The Idol And Oni Role Play

Summary:

After the events of staying the night with Itto, Gorou reaches out to Shinobu to help come up with a way to make Itto realize that his consequences have actions when it comes to being around an idol. Thanks to Shinobu's quick thinking and understanding of her boss, she comes up with a tabletop game. After getting a wig from a shop, Shinobu uses it on Gorou to help with the game, causing the idol to have mixed feelings as he doesn't want Itto to realize that Ms. Hina is fake. But through the fate of the dice, the two start to grow a bit closer.

Work Text:

A few days had passed since Gorou was practically pinned against Itto as the oni slept, meaning that the day for the idol date was fast approaching. Thankfully with the help of Shinobu, the pair had planned a way to make the date go off without too much incident. Shinobu had come up with the idea of using Itto’s love of tabletop games to their advantage. With the help of the other gang members, Shinobu came up with a detailed map of the amusement park, possible scenarios that could play out due to the oni’s nature of getting into trouble and how to best pick the possible answer on how to deal with the situations that won’t end up with the couple getting kicked out of the amusement park. Shinobu was able to ring in the other members of the gang to help out being the npc’s of the unofficial “Ms. Hina’s Secret Date Tabletop Role Playing Game!” When Itto had found out about the little game, he wanted to give it some wild and crazy name, something like: “Ms. Hina’s Wild And Crazy Amusement Park Date With A Dashing And Handsome Oni Tabletop Role Play Extraordinaire!” But Shinobu was not having any of that.

“So,” Shinobu paused as she glanced around the table that was set up in the gang’s little hang out spot. “Are you guys ready to play?” She asked, raising an eyebrow as she glanced mostly towards Gorou, who was currently wearing a cheap knock off Ms. Hina wig that felt like it hadn’t been washed a single day in its’ life.

“Oh yeah!” Itto chimed in happily, excited that he would be able to show off his tabletop skills to Gorou. “I am beyond excited for this game!” The way that Itto’s eyes shined brightly in his excitement was like seeing a kid getting to use their own money to get the best candy in the shop for the first time. “How did you come up with this game all by yourself, Shinobu?” Itto asked as it just dawned on him that this was seemingly made up right on the spot.

“Well, I know how excited you are for this date with Ms. Hina. So I figured it would be better to do a tabletop sort of game so you can understand that your actions will greatly affect Ms. Hina.” Shinobu bluntly remarked, setting up the little dividing screen with the different types of scenarios already written ahead of time. “So you need to take this seriously, boss!” Shinobu scolded, trying her best to drive the importance of this game to the thick skulled oni. “Now, we’re going to start off with you and Ms. Hina entering the amusement park after Ms. Hina was so kind as to pay for the two of you.” Shinobu started off, causing Gorou to let out a small nervous laugh as he moved their pieces past the drawn gate.

“The two of you look around and spot the large map of the grounds with a display of small maps next to it.” Shinobu started to set the scene as Itto seemed to get into his role as his expression changed from his normal goofy behavior to that of seriousness. “Now, Ms. Hina” Shinobu remarked, glancing towards Gorou in the wig. “Do you want to take a map or would you rather simply wander about and see the sights as they are?” Shinobu asked, giving Gorou a chance for his turn.

“Oh!” Gorou was a bit caught off guard with being called Ms. Hina, but this was mostly to help Itto, so he had to get used to it. “Um, I guess we could take a map. Figure out a pathway that would highlight most of the attractions so we can make good time to see everything we want before the park closes.” Gorou was usually the type who liked to make plans beforehand. Especially ever since he became Ms. Hina. Everything was already timed for him, and there wasn’t much of a break where he could simply wind down.

“Not a bad plan lil-” Itto started to speak, but seemingly caught himself mid-sentence. “I mean,” Itto paused, trying to think of something ‘normal’ to say as he didn’t want to seem like some weirdo talking to Ms. Hina. “Yeah, that sounds like it would be a pretty effective use of our time.” Itto corrected himself, feeling uncomfortable with the choice of his wording. Even the others looked at Itto with a concerned look on their face. “What? I’m sure Ms. Hina wouldn’t appreciate it if I called her lil lady or something!” Itto retorted, an embarrassed blush creeping on his cheeks, though Gorou couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle.

