Taketora's family was always pressuring him to find a girlfriend maybe that's the reason that he always tried extra hard to impress one and worry on how to talk to them.This year was going to be a bit different,his whole family was going to be coming home for Christmas and everyone was bringing someone,even his couxin who was two years younger than him was going to be bringing his girlfriend!Taketora had started to worry,he was the only single one and his mom had tell him that everyone was expecting him to bring his girl.
That's why the next day at school he was so distracted but no one seemed to notice or if they didn't they didn't say anything.In lunch he didn't say anything and instead went to the rooftop.He rested his arms on the railings looking down.He replayed his parent's words into his head
"You know that you're expected to bring your girlfriend,before you say anything I know that you have one so just tell her to come.I'm sure she's pretty if she caught your attention"
"Mom well I-"
"No excuses tell her to come and that's final"
What was he supposed to do now?He obviously didn't have a girlfriend since he was pining for almost a year for a curtain boy in his volleyball team.He felt someone tapping his shoulder snapping him out of his thoughts.He turned around and saw Shouhei Fukunaga,his best friend and crush.He was looking at him with a troubled look in his face slightly tilting his head to the right."So cute"Taketora thought.
"Hey dude why you're up here?"
Shouhei shrugged his shoulders and then pointed at him
"I'm just thinking about my family's expectations"
Shouhei kept looking at him with a puzzled face
"Everyone at the dinner table for Christmas will be bringing someone,well minus Akane and my really young cousins but I'm expected to do the same"
"But your single"
"That's the problem,what am I gonna do?I could find someone to fake date me.Do you think someone would agree to that?"
Shouhei shrugged his shoulders again
"I'm doomed"
Shouhei seemed to be a bit skeptical before he pointed at his self
"Huh?I don't understand you?"
"I... could"Shouhei said and averted his gaze to the floor
"You could what?"
"Fake date you,but you probably need a girlfriend"
"No no no!It would be perfect!But I can't do that to you,they would fire you with questions and I don't want you feeling uncomfortable"
"Tora it's fine I can do it"
"Shouheiiii this means so much to me!"Taketora said with tears in his eyes.He hugged Shouhei tightly and he actually felt him hugging him back.
So the preparations started,they went out more frequently and had a lot of fun together.They even went to an amusement park once and it was really cool!They took some pictures which they split in half,two of them going to Shouhei and the other two to Tora.They had even started to become more touchy,holding hands and hugging more.Tora even wrapped his arm around Shonei's waist once but he failed to notice the red on Shouhei's ears.
One day before the infamous dinner at Taketora's house they were sitting at Shouhei's bedroom talking about some details that they would have to know for each other when Taketora noticed that Shonei was getting distracted a lot.
"What are you thinking about?"Shouhei looked at him before he pointed to his lips and the at Taketora.He immediately picked up on what he meant."Oh that,well yeah probably my family would expect some kissing,come here"Shouhei was hesitant but he moved closer and sat directly across of him looking nervous.Taketora carefully placed his hand cupped Shouhei's cheek tilting his head a bit to the side before he leaned in closing the distance between them.Shouhei placed his arms to each of Taketora's shoulders and later moved the to his neck when Tora leaned more forwards.
When they parted both boys were red and none of them dared to speak.They stayed there looking at each other for maybe ten or fifteen or maybe twenty minutes before Taketora cleared his throat.
"I think that everything will be all right tomorrow,if you are having any second thoughts to it tell me and I immediately will call this off,you being comfortable is all that matters"
"Everything is fine"Shouhei replied with a small smile on his lips and Tora wanted to lean in and kiss him.
"Forgot to tell you,since your parents will not be in town for the holidays you can spent it at mine's"
"I appreciate that and sure I'll come stay with you"
"Amazing!I have to get going but I'll pick you up tomorrow okay?"Tora asked him before leaning to plant a kiss to Shouhei's cheek."See you tomorrow!"He yelled as he closed the door leaving a flustered Shouhei inside the room.
The next day came and bot boys dressed in nice clothes and Taketora left his house to go and pick Shouhei up.When he saw him outside of the door wearing a black turtle neck and some black ripped jeans his heart skipped a bit.He looked really handsome.
