In this unknown world, where anyone can see the ill-lit skyscrapers that dominate the streets below was nothing but a mystery for Sora. Yet he landed here after he rescued Kairi by using the Power of Waking tremendously, which he decided to do in order to save his loved ones. No wonder he ended up in this lone city where he was surrounded by countless people, overwhelming buildings and the street lights that were scattered around.
Sora has been wandering through the midnight streets. The uproar in this city stunned him. Cars were steering around as fast as the wind. People were going to their destination on their own with their strenuous minds. Obviously, he was aware that he was lost and confused. From all of his adventures he had, he had never visited this world until now. Perhaps no one knows about this peculiar world except for him.
Prior to the time when he abused the Power of Waking in order to save his loved ones, Xehanort told him that there was a high price to pay to do such a prohibited act. Clearly, this is the consequence of his foolish action. He felt ashamed of himself. Sora just wanted to reunite with his beloved friends, yet he was all alone in this society where everything that surrounds him makes him feel small. He missed how he and his friends were hanging out in Destiny Islands and how they planned to leave and travel to other worlds. He missed competing in a race and sword fighting with Riku. He missed when Kairi asked him to do countless chores in order to build a raft. Despite all the misfortunes he encountered throughout his adventures in finding his friends. Sora was in deep nostalgia and desire to go home.
A wave of sadness hit his heart after reminiscing about his old life. The look in his eyes was desolated, just like the gloomy aura in this city. He gazed upon the sky and questioned, “What if I will never go back to my home and see my friends?” . He looked down as he started to believe that he would never go back to his home. His friends were the only people in his mind while wandering for so long. Regardless of what his friends are up to, he did nothing but yearn for them.
Sora blended in with the pedestrians crossing the lane with lingering sadness in his eyes. After he crossed over the lane, he didn't know where he would go next. Donald and Goofy are not beside him anymore to guide him. They are like his parents. He cannot figure out how to navigate in this place alone since his friends are not beside him. His only companion was himself.
While shaking with grief he observed his surroundings and thought which street he would go next. The incessant chat from people made him feel uneasy. Some stranger who was in a hurry accidentally bumped into him. Sora felt guilty for not noticing the guy and for being too dumbfounded. The random citizen apologized and left in haste. It seems he has no importance in this society and his heroism will be in no use. Sora looked at the top of the building, those tall buildings reminded him of the buildings from San Fransokyo where he could run freely on the walls. As an islander, this place made him feel out of place as he witnessed the turmoil going on in this city. He walked straight towards the illumination of the street lights while blending in.
There was one saying Yen Sid told him that he remembered fondly. “May your heart be your guiding key.” He suddenly remembered that phrase, however it’s impossible to follow that advice in his current situation. He has been wandering continually leading him nowhere. Sora realized he cannot uplift himself anymore, unlike how he uplifts his friends before. He was holding his eyes in such a way that kept the tears inside the lids.
Sora closed his eyes, and contemplated deeply, and remembered all of the adventures that he went through. He remembered what Donald told him during their first meeting. “No frowning, no sad face, ok? This boat runs on happy faces!” Tears streamed down his face, he missed how his friends poured him motivation every time he wanted to give up. His chest feels heavy with emotions. He cannot just follow his heart and find an escape route in this world alone. He may always be the optimistic type of person but due to his situation he felt defeated at the moment.
As he kept strolling, he found a bench and decided to sit down for a while. He felt tired since he had been walking around for hours in solitude. As he sat down, he felt a dull ache in his chest. However, he may be in a different world but he hasn’t perished yet, his devotion towards his friends is what encourages him to keep moving forward in this strange place. People may be only passing him through as if his existence never existed, but that devotion aids him to move forward no matter how lost he feels. Afterall, believing in his heart regardless of his helpless situation is what he's good at.
Of all the worlds he traveled, this was the only world that he felt an amount of bewilderment. He was nothing but a speck of dust. There was no Heartless, Nobodies nor Unversed around, eventually there was no threat going on. Sora was too perplexed to search for a possible threat.
Sora took his gummiphone from his pocket and turned it on. A wallpaper of him, Riku and Kairi appeared on his phone. He looked at them in a wistful manner and realized it has been so long since he saw his childhood best friends. He vowed to himself that he will find a way to get out of this place and one day, he will go back to Destiny Islands. He craves to spend his time with his friends again like they did together back in his hometown. At any second he would longed for his worst and glory days that he experienced during his journeys from other worlds. Sora realized those days weren’t that bad, they got through all the hard times using their unified strength and reliance in following their hearts. He wished the present would be like that today.