“I doubt Ms. Hina would care if you called her a lil’ lady.” Gorou remarked, the curves of his lips pulled back into a smile. “I’m sure Ms. Hina would appreciate it if you actually treated her like a real person, and not some celebrity that makes you feel like you can’t be yourself.” Gorou didn’t want to make this date feel awkward for the both of them. If anyone was going to have a romantic night with Ms. Hina, they should at the very least enjoy themselves on the date.

“You think so?” Itto asked, seemingly hanging onto Gorou’s words. With a small nod of Gorou’s head, Itto smiled brightly as he pushed his chest out a bit. “Alright lil’ lady. I, Arataki “The luckiest oni on the face of the planet” Itto, will make sure that you are fully satisfied with this date by the end of the night.” Itto remarked, causing most of the gang members to let out a small groan at their bosses’ embarrassing line. “What?! You got a problem with that?!” Itto asked, his mood changing from happy to angry real quick.

“Boss, relax. This isn’t the real date, remember?” Shinobu remarked, trying to divert the attention back to their tabletop game. “Anyways, as Ms. Hina picks up one of the maps, and you discover that the park is fairly large. You see all kinds of rides and food vendors. Ahead of you is a giant carousel that has a bunch of kids playing on it. Beside it is a tour guide ride about the attractions you can find. But seeing as you already picked up a map, you can either decide to ride the carousel or progress further into the park.” Shinobu spoke, waiting for either Itto or Gorou to choose.

“Well,” Gorou spoke up, looking towards Itto. “We could always go further in and see if maybe there is a rollercoaster that catches our eye. Or some other kind of ride.” Gorou remarked, looking up at Itto. “I’m sure that we won’t need anything to eat for a while since most rides can make me a bit squeamish.” Which wasn’t a lie for Ms. Hina. Sometimes Gorou had to take some specialized medicine if the road had a lot of curves in the road. It wasn’t enough to make the idol bedridden, but it was enough that he didn’t want to have any sort of accident on the bus.

“Whoa…..when he wears the wig, Gorou really looks like…” Itto was taken back by how a simple wig could make someone really look like Ms. Hina, that he almost didn’t hear what Gorou had said. “Oh! Yeah! Roller coaster!! Bring it on!!” Itto chimed up nervously, only to see Gorou smile at Itto’s nervous reaction. “Come on Itto, get yourself together!! Clearly this is lil’ dude, not Ms. Hina! But when he looked up at me….and with that wig….he’s too frickin’ cute!” Itto couldn’t help but feel his heart skip a beat at the thought of Gorou being cute. “Stupid! Stupid! Get your head in the game, man!”

“Rounding the bend you see two giant roller coasters to your right that seem to almost run parallel to each other. As the people ride by, you can hear the screams of people having fun on the roller coaster. The smell of various foods also fill your nostrils. To the left you have various other rides that are more safe than the roller coaster. Which would you like to choose?” Shinobu asked, looking at the map that was plastered on the divided screen in front of her, allowing her to visually see the sort of rides that the park has to offer.

“Well, do you want to go on a roller coaster or something else?” Gorou asked, tilting his head a bit while looking up at Itto. It seemed that the oni was having an internal battle with himself, seemingly distracted and not paying attention. Gorou glanced over at Shinobu who was becoming annoyed with the oni’s behavior. Normally when Itto got like this, it was because he was trying to weigh the pros and cons of something that usually had to deal with money, but this was different.

