Chapter Text
The crowds of the famous Platform 9 3/4 (I don't know how to get the three quarter symbol on my laptop, terribly sorry) were saying their goodbyes and a teenager around fifteen with a red hoodie, messy brown hair and brown eyes, says bye to his dad and gets on the train with Scott, Isaac, Malia, Lydia, Allison and Kira. They go to a train compartment and Kira sits with Hufflepuffs, Derek, who is in his seventh year, went and sat with the Slytherins while Lydia and Isaac sit with the Ravenclaws.
"The first-years are going to board soon," Allison says.
"Oh great," Stiles groans.
They look out the window and see the first-years. They were short and full of hope and magic. They watch as the first-years say goodbye and they notice one wasn't with their parents. Or anyone, to be honest. They had their luggage and cat and someone comes and puts their luggage on the train. They seemed short. Around 4"3. They had an old satchel stuffed to the brim with books, pencils, papers and sketches. They had messy brown hair and brown eyes that seemed to have a faint red glow in them and they had pale skin and round glasses. The first-year was wearing a dark green shirt and black pants. They board the train, cat in their arms as if it was a baby, and the group of supernaturals look at each other.r
"Aren't you supposed to have a parent or guardian with you at the train station? Or at least someone over 18?"
"Yeah..."
The kid passes them and sits in the compartment next to them since it was empty. Stiles being Stiles, grabs his backpack and sits across from the kid.
"Hey. I'm Stiles Stilinski. You?"
The boy looks up and says quietly, "Louie." He had a faint Irish accent.
"Just Louie?"
A shadow of a smile appears on the boy's face. "Louie String."
He knew the String family was like. They weren't kind to anyone, gave no mercy, even if they were the most respected wizarding families ever. "Nice name, Louie String. What house do you want to be sorted in?"
"I don't know. Maybe Slytherin or Ravenclaw, my entire family is in those houses. What house are you in?"
"I'm in Hufflepuff with my friend Kira. My friends Malia Tate and Derek Hale are in Slytherin with Theo Raeken," Stiles comments. "And Isaac Lahey and Lydia Martin are in Ravenclaw. Allison Argent and Scott McCall are in Gryffindor."
Louie nods and Stiles looks at the orange tabby cat. "What's your cat's name?"
"Sunshine."
"Nice name."
Scott goes over and sits next to Louie. "Hey, I'm Scott McCall."
"Louie String. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, kid."
Sunshine sits on Scott's lap and Louie pulls out his sketchbook. Stiles watches the drawings he flips by and sees a werewolf, a sword, a snake, a cat (probably Sunshine), a boy and some runes. He also notices some scars on Louie's arms. Scott notices them as well and his face droops a little with sadness. Stiles instantly feels as if he had to protect the kid.
"You like to draw?" Stiles asks.
"Yeah, it's a good hobby."
Allison and Malia go over to the compartment and sit with the three.
"Hi, I'm Allison. This is Malia," Allison introduces.
"I'm Louie. Louie String."
"Nice to meet you Louie,"
"What's your cat's name?" Malia asks when Sunshine walks over to her.
"Sunshine."
Malia pets the cat and Sunshine purrs. Louie was wondering what was going on and why they were all in the same compartment as him. He didn't like people that much, but he think he'd make an exception for them since they seemed kinder than his old school 'friends'.
A group of second-years pass by them and see Louie. They gasp and go to their compartment and start gossiping with their friends.
"Louie String is here. Can you believe it?"
"Really? Oh my Merlin!"
"And guess what! He's sitting with some fifth-years."
Some others overhear this and try to glance at Louie while 'sneakily' passing by to go to the trolly. Louie keeps his head down and Stiles glares a little at the wizards, witches and wix that try to sneak a glance at Louie and Stiles passes him his hoodie so it would cover his face.
"I've got another one in my suitcase, it's alright."
Louie puts it on and puts the hood up so it covered his face. People were still trying to sneak a glance or look at him, but at least now they couldn't actually see him. When the train comes to a halt, Stiles, Scott, Malia and Allison get up. Allison, Malia and Scott leave but Stiles stays.
"This is when we get off so you first years go to your Sorting."
"Can you take Sunshine to the Great Hall?" Louie asks.
Stiles nods and picks Sunshine up. "Yeah, sure." Stiles looks at the kid. "If any of the other first-years say anything, don't listen to them. If it does bother you, just come tell me or any of my friends."
"Alright."
