King of My Heart

Summary:

Seishiro would do whatever Reo asked him to.

If Reo asked him to bark—

Pause.

‘Don’t you fucking finish that thought, smelly’ Is what the imaginary Barou in his head says, and for the first time, Seishiro agrees with him.

Or, Nagi is kind of an ass to other people, but not to Reo.

Notes:

Title inspired by Taylor Swift's song because nagireo are sososo TS coded and Reo is a swifty because I say so!

This is my first blue lock fic, I haven't written in a while and I wrote this is a rush because of certain things that happened. I just want to see Reo and Nagi be happy and in love, is that too much to ask for?

Also, this whole thing is pretty heavily inspired by that one twitter post that says Nagi fucking baby talks when he's around Reo.

The story is non-linear so just pretend that in the NEL they still share the same cafeteria lol

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Why do you look at him like that?”

Seishiro doesn’t look away, eyes still fixed on Reo as he discusses something with Prince across the room.

“Like what?” He replies.

The same voice, Chigiri he notes, lets out a scoff and hits his head with a little too much force.

“Ow” Seishiro says, pout forming on his lips.

“Why do you look at him like he’s the best thing since sliced bread?" Chigiri sounds beyond exhausted and Seishiro can't really blame him, Prince's training regiments were always a bitch.

What Seishiro doesn't realize is that Chigiri's exhaustion is only half from training and the other half a result of being relegated one of Blue Lock's relationship therapists. "Honestly, and just when I didn’t think your giant ass bug-eyes could get any bigger,”

“Hmm…”

Seishiro continues staring at Reo who somehow still hasn’t noticed. He contemplates Chigiri’s words for a moment and decides that it’s a no brainer.

Bread is good but “Reo is better than sliced bread.” He says firmly.

He can’t see the way Chigiri shoots him the biggest side-eye in the world, but he can feel it. Just like he can feel his heart flip when Reo laughs at something Prince tells him. Bright and dazzling, Seishiro can’t hear it from across the room but he can image it, soothing and melodious and with the slightest bit of mischief. The same laugh that comes at the expense of someone else, not enough for Reo to look like a jerk, but just teasing enough to rile someone up, the same laugh he aims at Seishiro when he pouts after getting his video games taken away, tongue poking out of his mouth in a joking way. Reo’s laugh is Seishiro’s favorite type of music— no, Reo's voice is Seishiro’s favorite type of music. When he speaks, when he laughs— God, when he sings? Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never-been-done-before. Seishiro can feel himself all but melt onto the table, sighing contently and not giving a shit that the noise next to him is probably Chigiri’s fake gagging at the sight of his massive “heart eyes.”

(Nagi Seishiro does not make heart eyes.

That’s what he says anyway.

Everyone else disagrees.)

When Chigiri quips out a quick “Gross," Seishiro is knocked out of his stupor and hums in annoyance.

Using what little energy he has left after Prince’s intense training he brings his hand to rest on the table and then slowly raises it up in front of where he thinks Chigiri’s face is and uncurls his middle finger from his fist to flip Chigiri off.

A dramatic gasp escapes Chigiri, “You’ve got to be kidding me,” he says.

An incredulous look paints his face, not that Seishiro can see it.

Seishiro yawns and responds a monotonous and quiet “fuck you,” that has Chigiri seething.

The red haired boy opens his mouth to respond but is cut off when a familiar head of purple hair comes into view.

“Reo!” Seishiro says, eyes widening again to stare, bug-like and shining.

Chigiri almost can't believe his eyes at the way Seishiro's previous look of mild irritation falls away in an instant, replaced instead with his self-proclaimed "not heart-eyes."

A soft laugh escapes Reo’s lips as he ruffles the mess of white hair.

“What’s going on?” Reo asks, finally taking note of Chigiri’s red face and annoyed expression.

“Nothing” Seishiro says.