“Oh no, hopefully boss hasn’t figured out that Gorou is actually Ms. Hina.” Shinobu thought to herself. But could her idiot of a boss figure out that Ms. Hina was nothing more than a guy in a wig? Most people it would be a no-brainer, but considering that Itto couldn’t tell most of the time when he was getting ripped off from the start, Gorou’s secret should have been safe. “Hello, earth to Itto?” Shinobu spoke up, trying to get the oni’s attention. As she glanced towards the other gang members, Shinobu sighed as she picked up a dice. Tossing it at Itto’s head, the sound of the dice landing on the table seemed to bring the oni out of his trance like state. “Earth to Itto? Are you doing alright, boss?” Shinobu asked, seemingly concerned for the oni.

“Oh, sorry.” Itto apologized as he glanced towards Shinobu. “Where were we?” Itto mumbled to himself before looking at the map. “Oh yeah, roller coaster!” Itto quickly spoke up before moving the two pieces towards the one that had the twists and turns, though thankfully no loops. Gorou’s stomach started to churn a bit thinking how that would affect him when they actually went on the real date, but for now it was just up to his imagination on how the ride will play out.

“Before you get on the ride, I want you both to roll the dice to see how well you will handle the ride.” Shinobu remarked. It wasn’t like she would know first hand how either one of them would handle the ride itself, so she figured that the dice would decide how the end result would be. “If you get below a ten, you’ll have a bad time. But if you get over eleven and up you’ll be fine.” Shinobu explained, laying out the plan for Gorou.

With a soft sigh, Gorou took the dice that Shinobu had tossed at Itto’s head, and started to shake his hand. Closing his eyes as he tossed the dice on the table, the number that appeared on the dice was 17 . Peeking an eye open, Gorou let out a small sigh of relief as he was glad that the fates smiled down on him. “Better make sure to take the medicine before going on the date. I wouldn’t want to have some sort of accident in front of Itto.” Gorou mentally noted.

As Itto took the dice, the oni smirked as he started to shake his fist with the dice in his hand. With a small break to blow on the dice, Itto tossed the 20 sided dice on the table, having the number 6 land on the table. A small snicker could be heard from Shinobu and the other members of the gang, however Gorou felt a bit bad for the oni.

“Sorry boss, but it looks like fate decided to be mean to you.” Shinobu remarked after her snicker. “After you get off of the rollercoaster, your stomach took one too many turns. As a result, you end up holding your stomach as sweat starts to pour down your face. You look around to see if you can find the nearest restroom. Roll for a save.” Shinobu remarked as Itto appeared to be a bit flustered thinking that he could make some kind of embarrassing accident in front of Ms. Hina.

Grabbing the dice roughly, Itto starts to shake his hand. “So what do I need to save myself?” Itto asked, waiting for Shinobu to look at the sheet in order to save himself. If this date was going to head in this direction, then the very least Itto wanted to do was to prepare himself for anything that might happen.

“You need a five or higher. I’ll at least give you that.” Shinobu replied, giving a bit of leeway for the poor oni. With that, Itto released the dice, landing him on 10 , saving himself from having any sort of accident in front of Ms. Hina. With a sigh of relief, Itto laid his head back as if he was able to save himself from any further embarrassment. However, Shinobu had a little plan for something like this. Gorou was able to catch the glance that she gave the gang members, causing the idol to get a bit concerned.

“As Itto is relieving himself of his stomach contents, you find yourself alone on one of the park benches.” Shinobu starts to speak, causing Itto to sit up straight as if he was ready to fight. “You’re approached by a couple of guys who see a lovely young woman all by herself.” Shinobu continued before moving Gorou’s piece to a restaurant piece. Soon the three members moved their pieces towards the Ms. Hina piece, seemingly surrounding the piece on the board.

“Hey there pretty lady.” Mamoru spoke up first as he leaned against the table a bit. “What’s a pretty girl like you doing all alone at this big amusement park?” He continued, causing Gorou’s brows to knit together in annoyance.

“If you’re all alone, we can keep you company.” Genta remarked next, smirking a bit as he was just playing the role that Shinobu gave him. Sure they were going to piss off the boss, but this was just a tabletop game and it was to make sure that the boss knew the dangers if he let his anger get the best of him. It wasn’t like they could afford tickets to go to the park as well to keep an eye on the two.

