Work Text:

Katsuki had always been the life of the party. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with his infectious energy and his mischievous grin. So when his birthday rolled around, it was no surprise that his friends and family wanted to throw him a surprise party.

Izuku, Katsuki's mate, had been hard at work all day setting up the decorations and making sure everything was perfect for Katsuki's big day. He had been so focused on the party preparations that he didn't even notice the missed calls and messages from his phone.

It wasn't until later that night, when Katsuki still hadn't shown up, that Izuku began to worry. He tried calling Katsuki again, but there was no answer. As the hours ticked by, Izuku's anxiety grew. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Finally, late into the night, there was a knock at the door. Izuku rushed to answer it, his heart pounding with anticipation. But it wasn't Katsuki standing on the other side of the door. It was one of Katsuki's friends, looking solemn and sad.

Izuku felt a cold dread settle in the pit of his stomach as he listened to the terrible news. Katsuki had died earlier that day, unexpectedly, leaving behind his pregnant mate and all of his loved ones.

In the days and weeks that followed, Izuku was in a daze. He couldn't believe that Katsuki was really gone. He felt numb and disconnected from the world around him, unable to process his grief.

It wasn't until Katsuki's funeral that the reality of the situation hit him. As he watched his mate's body being lowered into the ground, Izuku felt a tidal wave of emotion crash over him. He sobbed uncontrollably, clutching at Katsuki's jacket as if it could bring him back to life.

The weeks and months that followed were a blur of sadness and pain for Izuku. He struggled to come to terms with Katsuki's death, but he knew that he had to be strong for their unborn child.

As time went on, Izuku found small ways to honor Katsuki's memory. He would light a candle on Katsuki's birthday, or make a special meal that Katsuki loved. And he would always tell their child stories about their amazing father, who had left the world far too soon.

Though Katsuki was gone, his memory lived on in the hearts of those who loved him. And Izuku knew that Katsuki was watching over them, even from beyond the grave.
