High Above it All

Summary:

High in the sky, so far away from from anyone else.

Grian makes history.

Work Text:

Grian had to take an extra deep breath to get enough air in his lungs. Sky Net 2 was so high in the air he couldn’t see the floor below. Falling off would most likely mean an agonizing wait before an excruciating death.

It gave Grian a rush so intense he nearly fell off the bridge with his little giggles of joy.

His targets stood below on Sky Net 1. They looked like ants scurrying about. The only sounds in Grian’s ears as he laid the rails were the whistling of freezing winds and his own shaky breaths. Every exhale revealed a puff of fog in front of his face.
The process was quick and slow simultaneously. He had done this a thousand times before and shed much blood, but he nearly forgot how to set up the trap in his eagerness to kill. Red ran through his veins instead of blue. A look in the mirror the first morning he was past 8 hours revealed a crimson glow filling his once deep brown eyes.

He loved it.

Every second spent on his red life was filled with ecstasy and mayhem. He could never waste a day if his name was red.
Grian did one final check and found the ants still huddled together towards the bottom. He could see them but they couldn’t see him.

An inferior species. They would be dead soon.

The setting sun gave everything a beautiful rose hue. A perfect buildup for a deadly night.

Grian took one deep breath to steady himself. Then another.

And took the shot.

He watched as the mine cart descended and sent another over the edge, (“for good measure”).

It took a moment for Grian to register what he was seeing.

4.

4!

Every breath, every minute, every second of adrenaline came to pass and set off fireworks throughout his red blood. He could just make out the splattered blood below. It was all that remained of the ants. Grian screamed. He jumped up and down while hollering into the cold night. 4! 4 Kills!

This was the best moment of his life!

He stopped his ridiculous dancing when the stone crumbled just a touch beneath his right foot and he nearly stumbled just a touch. Of course this meant he had no outlet for his insane adrenaline. Grian sat down with his legs dangling over the edge. He wasn’t considering the possibility of falling right now. He had just scored the best kill of the game. The burning in his heart was pleased and he felt an odd sense of peace. Well, peace and the craving for more death building up once again.
He took a few more deep breaths to steady himself and remembered he had to get off the bridge before someone, (or four someones), came back for revenge.
Grian stood and began to walk towards the ladder, still absolutely reeling from his incredible kill.

He was proud of himself. And he hoped his friends
would be too.

Notes:

I just wanted to write about that kill Grian got because holyshitthatwasawesome.
