When Tulip Husbands

Summary:

I don’t even know

Chapter Text

Jimmy was out on his own for the first time in his life, having just become old enough to not need to be taken care of, and therefore being forced to move out and find his own place to stay. Although, there was a storm approaching, he was sure even a little avian could tell by the dark clouds covering the sky like a blanket, and usually he didn’t mind the rain; he’d just go inside and wait it out, but the problem was — he didn’t have anywhere to go just yet.

The storm was approaching quickly and Jimmy soon felt the first rain drops tap him on the head slowly. Drip…… drip…….. drip…… drip…. drip… drip drip drip.

It was now fully raining and Jimmy was getting soaked, he quickly tried to find somewhere to stay; a cave, a big enough hole, anything. The gusts of wind pushed him around, seeing as he wasn’t very heavy since like all avians and avian hybrids — his bones were hollow, so even though he looks normal, he’s really not that heavy.

;My feathers seem to have taken the brunt of the storm,

They are pretty worn.;

There! He spotted a cave, a cave too small for bears to want to live in and big enough for him to stay in — for now, at least.

He went over to it and walked in, quickly noticing the odd green… slime..? On the walls, yuck, before seeing another avian hybrid — this time a parrot — sitting in the cave, too. “Uh.. hi..” he greeted the parrot avian, and he looked up and waved at him, “hi, you don’t have anywhere else to go, too, do you?” The parrot hybrid asked, “no, just got sent to be on my own, really. Terrible timing.” Jimmy answered and the other’s eyes widened, “same! I’m Xelqua, but I prefer Grian more, since it’s like grain” Grian introduced himself “well I’m Jimmy” said the shorter, “oh cool, nice to meet you, Timmy!”

Jimmy blinked a few times before laughing, “no, no, not Timmy, Jimmy” he said, exaggerating the ‘J’ in Jimmy, “I heard you, but I think Timmy’s better.” Grian said with an innocent smile.

;We finally found shelter, tucked away inside a wall,

Though for now, it’s pretty small.

You and me, we can make this hole a home,

We can fill it up with grass and all the things that make it warm.;

Suddenly, the slime came together and formed at first a blob of slime with what looked like an ice cream cone on it’s head, then turned into.. almost a human. It had slime here and there and a big slime blob on it’s head with that same ice cream cone on top. “Hello! You two are awfully loud” it said, although sounded joyful for some reason.

Jimmy and Grian both jumped back and screamed like girls when the slime talked, both of their feathers ruffling up from surprise, “IT SPOKE!” Jimmy yelled, “I HEARD!” Grian yelled in response, “well, for one; yes, I spoke, I can do that. Two, I’m not an ‘it’” the goop human thing said, “IT CAN COUNT! TIMMY, IT CAN COUNT.” Grian yelled and Jimmy was too stunned to say anything

“Who even are you??” Jimmy asked, “I could ask you the same thing, but I already heard that you’re Jimmy. I don’t have an official name though, but I call myself Slimecicle or Slime” he answered.

The 3 spent a few hours talking and then went to sleep all huddled up in a snuggle pile since nobody really had the wood to start and keep a fire going. Then it turned into a day, then a week, a month, and then years went by, they made the hole into something more like a home, filled with comfortable moss and had a makeshift wall and door built at the entrance of their cave, and had makeshift decorations for the inside, but they still did snuggle piles.

They quickly learned that they all like tulips and started calling themselves the tulip trio and grew a garden full of tulips of many colors — red, orange, white, pink, you name it. They were comfortable like this

;When you leave to go fly across the sea,

I’ll be waiting here with Junior and the flowers that we’ve grown.

Collecting clumps of sticks and leaves has left me pretty tired,

Can I rest with you a while?;

They always slept with Grian in the middle of them, Slime on the left, and Jimmy on the right, but they’d sometimes change order whenever they feel like it. They could always hear the wind and rain coming from outside, but they never really minded.

;We snuggle up between the stones, wind blows peacefully.

There’s no place I’d rather be;

One day, someone else came knocking on their door, it was what Jimmy and Grian knew as a ‘Netherborne’, someone who was born in the nether and has almost demon-like qualities, along with being very warm almost no matter what. But they can’t be out in the rain, since although their skin is unbothered by the scorching temperatures of the Nether, wet and cold ones are a no-go for them.

The Netherborne said he was lost and stuck in the overworld after following someone into a Nether portal and that portal getting broken, he no longer knew what just about anything was and he told them that his name was Tango. He eventually learned what everything was and how things worked in the overworld, and turns out that he too liked tulips. Now they were the Tulip Cavers, yeah, not the best name, but you know.

;You and me, we can make this hole a home.

We can fill it up with grass and all the things that make it warm.;

One day, when Grian was out exploring and flying around like normal, he came across a civilization of both hybrids and humans of all kinds, that’s when he knew he had to tell the others about this place. So he flew back and when he got back to the cave-house, he immediately went inside. “Timmy, Slime, Tango! You guys won’t believe what I found!” Grian shouted, they all came to him asking questions about it, and Grian explained what he saw.

“So, you wanna go have a proper look around? It sounds like an interesting place” The Netherborne asked, and he got 2 yesses, 1 hesitant sure, and a question; how were they gonna carry Slime there? “Well, slime can just turn into, well, slime and we can carry him in a bucket or something” Jimmy answered, going and grabbing a bucket. “Slime, go goopy so I can carry you there” he said, and Slime did just that, turned into slime and Jimmy put him into the bucket.

They then all flew to the small city, there were so many big and fancy buildings and people dressed in weird clothes, and Grian and Jimmy went around being extroverts and talking to people who they stopped by long enough for it not to be weird to hold a conversation with them. They met this one guy — Mumbo Jumbo, but told to just call him Mumbo — who Tango was at first quite terrified of, if he was gonna be honest, but the others weren’t. This Mumbo guy was just too tall and lanky than what should be possible.

Before Tango knew it, the others wanted Mumbo to join them on their adventures, and they started calling themselves “the Tulip Husbands” even though they weren’t married. Yet. And yes, Tango did eventually warm up to Mumbo and not find him quite as intimidating after some time.