“Nothing?” Chigiri’s eyes widen, irritation growing by the second as he looks at Nagi, who has finally shut his eyes in favor of relishing in Reo’s presence, looking content as ever with Reo’s fingers carding through his hair.

Chigiri’s eyes snap to Reo. “Your overgrown lap dog just flipped me off”

“What?” A confused look makes its way to Reo’s face, “No way, Nagi wouldn’t do something like that” he says as he looks down at the boy in question.

Seishiro opens his eyes and fixes Reo his best innocent puppy-dog look and pouts “Yeah. I wouldn’t do anything like that,” he says while leaning his head into Reo’s hand.

“You little—“ Chigiri starts.

He shuts his mouth immediately when Reo looks directly into his own eyes. He has a pleasant fake smile on his face, head tilted slightly to the side with a look that’s practically screaming at Chigiri, daring him, to finish his sentence.

“You little what?”

Chigiri clicks his tongue, deciding it’s not worth the trouble.

For a moment he wishes that heartbroken Reo was still here, dealing with Nagi and Reo on their own was “a fucking hassle” as the white haired boy liked to say, but the two of them together was insufferable. If Reo was still heartbroken then he wouldn’t have to deal with the two of them ganging up on him (he forgot how cheeky Reo could be when he’s happy). At the same time, if Reo was still heartbroken, he'd still be having to rub Reo's back as he listened to Taylor Swift on loop. He takes one last look at them as he's about to leave and throw his tray out. Reo looks so happy, and really, seeing Reo looks so happy is never a bad thing.

(Chigiri tries not to think about the sting of not being able to have something like theirs with a certain carrot-top hero).

He catches himself smiling at them and gags again.

Disgusting, sickening, realistically Reo could do so much better.

Chigiri finally leaves muttering something about “hating gay people.”

The best thing in the world?

Sleeping.

No wait, the best thing in the world is Reo.

.

.

.

And sleeping.

“Hmm… Sleeping with Reo,” Seishiro sighs, sinking his face in his arms and imagining that it was Reo’s lap instead.

He hears the sound of someone spitting their drink out and looks up to see Barou who’s sitting on the far end of the table, a vein practically popping out on his forehead, eyebrows knitted downwards and red-faced.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Barou sneers, “Keep your pervy thoughts to yourself, you stinky little troll.”

“Whaa…” is all Seishiro can respond.

Pervy? All he was thinking was that sleeping with Reo would be nice—

Wait.

Seishiro thinks he understands now.

That doesn’t change his mind though, in fact, it only makes him reaffirm his thought. After all, sleeping with Reo would be nice. In either context.

Still, he tries not to think about it too much. The cafeteria isn’t exactly an appropriate place to be thinking about how beautiful Reo would look underneath him, hair loose and sprawled out like a halo against his pillow, red-faced and—

“Fucking snap out of it,” Barou says, resisting the urge to go over and hit him in the head “I can practically hear your gross little fantasies.”

“Thinking about my fantasies? And you called me a perv…” Seishiro replies.

The grip Barou holds on his spoon is so tight, that it might just snap in half.

Seishiro is playing with fire and he knows it. It’s only a matter of time before Barou hits his limit and starts trying to kill him, but Seishiro can only bring himself to think about Reo. Said purple haired boy so nicely accompanied Seishiro to eat with him and went to get him food.

Reo is so nice, he always treats Seishiro like he’s the most important thing in the world, taking care of him, petting his head, giving him piggyback rides, and feeding him. Things had been a bit tense for a while, but now that they’ve made up, they were slowly going back to the way things were and Seishiro is thankful for it. He played it cool on the outside but he had missed Reo so much, Seishiro never wants to see Reo look so sad again.

With his head resting on the table and too absorbed in his thoughts, Seishiro doesn’t see Reo come back, but feels that his hand finds its way to Seishiro’s scalp, giving him a quick ruffle and then tugging at the strands lightly as if to say “pick your head up” and so Seishiro does exactly that.

Seishiro would do whatever Reo asked him to.

