Chapter Text
Sunlight filters through the thick glass of the elevator’s windows, warm as the sweetest hug as it shone down on Hinata. He feels warm on the inside too; today is a special day! It’s not often where he has a completely free schedule on the same day Yuuta does, so they had been planning this day for a while now.
Ever since their Love Letter live, they’ve been closer than ever. It scares Hinata a little, if he’s being honest; something he’s been doing a lot more lately. Before their Twin Peaks competition, Yuuta had told him that being together felt like working overtime, and though he laughed, it stung all the same.
They’re past that though, which is why right now is a crucial moment; he can’t afford to disappoint Yuuta! What if things go back to how they were before? To feel as happy as he does now, only for it to be ripped away again, slipping through his desperate grasp as if he never truly had a right to this happiness in the beginning… It’s too cruel to think about.
Which is why Hinata won’t! Not when the sun smiles with him, and not when Yuuta’s still right beside him. The thought sent a new wave of excitement crashing over him, and like a giddy child on Christmas eve who can’t help but sneak a peek at the gifts, Hinata can’t help but turn his gaze from the elevator window to peek at Yuuta.
Yuuta was only just ahead of him in the elevator, watching the floor number rise as they got closer to their stop. He must have sensed Hinata’s gaze, because almost immediately, he returns it, causing a smile to break out on both their faces at the same time. Yup, today is really special! And then, right on time:
Ding!
The elevator chimes and the door opens at their stop. With a polite “Excuse me, please!” from Yuuta, other occupants moved out of the way, letting the twins through.
When they’re out, neither of them have to stop to check for directions as they make their way to somewhere they’ve been dozens of times before: the music shop. You see, there’s a new album that was released yesterday from one of their favorite bands, and having a physical copy of it would be oh so cool.
It didn't take the two much time to arrive at the store, and just as they had hoped, there were still some copies of the album left, the beautiful album art and great tracklist making them excited to get home and listen.
However, something else in the store quickly catches Hinata’s eye: there, on the opposite side of the shop, sat a 2wink display!
“Oh my god, Yuuta-kun! Do you see that…!”
It seems Hinata didn’t even need to point it out, because when he looks over, he sees that Yuuta was already staring at it. “Yeah, I do,” he simply responds.
The two walk over to get a closer look. It was a relatively small display, consisting of two cardboard cutouts, one of each twin from the bust upwards, with a colorful board at the back informing the reader of a special promotion sale for 2wink albums, which were located on a nearby shelf. Then, below the board sat a tray of tin badges, each one showcasing one of the twins.
Hinata picked up one of the Yuuta pins. It was a picture of him winking and smiling, looking mischievous as ever, but also, so cute! It totally captures the 2wink charm. As the lights reflect on the pin, he can even see triangular patterns sparkling on the badge as he moves it around. There’s no other way to say it: it’s perfect.
That's why Hinata doesn’t think before he exclaims, “I’ve gotta get it!”
Immediately, Yuuta looks towards Hinata, confused. “Huh? You wanna buy merch of me? Why?” He pauses, then a small laugh comes out in a huff, perhaps at Hinata’s seemingly ridiculous proposal. “This is like, stuff for fans, isn’t it?”
Hinata can only give a big grin in return. “Perfect for me, then! I’m Yuuta-kun’s number one fan!”
Hinata expected to be met with an expression that he could only describe as ‘ugh’, but much to Hinata’s delight, Yuuta decides to play along.
“Hmm, I see. Thanks for supporting me! Do you want my autograph, too?”
Without missing a beat, Hinata gasps loudly, bringing his hands to his face as though to cover a make-believe blush. The album in his hands made it lose effect slightly as he had to wiggle it out of the way of covering his whole face, but the show must go on! “Kyaaa! I’m so honored! Can you address it to Aoi Hinata?”
Yuuta nods, his best fan service smile on, charming yet cute, just as they had practiced it. Then, it hit Hinata, neither of them have a pen or paper on them right now; what could his favorite idol even sign in this once in a lifetime encounter? Thinking quickly, Hinata quickly took out his phone, opened up the notes app, and passed it over.