“Yeah, we can totally show you a good time. Just the four of us. What do you say?” Akira chimed in next, though he did wince when he could see how angry the oni was starting to get. It was almost like Itto was ready and fired up to beat his own gang members up right there on the spot for thinking that they could talk this way to Ms. Hina. “Um, boss?” Akira spoke up with a concerned look on his face. “I-It’s just a role play boss. You know that we would never do anything to Ms. Hina, r-right?” Even though the gang members were simply doing their part, when Itto got angry, it was like his true oni side was coming out.

“Shinobu,” Itto spoke in an angry tone. “Do I have to roll anything in order to save Ms. Hina right now?” Itto didn’t even look towards Shinobu when he asked, his eyes were locked on to the three gang members in front of him. An intense aura seemingly surrounded the oni as he waited for Shinobu to speak.

With a sigh Shinobu stood up. Walking past Gorou, Shinobu stopped behind the oni before giving his horns a quick tug to make Itto look at her. “Calm down boss! I have three choices and you have to think about your actions.” Shinobu remarked, waiting for Itto’s gaze to relax. “I promise you, the guys would never do anything to hurt Ms. Hina.” Seeing the concerned look on Shinobu’s face caused Itto to relax. He knew that his gang would never hurt anyone unless they were defending people who couldn’t defend themselves, or they were trying to protect themselves. “But other people aren’t like us, boss. Other people are willing to hurt Ms. Hina. She’s a sought after celebrity that bad people want. We are here to protect her.” Shinobu continued, causing Itto to let out a shaky breath.

“You’re right…” Itto spoke, his body relaxed as Shinobu let go of his horns. “Sorry about that guys.” Itto apologized, causing the rest of the gang members to let out the breath that they were holding. “Alright, let’s get back to the tabletop.” Itto chimed, though his enthusiasm seemed to disappear a bit. “So, what are the choices, Shinobu?” Itto asked, waiting for Shinobu to take her seat back behind the small divider.

“Well, you could either straight up beat the three guys up.” Shinobu remarked, knowing that Itto would have picked that choice in a heartbeat. “However, they would result in the two of you getting kicked out. And if that happens, the media will be all over it and it will look bad for Ms. Hina.” Shinobu was quick to add that part in, causing Itto to stop himself from grabbing the piece to smash the three pieces away from Ms. Hina. “You could also not do anything, and who knows what they could do to Ms. Hina. They could even work for the people who tried to kidnap Ms. Hina at the signing.” Shinobu added, knowing that Itto wouldn’t just sit by and let something happen to Ms. Hina again. “Or, you could use your words to deter these guys from bothering Ms. Hina. But you have to be careful. You can’t simply threaten them, or become violent. You have to use a clear head to get these guys away from Ms. Hina since she is there in secret.”

Itto brought his hand up to his chin to think. What would be the best way to deter guys from trying to hit on a beautiful woman like Ms. Hina? If Itto mentioned that they were an item, wouldn’t that lead to a scandal? The oni could see the headlines now “Beautiful Idol Dating An Oni?!” It would completely ruin Ms. Hina’s image! Biting his lower lip, Itto figured that he should at least try to do something to protect Ms. Hina. “How about instead of fighting them and causing a scene, I simple grab Ms. Hina’s hand and run away from them?” Itto asked, figuring that if they were to run away, they could avoid causing a scene.

“If you get 11 or above, you’ll be able to get away from them successfully, but if you get 10 or below, you might have to think of a way to save Ms. Hina. Are you prepared for that?” Shinobu asked. If Itto was able to grab a hold of Ms. Hina, it would be no problem for the two of them to get away. After all, when it comes to running, Itto was the quickest. The only reason why the oni got caught was due to him sticking out in the crowd with his height and red horns.