If Reo asked him to bark—

Pause.

‘Don’t you fucking finish that thought, smelly’ Is what the imaginary Barou in his head says, and for the first time ever, Seishiro agrees with him.

That’s a can of worms he’s not ready to open.

“Here you go, my treasure,” Reo says softly, placing a lemon tea and chocolate filled bread in front of Seishiro’s face.

When Seishiro makes no move to pick the bread up himself, Reo can’t help but sigh, ripping open the bag and holding the bread to Seishiro’s mouth, tapping it a couple of times before the white haired boy finally relents and opens his mouth to take small bites. Seishiro makes intense eye contact with Reo the entire time, staring at him with wide shining eyes as he takes the smallest bites possible to prolong the moment. Reo giggles softly, covering his mouth with his free hand and Seishiro’s heart flutters at the sight and sound, like the jingle of the sweetest bells.

Reo is so fucking cute that Seishiro might get a cavity. Or maybe he’ll get a cavity from eating too much chocolate filled bread.
Either way, Reo would take care of him, he’s certain.

If Barou’s irritated gaze is fixed on them then they both ignore it.

Reo considers Seishiro for a second with an hum and then brings his free hand closer and closer to Seishiro’s face and the white haired boy can feel the scene happen in slow motion.

The steady beat of his heart starts to pick up, eyes widening with anticipation.

‘Oh my God, it’s happening’

This is it.

Reo is gonna kiss him, he’s sure of it.

Closing his eyes and puckering his lips out just a bit, Seishiro thinks about how he’s never kissed anyone before, but this is how they do it in the shojo anime’s he’s watched in passing so he’s gonna take their word for it. Distantly, he can hear Barou choke in the background and Reo laugh lightly once again.

Finally, Reo’s warm hand is on his cheek, rubbing his thumb against the corner of his mouth and lingering just a bit too long.

Any second now, Reo is gonna take him by the chin and pull him forward and they’re gonna—

“You had some crumbs on your face Nagi.” He hears Reo say.

What? Crumbs?

“What…” Seishiro says, cracking an eye open to look at his partner from where he sits across from him, a gentle smile on his lips, cheek resting on his hand.

He opens his other eye in realization.

“Oh” is all he can muster, a pout forming.

‘I’m not getting my first kiss then… lame’

The two of them share a comfortable eye contact, until Reo breaks it first to grab the discarded plastic packaging that Seishiro’s choco bread came in.

“I’m gonna call it a day, how about you?” Reo asks, ruffling Seishiro’s hair again.

“Hmmm… bath,” is all he says in return, but Reo understands regardless.

“Okay, just remember to dry your hair this time. If you keep falling asleep with damp hair like that, you’ll sprout mushrooms,” Reo laughs.

Barou, on the other hand, gags so hard he almost loses his dinner.

“What the hell do you even see in this thing?” He says, “Raise your standards, damn it.”

From underneath the table, Seishiro kicks Barou’s leg with a considerable amount of force.

“Hey!—“

“Calm down would you? Nagi’s not even doing anything,” Reo scoffs, “he’s my treasure and that’s that!”

The furrow of Reo’s brow goes away as he casts his attention back on Seishiro, smiles at him, and says “I’ll see you later,” before throwing out their trash and walking out of the cafeteria.

Seishiro watches him leave every step of the way. What was that thing some people say? “I hate to see him leave, but I love watching her go?”

Yeah. Seishiro stares until Reo goes out of view.

He sighs.

“You two are disgusting.” Barou says.

“Didn’t ask, don’t care,” Seishiro replies while yawning.

Barou practically growls, “I swear to God, you’re like a fucking baby and he’s your mother!”

“Mmm… mommy,” Seishiro says jokingly. He’s not normally one to egg people on, it’s kind of a hassle, but Barou always gives a reaction so Seishiro really can’t help it.

“Fucking— You, you’re so—” Barou can’t even finish before Seishiro cuts in, making fun of him.