Stiles leaves the train and goes to the Great Hall with his friends. (They had all changed into their robes on the train). Louie looks at his school robes and the train starts moving again. When it stops this time, he gets off the train and follows a half-giant who said his name was Hagrid, to the castle.
When Louie sees the castle, he was amazed. It looked so much more magical and beautiful than it did in the photos. It looked as if it had been here since the beginning of time with it's old stone wall being held hostage by vines and the moss.
Louie gets off the boat and they go inside. They see a woman with grey hair and green eyes. She had a black pointy hat and was wearing green robes.
"I am Professor McGonagall, I teach Transfiguration and am Head Teacher of Gryffindor; one of the four houses," She starts. She looks from one student to another. "The other three houses are Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Once they are ready for you, you will be Sorted into a house. That house will be like your family. You can gain points by doing good in class and following the rules, and as easily as you can gain points, you can lose them for breaking the rules and doing badly in class."
Louie was a little scared by that but then McGonagall leaves the top of the stairs and goes into the Great Hall to see if they were ready. A boy with brown hair turns to Louie and asks, "Are you really Louie String?"
Louie nods. "I am."
The first years around him start to gossip and Louie just looks down at his shoes and McGonagall walks out of the Great Hall and turns to them. Everyone was silent.
"They're ready for you."
They go to the Great Hall and Louie spots Scott, Stiles, Malia, Allison and some other people he thought were Stiles' friends. Stiles was still holding Sunshine, and waves to Louie. Louie waves back and then goes to the front with the others. Louie sees three men sitting where then DADA, one was wearing a trenchcoat and had brown hair and blue eyes. The man next to him had long brown hair and greenish blueish brownish eyes. The third man had dark blonde hair and green eyes. They had three DADA teachers? Louie sees a man with a long white beard and a pointy hat. He looked kooky. McGonagall takes out a scroll and starts reading off the names.
"Mary Millers."
A girl with blonde hair and green eyes goes to the stool and sits down. "RAVENCLAW!" The Sorting Hat shouts.
Her school robes turn bronze and blue for Ravenclaw and she heads to the Ravenclaw table.
This goes on for a while.
"Thomas Nelson."
"Gryffindor!"
"Hillary Thames."
"Ravenclaw!"
"Louie String."
The Great Hall goes silent. Almost as quiet as the dead. Louie goes up and Stiles could tell he was anxious. He sits down on the stool and the hat is rested on his head.
Hmm. Another String? How interesting. You're not like your family, are you? No... you're different. Kind, brave, wise and... oh. I know where you should be."
Louie takes a deep breath in and the Sorting Hat yells, "HUFFLEPUFF!"
He lets the breath out and looks at his robes. They were the Hufflepuff colours. He dashes towards the Hufflepuff table and sits next to Stiles. After the Sorting, Dumbledore, the old kooky man Louie saw, stands up and says, "Before we eat, a few announcements."
Louie looks at Stiles who whispers, "Probably about forbidden sections of the castle."
He nods and they look at Dumbledore. "First, please welcome back your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester and Castiel."
Everyone claps and cheers and then Dumbledore silences them.
"Secondly, the Forbidden Forest is still forbidden. North Tower is still forbidden as well. Now, shall we feast?"
Food appears in front of them and Kira, who was sitting across them, passes Louie a piece of bread.
"The bread here is amazing."
Louie nods and takes small bites of it and Stiles notices he'd taken less food than the others. He nudges Louie and says, "You can take more if you want."
"I'm good. Ate on the train."
Stiles had only seen Louie split a sandwich with Malia on the train, so he decides he'd ask him about it later. Louie eats a little bit of his food and when he finished, Stiles asks if he wanted anymore food.
"No thanks."
After the feast, Louie takes Sunshine and follows Stiles and the others to their Common Room. Stiles leads Louie back to the group when he trails off and they get to the kitchens and go to Hufflepuff Common Room. It was warm and cozy, with yellow cushions on the couches and yellow knitted blankets. There were lanterns and large circle windows and plants everywhere.
"Boys dorms are on the right, girls on the left."
Louie follows Stiles to the boys dorms and it was like the common room. The beds had black and yellow blankets and there was a carpet with the Hufflepuff mascot. Louie sees his trunk by a twin bed and Sunshine goes over and sits in a basket on the desk next to it. He sits on his bed and after getting ready to go to sleep, he pulls the covers up to his chin and falls asleep. He hoped that this wasn't all a dream and he would wake up at home. He didn't want to go back there. Ever.