“Alright, dice! Don’t fail me now!” Itto spoke as he took the dice. With a good couple of shakes, Itto tossed the dice on the board. His eyes shined brightly as he saw 19 on the table. “Boo-ya baby!!” Itto shouted excitedly, pumping up one of his fists in the air. “So, I grab Ms. Hina’s hand,” Itto started to speak before reaching his hand down to grab a hold of Gorou’s hand, taking Gorou by surprise. “And we start to run towards the inner part of the amusement park.” Itto started to speak, however Shinobu stopped him.

“Boss, before you continue, we have to make sure that the lovely Ms. Hina can even keep up with both your oni strength, but also speed.” Shinobu spoke up, glancing towards Gorou at this point. “So, let’s see if the fate of the dice will help you or hurt you.” She continued, a little smile landed on her face as Gorou used his free hand to roll the dice. Sadly it was a 9. With a sharp inhale, Shinobu sighs. “Even though you did your bests to try and rush Ms. Hina out of there, it seems that she has tripped, causing her ankle to swell.” Shinobu spoke, watching as the shock of the events reached Itto’s face.

“Wait! Have Ms. Hina to a save throw. If it’s high enough, I can just scoop Ms. Hina in my arms to get away.” Itto spoke, trying his best to save the moment. Even if this wasn’t real, it was still real to Itto. He would do anything to save Ms. Hina.

“Alright, but it has to be 11 or higher.” Shinobu remarked, watching as Gorou took the dice in his hand. With a quick shake of his wrist, Gorou tossed the dice onto the board, landing a natural 20. A smirk landed on Shinobu’s face as she saw how excited Itto was about being able to save Ms. Hina. “Good job Ms. Hina.” Shinobu remarked in a small teasing voice. “As Ms. Hina falls to the ground, the men are still chasing you. Instead of saving yourself, you pick up Ms. Hina in your arms and rush her towards the medical area.” Shinobu starts to describe the scenario. “When they examined her ankle, they noticed that it was just a small sprain and that it should heal in a couple of days. But they advise you that she can’t walk around on it. They offer you a wheelchair to help you two get back to the entrance.” Shinobu continued, seeing the wave of disappointment wash over Itto’s face. “If you do, that would be the end of your date. Do you want to use the wheelchair?” Shinobu asked, waiting for Itto to reply.

“Are you kidding me?” Itto asked, almost in disbelief. “Why would I want to end the date simply because of a sprain?” Itto continued, looking determined. “I’ll simply carry Ms. Hina in my arms if I have to.” Itto gave Gorou’s hand a quick squeeze before letting go. “I mean, come on! How heavy can Ms. Hina be?” Itto asked, getting up from his spot. Moving to be behind Gorou, the oni reached down to pick up Gorou with ease.

“Whoa!” Gorou exclaimed as he was picked up by the oni with ease. Being cradled in Itto’s arms reminded Gorou about the night he spent with the oni. The dream seemingly on repeat for a few seconds as he looked up at Itto. “I don’t think Ms. Hina would have a fun time if she was carried all the time. I mean, it would clearly draw attention.” Gorou remarked, trying his best to hide the faintest blush on his cheeks.

“Oh yeah…” Itto remarked, knowing that the point of this was to make sure that they didn’t bring much attention to them. Tilting his head and thinking, Itto had to come up with a way that they could still have a nice date, even though Ms. Hina was hurt. They only had the chance of riding a singular ride after all. “How about if I roll for the number of activities we can do? Will that be good enough?” Itto asked, figuring that they didn’t have to ride all the rides in order for the two of them to have a good time.

“If it’s over 10, the date will be over.” Shinobu remarked, watching as Itto sat back down with Gorou on his lap. With a quick shake of his wrist, Itto was able to roll a 6. “Alright, what 6 activities would you want to do?” Shinobu asked, watching as the oni started to think about what they could do.