“When you- When you— Whennn,” Seishiro needs to make an escape soon.

“Ughhh, you’re fucking insufferable,” Is what Barou settles on, “Fix your fucking dandruff, asshole!”

“That’s what you decided on? Lame,” Seishiro decides it’s time to go.

He stands up slowly, stretching a bit and letting out another sigh. In a last minute decision, he leans over Barou while maintaining eye contact, eyes as wide as they can be; In the way that he knows unnerves and creeps Barou out. The older boy eyes him suspiciously, tensing his body and forming a fist, just in case.

In an instant, Seishiro shakes his head as hard as he can, white flecks falling down onto Barou and his food. Using Barou’s moment of absolute confusion and his last bit of energy, Seishiro makes a run for it towards the England stratum.

“I’m gonna fucking kill you!” And the sound of heavy running is all he hears as he runs to Reo.

Runs to safety.

Because Reo will take his word that he’s not at fault for angering Barou, all he has to do is give him a flutter of his lashes and Reo will be scolding Barou without question. (Even if he did technically instigate things).

And who knows, maybe if he plays his cards right, Reo will let him sleep in his bed.

Seishiro runs faster.

Seishiro worships the ground Reo walks on.

It’s only natural.

In fact, if Seishiro weren’t so adamant about not doing any physical movement beyond what was necessary and playing football, he would’ve built a church dedicated to singing praises to Reo. Or maybe a church where the music that’s constantly playing is the sound of Reo singing because that is truly what must be heard as one passes through those pearly gates.

And if Reo’s singing is a signifier of being in heaven, then Seishiro is there right now.

Ego so graciously gave them a week off in preparation for even more intense training once they return. (If Seishiro had any energy left, he’d roll his eyes so hard) The U-20 world cup is right around the corner, after all.

With their short break, some of the boys decided to get together and hang out. In all honesty, Seishiro would’ve preferred spending the week lazing around in his apartment with Reo there to keep him company just like they used to before entering football’s equivalent of the Squid Games. But alas, Reo being the social butterfly that he is, agreed to a karaoke meetup with Isagi, Bachira, and Chigiri and dragged Seishiro along with him. Seishiro didn’t put up a fight beyond his usual claims of it being a hassle, afterall, Seishiro didn’t mind having Reo drag him along places.

(Besides, Seishiro kind of liked Reo fussing over him and helping him get dressed, it’s cute the way Reo’s ears turn red at the sight of Seishiro’s naked upper body despite the fact that they've seen each other naked everytime they used the public baths in the Blue Lock facility, and he likes the feeling of satisfaction that comes with the knowledge that he can make the usually confident and charismatic boy stutter and blush).

“Wow, Reo-chan is really good at singing!” Bachira says, bouncing in his seat with a microphone in his hand.

“Yeah, his voice is incredible,” Isagi says, clapping along to the beat of the song.

Seishiro feels something akin to pride, sits up a bit straighter and nods his head approvingly at the compliments they send Reo.

‘Yes, praise him more! Reo’s amazing, isn’t he?'

“Reo is good at everything…” Is what Seishiro says.

His tone carries a lilt of excitement as he keeps his eyes on Reo.

Said boy finishes his song, a duet with Chigiri, and calls over to the others. “Come on, you guys, who else wants to sing?”

“My turn, my turn!” Bachira says with excitement.

“You just went before us,” Chigiri says. He turns to Nagi, “Hey, you haven’t sung a song yet. Come on, man” He walks closer trying to force his mic into Seishiro’s hand, but he refuses.

“Nagi, let’s sing a duet together too!” is what Reo says.

He looks excited, his eyes are wide and if it were brighter in their private karaoke room, Seishiro could probably see them sparkle. Silently, Seishiro praises that the room is dimly lit so that no one can see the way his face warms.

Seishiro loves Reo. He came to terms with it a while ago after a conversation with Chigiri.