Yuuta raised an eyebrow, but quickly caught on, maintaining his professional quality smile as he wrote something in Hinata’s phone. This was all a joke, but Hinata couldn’t help but feel a little excited anyway; this must be how real fans feel. He could understand people like Aira, now. This was so exhilarating! Yuuta’s smile wasn’t giving away what he was writing either, and frankly, Hinata was just itching to see it. He was sure to make a mental note to learn how to write faster for the next time he did a fan signing.
Before long, Yuuta finishes, handing the phone back.
To Aoi Hinata,
Imagine if the Joker could beatbox.
Aoi Yuuta ~☆~
Oh god, of all things, Hinata wasn’t expecting a reference to an online joke the two of them like. It was like a gut punch, knocking the wind out of him, but in the best way possible. Immediately, Hinata broke out into a laugh, full chested and joyful, leaving him gasping for air in between each fresh peel of laughter. It didn’t take long for Yuuta’s act to crumble too, joining Hinata in his laughter.
When it seemed like they were beginning to calm down, Hinata attempted to make beatboxing noises, though it only served as fuel to the fire, his attempts getting cut off abruptly by another round of laughter before they could really resemble anything melodic rather than a few awkward mouth noises.
Energetic highs don’t last forever though, and eventually, they begin to calm down again. He sighed, basking in the feeling. Of course, Hinata enjoyed the calm down periods just as much as the highs. It’s bliss, it’s the warm comfort in knowing that you shared a joyful moment with a loved one, it’s like a hand-knitted scarf, like a carpel of mandarin in the hand.
Yuuta is still smiling when he asks, “Hey, were you serious about buying that pin?”
Without a doubt! It was so cute, and he meant it when he said he’s Yuuta’s number one fan. But after that little joke they just did together, it now also had an extra meaning: it would mean the world to him if he had something to remember their visit to the music store by.
Though, Hinata doesn’t say all that, instead opting for simply: “Of course!”
That prompts Yuuta to reach into the tray too, fishing out one of the Hinata pins. In the picture on the badge, he looks just as mischievous as Yuuta, the pin sparkling with a similar triangular pattern. “I had better get one of you too, then,” he says, holding it up to his chest to see how it would look with his outfit.
Hinata begins to panic slightly. Had he somehow pressured Yuuta into getting a pin, too? He should have known, it’s so awkward for only one of them to want to buy a pin of the other! Ugh, way to go, Hinata, ruining a perfectly good moment. Then, he realizes with frustration that normally, he wouldn’t even be worrying about this. The pressure of making sure this day goes perfectly is getting to him, he supposes.
He tries to keep cool though, doing his best to maintain a light tone. “Hey, you don’t have to do it, too! I’m only buying one cause I wanted to.”
Yuuta pauses from adjusting the pin, looking back at Hinata with a questioning smile, as if to challenge him. “What? I’m not allowed to be a fan of Aniki, too?”
That wasn’t what Hinata expected to hear at all. So for the second time that day, Hinata gasped, and this time, it was real, a new surge of happiness flooding through him. “Does-” he stutters, “Does Yuuta-kun really mean that?”
Yuuta nods in return, and as soon as he does, Hinata can’t resist the urge to pounce on him, trapping him in one of the tightest hugs ever known to man.
“Waaaa! I’m so happy!” He squeals, his voice slightly muffled as he presses his face against Yuuta’s clothing.
To top it all off, a sweet cherry on Hinata’s sundae, Yuuta gives him a small hug back! Well, as best as he could with his arms pinned to his sides under Hinata’s hug, but it’s the sentiment.
After Hinata finally lets him out of the hug, it doesn’t take them long to pay for their items. Now, with the album safely in Hinata’s bag and their matching pins displayed proudly on their shirts, they were ready to move onto the next thing they had their eye on: the roller skating rink!