“Well, I figure that one activity we could do is to head to the game corner. We can always try out luck there. Then we can head over towards where they have a bunch of gift shops. Then we can catch the evening show that they put on. Afterwards we can get something to eat since by then we’ll probably be starving.” Itto started to speak, figuring that those activities could take hours to do by themselves. “Then when the sun is starting to set, we can head to the ferris wheel before they do their big firework display.” Itto added, closing his eyes as he could already envision it. “I seat her towards the setting sun, that way she can still continue to shimmer despite everything that happened. As we reach the top, the ferris wheel comes to a stop. The night sky shimmering with stars.” Itto continued, seemingly in some sort of trance. “We talk about the date, and how I am so lucky to be able to take in this moment with her. As the fireworks start to light up the sky, I enjoy watching her face in awe as she enjoys the fireworks. Even pointing some out with such enthusiasm that it makes her eyes sparkle like a freshly polished gem.” Itto must have been dreaming about this moment for a long time to go into such details about it.

Hearing the way that Itto talked, and how serious he was taking this, Gorou could only hope that their real date will be much better than the tabletop game. “That sounds really nice…” Gorou trailed off, feeling his cheeks getting hotter as he could also envision it. However it would probably be Itto who would be the one to point out the different shaped fireworks. Just the thought of that happening caused Gorou to smile softly to himself.

“Last activity would be to head back towards the entrance. I’m sure by then her ride will be there, and they’ll be worried to see their idol having a sprain.” Itto finished, wanting the ferris wheel to be the last activity that they did for the night. It was romantic, and a way to make the date feel more real than just being a way to repay the oni for saving Ms. Hina. “I think that would be how we end the night.” Itto finished before lightly petting the top of Gorou’s head. “What do you think Ms. Hina? Did you enjoy the date?” Itto asked excitedly.

Gorou buried his face into his hands. His ears lined back as his tail softly wagged. Gorou didn’t want anyone to see how red his face had gotten, thinking about what Itto had just described what would happen in the ferris wheel. It wasn’t as if Itto wanted to kiss Ms. Hina, but the mood would be perfect to steal a kiss from the woman the oni was in love with. “It….was amazing…” Gorou finally remarked, though it was muffled from his face being buried in his hands. “It honestly sounds like the kind of date Ms. Hina would sing about.” Gorou added, removing his hands.

“Right? I think Ms. Hina would be impressed with how well I did.” Itto remarked in a triumphant tone. “So how did I do Shinobu? Perfect right?” Itto asked eagerly, wanting to know how well he did with the tabletop game. “Come on, how well did I do?” Itto asked, egging Shinobu on to give him his final score.

“Three out of five.” Shinobu spoke bluntly, putting the divider piece down.

“What?! Only three?!” Itto exclaimed, feeling insulted that she would give him a low number. “What gives Shinobu?!” Itto added, smacking the table, causing the dice to fly off somewhere.

“Because you got Ms. Hina hurt!” Shinobu quickly snapped, slamming her hands down on the table as well, causing the pieces to fall over. “You would have gotten a 4 if your idiocy didn’t get the beloved idol’s ankle to be sprained. Do you know what would happen? It would cause her whole schedule to be thrown into chaos! And you don’t want to be on Yae Miko’s bad side!” Shinobu continued, knowing first hand what happens when you cross a powerful woman like Yae.

As the two continued to bicker, Gorou took this chance to take the wig off of him. With a quick swish of his head, Gorou’s hair fell back into place. The other three members of the gang started to pick up the pieces of the game while Itto and Shinobu continued to argue over the rules and how Itto should have been a much higher number than three. With everything that had happened in the time that they took to play the made up tabletop game, it got Gorou wondering what will happen in just a day. Would their date be just as chaotic? Or will it be more calm and peaceful?

Notes:

Figured I would give you guys a nice little treat while I undergo my second (end of the first cycle) chemo session. I don't play D&D or any type of tabletop games, but I just winged it. Sorry to anyone who does and I am not doing it right, but I thought this would be a cute way to let the story roll out. I did use a dice roll on google and used the numbers to write around the story. Hope you enjoyed it!