But there are certain things even Seishiro couldn’t bring himself to do, and singing in front of everyone was one of them. It’s not that he’s particularly shy or has stage fright, it’s just awkward. Singing in front of Reo or singing with Reo while they’re alone is one thing, having to do that in front of other people is something else…

Maybe if he ever got the courage to confess, he’d take Reo on a date to karaoke and sing him a cheesy love song, but for now, he decides against it.

He shakes his head and avoids eye contact until Reo finally gives up and turns to Isagi.

“What about you, Isagi? Up for a song?” he smirks.

“Ah, I don’t know,” Isagi responds, scratching his cheek nervously, “I’m not all that confident in my singing abilities…”

“Let’s do a duet then! Just you and me,” Reo says, holding a hand out.

Seishiro watches as Isagi gingerly places his hand in Reo’s and lets himself be dragged to the center of the room where Reo hands him another mic. The dark haired boy is nervous, Seishiro can tell, whether it’s because he has to sing or because Reo is still holding onto his hand, he’s not too sure.

What he is sure of is that he doesn’t like how closely Isagi stands to Reo. Doesn’t like the way that Reo is trying to calm the other down by placing a hand on his back and rubbing comforting circles, and he definitely doesn’t like when Isagi finally finds some resolve that leaves Reo giggling and… and…

Ruffling Isagi’s hair.

Seishiro brings a hand up to his head and suddenly feels a wave of regret at turning down Reo’s request for a duet.

Because from where he sits, watching Reo and Isagi sing side by side, they look like they’re having so much fun.

Reo looks like he’s having so much fun. His mouth is pulled in a wide grin, so wide that his eyes are shut as he sings with utmost passion, hitting each note perfectly and next to him, Isagi has seemingly gotten over his nerves because he sings with just as much gusto.

And oh

Isagi wraps an arm around Reo’s shoulder and Reo does the same, the two of them swaying together and having the time of their lives. Seishiro feels a lump in his throat, but trying to swallow it down doesn’t help. He’s watching intensely, hands gripping his knees.

Reo is completely engrossed in his adlibs, not noticing the way Seishiro watches him.

But Isagi does.

Isagi notices because Isagi always notices and frankley, Isagi has played Seishro’s relationship therapist for so long that he’ll consider it a bit of revenge and a bit of trying to encourage Seishiro to finally confess to Reo when he looks back to smirk at Seishiro.

A look similar to the one he wears when he’s come up with an amazing play mid-game as he lowers his arm from Reo’s shoulder in favor of wrapping it around Reo’s slim waist and pulling him closer.

Seishiro understands the term "seeing red" because not only does he see it, he feels it, feels a wave of anger hit him like a truck.

Distantly, he can hear Bachira and Chigiri whoop and holler, whistling at Isagi’s boldness.

They elbow Seishiro in the ribs and finally, finally. The song is over and Isagi and Reo are left staring at each other before breaking out into a fit of laughter.

Seishiro lets out a hagared breath.

‘They’re still standing too close’ Seishiro thinks and before he can think to get up and push Isagi onto the fucking ground for touching Reo, Bachira comes to his rescue, jumping onto Isagi and making them both fall.

(The room is dimly lit, but he can feel Isagi’s embarrassment from where he sits, knowing that if the lights were on, he’d be looking like a cooked lobster with the way Bachira’s face is so close to his.

Because just as how Isagi had been subjected to Seishiro's romantic troubles, Seishiro also had to listen to Isagi's "Bachira sermons."

‘Hah, loser’ Seishiro mentally sticks his tongue out).

Reo sits down next to Seishiro and Seishiro takes it as his sign to throw himself across the other boy’s lap and start whining.

“Reooo…”

“What is it, treasure?”

“Tired.” Is all Seishiro has to say before Reo is pulling his phone out to call Ba-ya and giving the others a quick wave and explanation.