"You look beautiful"Taketora said and Shouhei's lips curved upwards into a small smile."Come on let's go.Just to let you know I haven't mention that I'm bringing you over but I don't think anyone will have a problem"Shouhei gives him a thumbs up and they start walking to Tora's.When they passed a park that the team usually hangs out Tora grabbed his hand and interlocked their fingers together.
They reached Taketora's house and he unlocked the door letting them in.After they removed their shoes they headed to the kitchen were his mom where.Shouhei was nervous about seeing his family,it wasn't like he didn't knew his parents he just have never met them as his (pretend) boyfriend but Tora's grip in his hand was giving him confidence.His mom was ecstatic to see him.
"Shouhei!"She said"It's good to see you again,Tora hunny why didn't you tell me that you were dating Shouhei?"
"Hello miss"Shouhei said with a smile on his face,that smile that had been driving Taketora crazy those past two weeks
"Sorry mom we just didn't want to make a fuss over it"
"You can both go inside,Tora introduce him to the ones that are here"Tora smiled when he saw Shouhei relaxing.He led them to the living room where his aunt and uncle with two of his younger cousins were sitting.They both greeted them with a smile and Tora's cousins run towards him.
"Toraaa!"They yelled in unison as he run and hugged him.Tora gave them a warm smile and picked the younger one up.
"Hey Shou"Akane greeted him and then focused back to her phone.
"Who's him?"The older one asked pointing at Shouhei
'"That's Shouhei and he's both my boyfriend and my best friend"Shouhei smiled and walked towards them waving.
"It's so nice to meet you"His uncle said and his aunt nodded.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well"
The rest of the family arrived soon and they all sat on the table together.Shouhei was next to Tora thankfully,Tora was worried that he was going to feel uncomfortable but he seemed to fit in perfectly in his family.Everyone was nice to him and didn't seem to mind that he didn't talk much.His younger cousin,the one that Tora had picked up earlier,seemed to like Shouhei a lot.Everything was going smoothly until his grandma decided to speak.She was the mother of his father and she lived away in Sendai so he didn't see her often.She banged her fists into the table making everyone turn towards her,Tora understood what was about to happen and he grabbed Shouhei's hand squeezing it.
"I don't understand why anyone isn't talking about that"She said as she pointed to Shouhei and Taketora."It's abnormal and disgusting and I'm ashamed to see that anyone else doesn't seemed bothered about it!But I am!"Tora felt the anger boiling inside him but Shouhei squeezing his arm made him calm down a bit.
"Mom,I don't see the problem here.Tora seems to be happy and that's what matters"
"If he wanted to be a disappointment at least he could have find a more social one"
Tora took a deep breath trying to calm his self and then spoke."Grandma with all due respect but you have no right in fusing over my personal life and please don't you ever again try to insult Shouhei again."
"I'm not insulting him I'm just saying that you could find someone better"
"Mom!"His father yelled.
"Grandma keep your opinion to yourself"
"Tora!"His mom yelled but he heard Shouhei try to muffle a laugh and his heart melted.
After that the diner table was quiet.People either ate in silence or talked with the person next to them.Tora didn't let go of his pretend partner's hand and he was happy to see that Shouhei didn't have any intentions of letting it go soon.When diner finished they all went and sat around the fireplace.His grandparents left and so did some of his uncles and cousins.The only ones left were his parents,Akane,Shouhei and Tora and his aunt and uncle with the two of his cousins that seemed to be really attached to Tora.The grownups were talking in the kitchen while they stayed in the living room and put on a movie.
Shouhei was curled up in Tora's arm who was playing with his hair making his eyelids heavier and heavier.
"Shouhei"Taketora whispered in his ear sending chills down his spine"Thank you for everything it means a lot to me"Shouhei didn't reply so Tora thought that he was asleep and placed a kiss on his head mumbling an another thank you and something that made Shouhei's heart beat faster."I love you"
After that Shouhei doesn't remember anything.He woke up in Tora's bed,he got up and saw Tora sleeping on the floor in a futon.He carefully got up and went to the bathroom to wash his face and bruh his teeth.He got out and noticed that Tora was awake so he approached him and sat next to him.
"Morning"Taketora said
"Good morning"
Tora sat across of him and brought his hands to cup Shouhei's face.He crushed their lips together in a soft kiss that sent butterflies to both of their stomachs.Shouhei's eyes widened at first because Tora wasn't obligated to do this when his family wasn't present but then he felt his self kissing back.Tora broke the kiss and pulled Shouhei to a hug.
