It's a Rainy after noon in Spiral Hill. And when I say rainy, I mean pouring down rain.
Tangle and Whisper dash down the sidewalk. Approaching Tangle's house.
Luckily they were wearing rain coats. But the rain has become far heavier than when they had left.
With a thud, the door bursts open as the two dash in and remove their rain jackets, and muddy shoes.
"Geez, the rain really picked up out there. Glad we got inside before it got worse," Tangle stretched, relieved to be inside. "Kinda ruined our fun early. Oh well."
Whisper smiled. "Maybe we can do something inside until the rain lightens up?"
"Yeah!" Tangle pumped her fist into the air. Very excitedly. "I just got the new DLC for Chao in Space: The Video Game! You'll lo-"
Tangle was abruptly cut off by by the sound of thunder, and then the sound and sight of the lights flickering, and then darkness.
"Powers out!" Melody's voice could be heard echoing from upstairs.
"I'll see if I can fix it," Ripple's voice came from the kitchen.
"Darn it!" Tangle crossed her arms with a disappointed look. "I jinxed it."
Whisper quietly chuckled, as the wisps came out of their capsules and illuminated the area with their colorful glows.
"So, what now?" Whisper curiously looked at Tangle.
"Hmm..." Tangle put her hand on her chin, and drifted her eyes away from Whisper. "Well, first off. I think there's a lantern in my closet. We should probably go grab that before anything else. Don't think your wisp buddies are the best source of light. No offense."
"Alright, let's go," Whisper gestured towards the vague outline of the stairs.
They walked up the stairs, and slowly creeped down the hallway, making sure not to trip or bump into anything.
Suddenly, Tangle stopped with a thud. Whisper bumping into her back due to the sudden stop the lemur made.
With a click, a light is now flashing in Tangle's eyes.
"Should watch where you're going, Slinky. You might just bump into someone in the dark," Melody teased Tangle.
"Moooommm..." Tangle groaned, trying not to smile.
"But seriously. You should go find a light," Melody looked around Tangle and waved at Whisper. "Hey, Whisper."
Whisper gently waved back. "H'lo."
Tangle and Whisper headed off to Tangle's room. The door creaked open, the room engulfed in shadows. Although, light still seeping into the room via Tangle's window. The heavy amount of clouds blocking most light, though. The wisps quickly danced around the room and to the closet, illuminating it slightly.
Tangle walked over and scrounged through the closet. The green wisp acting as a lamp for Tangle to be able to see.
"Found it! Tangle celebrated, pulling out the lantern and turning it on. "Brightness, oh how I missed you."
"Got the lamp, what now?" Whisper curiously asked.
"Hmm..." Tangle thought for a moment. "Well.. We could do board games, harass my parents, mess with random things around the house, or just chill out for a minute and relax."
"We always do stuff like adventure, or fight people like Eggman and Mimic. Why don't we just enjoy the peacefulness of the rain?" Whisper suggested, leaning towards Tangle.
"Sounds great!" Tangle wrapped her arms around Whisper and fell backwards, bringing them both onto the bed. Whisper laying on top of Tangle.
Tangle used her tail to cover them up with the blanket. Still holding Whisper tightly.
They stayed like that for around 10 to 20 seconds.
"Your eyes are beautiful, y'know?" Tangle smiled.
"Stop it, you're going to make me blush," Whisper giggled as her cheeks reddened.
"Looks like I already have," Tangle grinned.
Whisper's tail wags beneath the blanket. Tangle reaches for the band keeping Whisper's hair up, and removes it. Running her fingers through her hair with one hand and rubbing her back with the other. Whisper pressed her face into Tangle's chest fur.
Silence filled the room as they peacefully laid there... Silence soon to be broken.
"Tangle..?" Whisper looked towards Tangle.
"Hm?" Tangle curiously hummed.
"Do you think we're ever going to be happy one day..?" Whisper looked away from Tangle. "Like... Truly happy... No Mimic, no Eggman, no more fighting..?"
Tangle was taken aback by the sudden shift in tone.
"I... Uhh..." Tangle tried to piece together her thoughts into words.
Whisper realized her mistake and quickly corrected it. "I'm sorry, that was way too blunt."