(What he doesn’t notice is the way Chigiri and Isagi smirk at Reo, teasing him. Though, he does hear a faint “whipped”)

“Ba-ya is almost here, I’m gonna go out and pay the tab first, but come out when you’re ready,” Reo says to Seishiro, gently lifting his head off of his lap so he can stand.

Nodding his head in response, Seishiro immediately misses the feeling of laying his head on Reo’s lap.

Once Reo has left the room, Seishiro sits up slowly and glares tiredly at Isagi.

Carefully, he moves to stand and walks up to the dark haired boy, who is simply looking at him with a confused expression, not at all aware that he encroached a little too closely into Reo's personal space for Seishiro's liking. Seishiro raises his hand, clenches it into a fist, and then brings it down to land on Isagi’s head. Not hard enough to cause actual damage, but not light enough to be mistaken for something friendly, he mutters a simple “Asshole.” and walks out the door ignoring Chigiri and Bachira’s howling laughter and Isagi's flabbergasted expression.

When they get back to Seishiro’s apartment, he’ll make Reo sing him a song.

Yeah.

That sounds nice.

“Be fucking for real,” Chigiri says as he looks at Seishiro with disbelief, “You can not be serious.”

“What?” Reo asks in confusion, but he doesn't turn away from where he’s wiping Seishiro’s nose with one of those fancy, ultra soft tissues.

Only the best for his treasure.

“Calm down, missy, I just sneezed is all,” Seishiro says.

“Shut up, that’s not what I meant.” Chigiri bites back.

“Didn’t take you for a germaphobe, princess. Stealing Barou’s brand?” Seishiro goes back to his game.

Reo, on the other hand, crumples the tissue up and throws it in the trash.

“I'm gonna go take a bath, you guys, don't kill each other.” Reo says, he gathers his clothes and walks out the room.\

Silence.

Almost silence, if not for the sound of Seishiro’s shooter game. But it’s not comfortable silence like it usually is, he can feel Chigiri staring at him and honestly, it’s kind of distracting.

“I’m a taken man,” Seishiro says

Chigiri sputters, “Taken man? Taken man, my ass. I know you and Reo aren’t together.”

“My heart belongs to someone else, sorry.”

“I’m not— I don’t, Ugh” Chigiri wants to pull his hair out, “I’m not trying to tell you that I like you, dumbass. I don’t want you, I don’t even know why Reo wants you!— Shit-”

The phone Seishiro was previously holding in his hand falls on his face and then tumbles right onto the floor. His head snaps to Chigiri.

“Reo wants me?” He says with wide eyes.

Chigiri looks like he wants the Earth to swallow him whole. He looks conflicted, avoiding eye contact and seemingly in deep thought. One the one hand, Reo might kill him if he finds out he spilled the metaphorical beans to his partner/crush/treasure/”absolutely, truly, the one and only love of my life” (Reo’s words, not his), on the other hand, maybe this will give Nagi the final push to actually tell Reo how he feels about him instead of staring at him like he hung the stars in the sky and following him around like a lost puppy and just waiting for Reo to get the clue.

“Don’t worry about it,” Is what he decides, besides, “That’s not what I wanted to say,”

Seishiro looks at him curiously, but says nothing. Chigiri takes it as his sign to continue.

Remembering his reason for starting the conversation, Chigiri can feel the irritation begin to grow.

“What the fuck was that?”

Nothing, no change in expression (not that Chigiri would be able to tell if it did), Seishiro looks at him completely lost.

“Your sneeze?”

Not a word.

“Nagi, You don’t sneeze like that and I know it,” he points an accusatory finger at Seishiro.

A look of realization crosses Seishiro’s face and his eyes widen just a fraction before returning to how they were before. He looks away, hand going to rub his neck— a nervous habit, Reo had told Chigiri— and just the slightest flush on his face. The white haired boy opens his mouth and closes it a couple of times and Chigiri finally decides to throw him a bone.

