Chapter Text

********

Derek was going to kill someone.

He didn’t know who but he was.

No one, and he means no one gets to shoot Reid and get away with it.

********

Morgan was at the BAU late. Again.

He needed to finish up a report on one of the team's latest cases. It didn’t take super long, he was out of his office around 12:40am.

Walking towards the elevator, he spotted someone.

“Hey baby girl, what is your beautiful self doing here so late?”

“I could ask you the same thing, my love.”

“Just finishing a report on that case. What about you?”

But before Garcia could respond, Morgan's phone rang, with a sigh he took out his phone to answer.

“Hey Hotch.”
“.......”
“Yeah I’m with Penelope, why?”
“.......”
“What? Hospital? Why?” Garcia's eyes widened when she heard him say hospital, thinking something bad had happened. (She was right)
“......”
“What?”
“........”
“....ok. On our way now then.”

Sighing, Morgan put his phone away, and headed for the elevator, while Garcia asked him a bunch of questions to which his only response was that he would give her lift to the hospital. When they got the car, and were on their way to the hospital, Morgan told Penelope that Reid had been shot.

Twice.

-40 minutes later-

Rushing to the waiting area where the rest of the team was, except for Hotch, who was at the reception desk.

“Where is he?” Morgan asked, feeling about ready to punch someone, or something.

Rossi seemed to be the only one who right away realized he was there, Emily was comforting JJ, who seemed very close to having a breakdown. Upon further inspection Derek noted she had blood on her hands, forearms and shirt.

“He’s in surgery, no idea how much longer though.” The older agent told him.

“How long has he been in there?”

Morgan would deny this vehemently to anyone who asked, but he jumped hearing Garcia’s voice. Then he was cursing himself internally for forgetting she was there.

“Just over two hours.”

Hearing this, Morgan stopped swearing inside his head at himself. More questions rushed through his mind, most of which only Reid could answer so he asked the one Rossi perhaps knew the answer to.

“Two hours?! When was he shot?!”

“We don’t know, he lost a lot of blood. He was barely conscious when JJ found him….. They said if it had been any later he would’ve probably died on the way here.”

That explained the blood on JJ, and why she was freaking out.

“Where was he shot?” Penelope asked.

“Once in the shoulder and once in his gut.” The older agent replied.

“God, I’m going to sit down, sugar you should do the same you look like you’re about to pass out.” She said, putting her hand on Morgan's arm. He flinched. Derek Morgan flinched.

Garcia quickly removed her hand, giving him a worried look, she walked over to JJ and Prentiss, sitting down next to them.

“Morgan, good you’re here.” Hotch said, walking over to him and Rossi. “Dave, can I have a minute?”

“Sure thing, I was never here.”

Morgan watched as the senior agent walked over to the rest of the team before turning back to face Hotch.

“Morgan, are you ok?”

“What? Yeah I’m…. fine. Why?”

“Because right now you look like you’re about to punch something.”

Morgan sighed, “Yeah I kind of want to right now.”

“Go sit down. We’ll get notified when he’s out of surgery.”

Derek noticed Hotch just said when he was out of surgery not if he was going to be ok. He knew Hotch didn’t want to get their hopes up, but Morgan could see the clear concern and hope for the young genius.

He should sit down, he felt like passing out, but running across the world at the same time. Just as Morgan was about to go sit down, a doctor wearing surgical scrubs walks into the waiting area, once he was spotted, everyone who was sitting stood up, bracing themselves for bad news.

The doctor looked at them, “ He made it.”

Everyone breathed out the breath they had been holding.

“He’s going to need plenty of time off for a full recovery, but he’ll pull through.”

Everyone on the team hugged and high fived, feeling lighter than ever knowing the young doctor was going to be ok.

The doctor looked at them and asked, “Which one of you is Derek Morgan?”

Morgan raised his eyebrows, “Uh that would be me.”

“Agent Reid asked that you be the first one to see him, I will warn you he’s still recovering from the anaesthesia, so he might not make much sense, or seem a bit out of it.”

Morgan looked over at Hotch, who nodded for him to go, a knowing look in his eye that Derek couldn’t place. Then he turned to the doctor and asked which room Reid was in.