"Y-Yeah, kinda..." Tangle stuttered. "But... Are you... Not happy now?"
Whisper eye flew open. "No, t-that's not what I meant! I just..." Her eyes slowly shut as she sighed. "It's just... There's always so much pain in my life... And I don't wanna lose you to it. Not to Mimic, not to Eggman... Not to anyone!"
Whisper wrapped her arms around Tangle and held onto her tightly, shoving her face into her chest fur once again.
"I- I don't wanna lose you again..." Whisper sniffled. Memories of the Metal Virus came back to Tangle, horrifying memories. "And I can't lose you again! I felt so afraid, so lost... I've lost everything time and time again.. And what if it happens again?"
Tangle laid there thinking of a response.
Tears swelled up in Whisper's eyes.
Tangle looked to see the wisps crowding around Whisper trying to make her feel better. That's when an idea struck Tangle.
"That's not true!" Tangle said as she grabbed the wisps and shoved them in Whisper's face. "You've always had your wisp pals with you! And now you have me!"
"I had the Diamond Cutters, but I lost them. I had you, and I nearly lost you to Mimic. And then I DID lose you! I lost you to the Metal Virus!" Whisper argued.
"But here I am, fine again! And no matter what, I ain't leaving again. Because "I love you" means you're never ever getting rid of me! And I love you a lot, which means no matter what, through hard times and good times, to the ends of the earth and for all time. I'll be right by your side no matter what!" Tangle told Whisper, expressing the unbreakable love she has for her.
"That's what I'm afraid of," Whisper held onto Tangle tightly. "You keep saying you'll be more careful, and each time I lose you."
"I know, and I'm sorry," Tangle apologized. "But we're here now. You can't push me away this time. And nothing bad will happen. Because I've never felt safer than with you. So I think that means to keep me safe, you need to stay real cost to me. And never get too far," Tangle jokingly says, hugging Whisper.
Whisper giggles. "You're so corny, y'know that?"
"What can I say? I'm a natural," Tangle grins.
Them and the wisps laid there. Letting the comfort of each other and the sound of the rain drift them off to a world of peace and tranquility.
After a few minutes. The wisps have fallen asleep. And Whisper lets out a sigh of relief.
"I know I've said it so many times that it's lost it's meaning, but. I love you so much," Whisper's body has melted into the softness that is Tangle's.
"Don't worry, it'll never lose it's meaning," Tangle smiles. "I love you too."
*SNIFFLE*
The two get shocked by the sound of a sniffle. Both looking over to see Ripple standing in the door frame.
"THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL," He smiled again, with watery eyes.
"H-How long have you been standing there?!" Tangle emergency asked.
"I DUNNO LIKE TEN TO TWENTY SECONDS..." Ripple over exaggerates more tears.
"A-Are you okay?" Whisper worriedly asks.
"LOVE ALWAYS MAKES ME TEAR UP," His face is red and covered in tears.
"He cried after Undyne and Alphys got together in Undertale..." Tangle told Whisper. (Also, if you've never played Undertale. Buy it now. It's like eleven dollars and is easily one of the best RPGs ever made.)
"What did you come in here for, though?" Tangle curiously asked, trying to get back on subject.
"Oh, yeah," Ripple wipes the last tear from his eye. "Me and Mel wanted to know if you wanted to play a board game or two?"
"Sure!" Tangle excitedly responded. "How bout you, Whisp?"
"Sounds fun," She pecked Tangle on the lips. They didn't look, but they could hear the sound of Ripple crying again.
The two continue to be affectionate towards each other.
"You guys are messing with me at this point!" Ripple runs back down the stairs.
Whisper and Tangle smile at each other and then burst out in laughter.
"Your father is priceless," Whisper giggled.
"Yep, he sure is," Tangle scratched her head.
The two got up and walked downstairs and had a great couple hours playing board games and telling stories.
Eventually the storm let up, and the power turned back on. And then it was time for Whisper to go back to her tent...
For all of 5 minutes as when she got there it was absolutely destroyed, soaking wet and it was like 7 PM now so it was also dark and freezing cold.
"I really need to get something better than a tent..." Whisper sighed as she dialed Tangle's number to see if she could spend the night.