“Nagi, you have the world’s loudest, most horrendous, messiest dad sneeze in the history of ever. I know it, Barou and Isagi know it, now tell me why the hell you sneezed like a fucking fairy just now when Reo was around.”

“...”

“Don’t tell me you—” the realization finally hits Chigiri and he starts laughing, clutching his stomach and trying not to fall over.

“Shut up!”

“HAHAHA— no fucking way-”

“Stop talking” Seishiro grumbles, face growing visibly red.

“Oh my god, I have to tell everyone–”

A pillow hits Chigiri straight in the face, and not lightly either.

When his shock passes, Chigiri looks at Seishiro and smiles. “I can’t believe you change the way you sneeze around Reo, you’re such a fucking baby,”

Seishiro doesn’t respond, simply looks away with a pout.

A couple of seconds pass, less uncomfortable this time but with something still hanging in the air. Chigiri continues to look at Nagi, with less mischief and more sympathy this time, while Nagi looks down on his lap.

Seishiro looks up hesitantly before saying “Don’t tell him please.”

Chigiri sighs, “I won’t, promise. Just…” Chigiri pauses, “Don’t tell Reo that I told you that he likes you.”

“...” Seishiro sighs. “I won’t”

The conversation dies out and the two go back to what they were doing previously, or rather, Chigiri went back to what he was doing, Seishiro lied down in his bed, his thoughts swirling around in his mind.

‘Reo likes me…’

Seishiro is tired and he doesn’t want to think, so instead he closes his eyes and levels his breathing waiting for sleep to overcome him.

He starts to drift and for a second he thinks he hears the smooth voice of the purple-haired boy that he loves so much (yes, loves , Seishiro is certain of that)

and it pulls him to sleep along with the gentle hand that runs through his hair.

( “Sleep well, treasure”

“Just kiss him to sleep at this point,”

“Shut up, Chi” )

Seishiro dreams of lilac tinted sunsets in the summertime.

When he wakes up, it takes him a moment to realize that he’s not dreaming.

Because Reo is in his bed looking absolutely ethereal. There’s a goddamn angel in his arms, warm and soft and— fuck, how Reo manages to make the 15-in-one Blue Lock issue shampoo smell so good and luxurious is beyond him.

The boy in his arms stirs slightly and Seishiro holds his breath, hoping and praying that he doesn’t wake up because he’s afraid that if Reo were to wake up now, he might just apologize and go back to his own bed and Seishiro really, really, just wants to keep Reo in his arms as long as possible. They haven’t slept in the same bed since, since—

(The first selection)

Seishiro shakes his head, he doesn't want to think about that right now. They’re back together now and Reo is as affectionate as ever, but there’s always a bit of hesitation that makes Seishiro’s heart ache in the worst way imaginable.

Reo stills and Seishiro lets out his breath, adjusting his position just a little bit and holding onto Reo just a little bit tighter.

‘I love you,’

He wants to say those words so badly.

The look that Reo’s sleeping face wears is serene. Completely relaxed and at peace, his breaths are even, and his pretty lips are parted open ever so slightly and Seishiro uses everything in his power to not kiss him, because that would be a creepy jerk move. A couple of strands of hair fall across his face and Seishiro brings a hand to brush them gently away, tucking them behind Reo’s ear.

“I love you,” he whispers, his voice shaking.

He doesn’t mean to say it out loud, but it comes out anyway and despite his nervousness it feels simultaneously like the most natural thing in the world and like a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders.

An honest truth: the sky is blue, the Earth is round, Mikage Reo is incredible and perfect and beautiful and Nagi Seishiro is terribly, wonderfully, irrevocably in love with him.

“I love you so much.” He says again, louder this time, steady and confident.

He receives no response.

Letting his eyes fall close again, Seishiro decides that for now at least, this is enough. Having Reo in his life is enough and he knows that one day being just his friend, his football partner, won’t be enough, but he’ll leave those thoughts for another day. For now, he’ll let the sound of Reo’s steadily beating heart whisk him away to his dreams.
