Chapter Text
The class had just reached the trial room when Mana snapped out of her dissociation. In the corner of her eye she saw the green hair of her recently deceased girlfriend. She turned quickly and locked eyes with Shizen.
Was this real? I mean, hadn’t Mana just discovered Shizen’s lifeless body? Is the person smiling at Mana a ghost?
Shizen just stood there smiling at Mana, who stopped moving.
“Mana? You with us?” asked a worried Yoshi.
Before she could respond, Mana had bolted straight up in her bed.
“Oh, a dream.” she let out a sigh of relief.
Looking over, Mana notices Shizen is looking at her with a worried look.
“Mana, did you have another nightmare?” Shizen asked.
Mana rubbed her eyes, trying to think of an answer to what her girlfriend had asked.
“I, um… Did we go to trial?” she muttered, still clearly not fully awake.
“No, silly. Let’s go meet the others for breakfast!”
“Oh, alright then.” Mana agreed, yawning.
The two of them headed to the elevator, Shizen basically pulling Mana to the cafeteria. When they got there everyone was eating already.
“Good morning, Mana! Did you sleep well?” greeted Hoshiko while pouring a glass of orange juice.
“Mm, I guess so.”
“You look like a wreck, no offense of course.”
“I feel like I didn’t sleep a wink last night.”
“Me too. I don’t think I’ve slept worse in my entire life.”
Monokuma showed up, interrupting our conversation, “Hello and good morning, students. Today I have a surprise for you. It’s a seven-layer parfait flambé!”
Monokuma pulled out the aforementioned dish and put it in the middle of the room.
“God, Monokuma. Is now the time for your stupid foreign desserts? We just lost 2 of our classmates.” shouted Hisashi.
“Now, now, you ungrateful brat, I didn’t kill your classmates. If you really think about it, they killed themselves.” Monokuma sounded pissed. He was practically steaming.
“Whatever, stupid teddy bear.”
“Why, you!” Monokuma lunged at Hisashi, but mana stepped in front of him just in time.
“You will not hurt my brother, he didn’t break any rules.” Mana scolded the small, robotic bear.
“Fine, enjoy your flambé, students.” he disappeared from the room, muttering something under his breath. It was probably swears directed at Hisashi and Mana.
“What was he talking about? Someone died?” Shizen inquired, on the verge of tears.
“I don’t know, Shizen, I’m sorry.” Mana tried to stay calm.
“What do you mean, Mana? You don’t know Shizen?” Hisashi had a puzzled look on his face.
“Huh? I’m talking to Shizen. If you would use your eyes, you would know that.”
“Dude, what? Shizen is dead.”
“No they aren’t. Look!”
Hisashi leaned to the side and raised an eyebrow, “Sis, no one is there.”
Shizen smiled politely and disappeared.
Mana realized what had taken place the previous day. She fell to her knees and cried. Hisashi was confused and tried to comfort her.
“I- I don’t understand, why was she with me all morning?” Mana barely got out through sobs.
“What do you mean? You came in alone, Mana.” Hisashi said, feeling genuine concern for his sister.
“Oh.”
