She was pale and she was struggling to keep her eyes open.
“Baby.” He said quietly. “Do you have a concussion?”
She shook her head. “No. He didn’t slam my head against the wall that hard!”
Tim furrowed his brows. “Who slammed your head against a wall?” He was fighting two emotions: one angry at Oliver for hurting her and panic that his girlfriend most definitely had a concussion.
“Oliver?” She said looking up at him. She looked confused as if she wasn’t sure that was the right answer.
“Your domestic’s boyfriend?”
She shrugged and put her head between her legs again. Tim could see her slipping and he couldn’t let that happen. No no no
“How long have you been feeling like this Lucy?” He asked as stern as he could.
“Locker rooms dizzy.” She said but her voice was muffled and Tim’s panic rose.
Tim closed his eyes, as much as he wanted to yell at her for not going to the hospital he knew it wouldn’t do any good.
“Ok so here is what we are going to do Luce.” He said gently. He picked up her and set on the ground letting her lean against him. “We are going to the hospital because you definitely have a concussion.”
“But date night.” She protested. She had buried her head into his chest. Tim let a huff of laughter.
“Date night can wait baby. This is a little more important.” He kissed the top of her head before lifting up her head.
“I need you to stay awake Lucy. No sleeping.”
“Tired Tim.” She mumbled and Tim felt his heart racing.
“I know baby. I know. Please stay awake.”
Tim managed to get her down the stairs and into his truck quickly.
“Don’t fall asleep Luce.” He said. He glanced over at his girlfriend. She wasn’t asleep but her eyes were glazed.
He got to the hospital in record time pulling in front of the emergency room entrance . He pulled her out as gently as he could. A nurse came walking out glancing at him.
“Sir. You can’t-”
“Concussion.” He managed to spit out at the nurse who was staring at them with wide eyes. “She’s a cop. She went on a call today and got her head rammed into the wall.”
The nurse nodded and ushered them both into the emergency room.
“Keep her awake.” Said the nurse gently. They both got Lucy into the bed. “How long ago was this?”
Tim shook his head. “Maybe 3-4 hours ago? I wasn’t- I wasn’t with her. And she didn’t-”
“It’s okay sir. We got her. Just keep her awake ok?”
Tim glanced over at Lucy. “Stay awake. Stay awake.” Lucy’s brown eyes were searching his face. She smiled slightly. He kissed her hand. “Stay awake baby.”
Lucy woke up to bright white walls, her head pounding and Tim Bradford asleep by her bedside. It was the latter that made her tear up and smile all at the same time. She shift slightly and she saw Tim blearily wake up.
“Hey.” She said softly. “Sorry we missed date night.”
Tim snorted. And stood up to kiss her forehead. “Lucy. You had a concussion. Why didn’t you-”
Lucy shrugged. She had spent all night denying she had a concussion, she wasn’t even sure why. All she remembered was Tim.
“Thanks for saving me.”
Tim laughed softly tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. He sobered a little bit. “You scared me Luce. You were really out of it.”
Lucy was silent. “I’m sorry Tim. I was trying to- I don’t know what I was trying to do. I know it was stupid. I really was fine.”
Tim sighed, slipping his hand into hers. “Well I guess this could be a date right? Better late than never.”
Lucy laughed. Her head was still pounding and she was stuck in a hospital bed but Tim was besides her and she had a feeling he hadn’t left all night.
“Yea better late than never.”
She grinned as Tim leaned over to kiss her. “We don’t have normal dates anyway.” Tim smiled against her lips. And no this wasn’t how Lucy imagined her date night going but she had Tim beside her and that’s all that really mattered.