"I'm sorry for my grandma yesterday"Shouhei didn't say anything instead he snuggled closer to Tora enjoying the heat that radiated from him."I want you to know that she'll be over tomorrow again but that's for us to worry later,would you like to go by that game that we had seen earlier this week?"Shouhei looked at him and his eyes had lighten up with joy and it made Tora's heart skip a beat.
They both got up and got dressed and then went down for breakfast.Tora's mother greeted them with a smile and asked them what they would like.They both reassured her that they were going to eat out and they went to leave before though Tora's mom pulled him inside the kitchen to talk to him.
"Hunny I wanted to ask you something,why didn't you tell us that you were gay?"
"Mom firstly I'm bi and secondly I was going to tell you but then Christmas came and I decided that bringing Shouhei over was a better idea,I'm sorry"
"It's fine,you two have fun!"She said as he handed him some money.
When they went outside of the house Tora wrapped his arm around Shouhei's waist pulling him closer to his self.The two boys reached the game shop and weren't surprised to see Kenma and Kuroo inside.They were both checking a game that Tora recognized as the one that they had played when the team had gone over to Kenma's last week.They approached their friends and they were happy to see them.Kuroo immediately noticed the hand around Shouhei's waist and waited until he left with Kenma to go and check out a new game that had just been released to point it out.
"So you and Fukunaga huh?"Kuroo said with a smirk in his face that could rival the one of the Cheshire's cat.
"Let me just explain the situation and seriously cap stop smiling like that I start to agree with Kenma that it's creepy"
On the other side of the store as the two boys were looking at the game Kenma decided to speak breaking the comfortable silence that was between them.
"I saw that Tora had his arm around you,I didn't know that you two were dating"
"We're not,not exactly.We're just pretending for his family"
"You like him,I saw it.You had that smile that you only give to him and you were looking at him like there was no one else around,just you two"Shouhei' cheeks flushed a deep red color and Kenma laughed.
"I do and that's not right"
"Why?"
"Because Tora doesn't like me back"
Kenma hummed and the continued looking at the game but Shouhei's mind went baxk to last night when Tora had told him that he loved him and his heart started beating faster.Back to Kuroo and Taketora,Kuroo had his mouth hanging open.He took a deep breath trying to comprehend those information and then he spoke.
"Wait wait wait you asked your crush-no wait your crush that you think doesn't like you back-offered to be your fake boyfriend in front of your whole family?And you still think that he doesn't reciprocate your feelings?How dense are you?"
"What do you mean Kuroo?"
"He knew that your whole family will be there,he knew that you'll kiss him and that you two will have to act like a couple and he still agreed.Dude he definitely likes you back!That plan of yours is so smart,I should use it on Kenma"
"Seriously it was to fool my family and to be honest the only ones that have not noticed that they like each other are you and Kenma,the team has a bet going on,of when the two of you will get together."
The two of them stopped their conversation when Kenma and Fukunaga walked to their aisle.Tora noticed that Shouhei was holding in his hands the game that they were looking for and he could see in the way that his face light up that he was happy.
"Come on I'll pay for it"Tora offered.He just couldn't resist the look of happiness on Shouhei's face.They bid their friends goodbye and then they went to the counter so Tora could pay and then they headed to a store that both of them enjoy.After that they went back at Tora's house were they sat with his parents watching a movie.Shouhei felt comfortable as he was leaning to Tora who had an arm wrapped around him.Once the movie ended the fake couple went up to Tora's room were they just sat at Tora's bed cuddled up as they were wrapped in his blanket.
"Tora what's going on?"Shouhei asked and it made the ace nervous.
"What do you mean?"Shouhei didn't reply instead he made a heart with his fingers and pointed at the two of them.Tora understood what he wanted to ask."Yes,I do have a crush on you but I promise that I'm not taking advantage of you through this situation,you mean a lot to me"Tora said,he took a look at Shouhei who had a smile on his face."Shouhei I understand if you hate me"
Shouhei shook his head and cupped Tora's face as he pulled him into a short kiss that made Tora melt inside.The rest of the holidays were full with kisses,dates,volleyball and lots of food.When they returned to school their teammates were happy for them and even though they got some looks of disgust in the hallways they didn't care because the only thing that mattered was them and their shared future.
