Taurtis knew it would have to happen at some point, he just didn't think it would happen so soon.
Grian had a stuffed bear that he took everywhere with him, he refused to let it out of his sight. Everytime he slept, it was cuddled up in his arms.
Naturally, with this stuffie being dragged everywhere with him, it was only logical that it would need to get cleaned at some point.
Taurtis just didn't know it would come to this so quickly. He had been wiping off the bear every now and then with some baby wipes, surface cleaning it whenever he could.
He tried his best to keep it clean, even managing to convince Grian to let his bear sit in a different chair while he ate.
Yet, the inevitable happened. Grian spilled milk on his bear last night, and now it had to be washed properly. No baby wipes or anything. No, it needed to go into the washing machine.
Grian nearly started sobbing at the news, looking up at Taurtis with watery eyes and a wobbly bottom lip.
Of course the day his bear needed to be washed was the day Grian had regressed smaller than Taurtis had ever seen before.
While Grian was usually around a toddler-like mentality, it seemed that today he was closer to a proper baby-like state. Not that Taurtis minded, he wasn't upset or anything.
It just meant that he'd have a weepy baby for a few hours.
"It'll be okay, Gri. The sooner we put him in the washing machine, the sooner he'll be all clean and fluffy for you!"
Grian was holding onto his bear as tightly as he could, Taurtis had no chance of getting it from him easily.
Tears were streaming down his face and he was shaking as he shouted at Taurtis.
"Washer machine gonna hurt him!! Not safe!"
Taurtis sighed, taking a step back.
He then sat down on the floor in front of Grian, holding out his arms. "Come here."
Grian nearly knocked Taurtis over with how quickly he dove into his arms.
"You know how Sam loves Mr. Snugglemuffins?"
Grian nodded into Taurtis's chest, sniffing as he held his bear tight.
"He wouldn't let Mr. Snugglemuffins get hurt, would he?"
Grian shook his head. Sam loves Mr. Snugglemuffins, he would never ever let Mr. Snugglemuffins get hurt.
"Did you know, that Sam has put Mr. Snugglemuffins in the washing machine lots of times?"
Grian looked up at Taurtis through watery eyes.
"Lots?"
Taurtis nodded. "Mhm! Tons of times! It's like a nice bath!"
"Baf for teddy?"
"Mhm! Do you wanna help me put him in?"
Grian stood up, wobbling slightly.
Baths were nice. His teddy would love a nice bubble bath, Grian knew he liked them, so Teddy probably would as well.
"Clean."
Taurtis helped Grian put his teddy in the washing machine, putting a few blankets in as well.
Grian was excited now, Taurtis was letting him pour the soap in. That was a big responsibility, he couldn't let Taurtis down. He was super careful, making sure not to spill a single drop as he poured the soap in.
"Good job, Grian!" Grian beamed at the praise.
He waved bye-bye to Teddy, watching as Taurtis closed the machine and pressed a bunch of buttons.
Grian snuggled close on the couch with Taurtis, a cartoon was playing on the tv, but Grian wasn't paying much attention.
He was waiting anxiously, listening for the ding of the washing machine to sound out.
After an agonizingly long wait, (around 30 minutes), Grian heard the little jingle coming from the washing machine.
He jumped up, racing towards the washing machine and pulling the door open, ignoring how Taurtis was shouting for him to wait.
Digging around in the sopping wet blankets, Grian found his prize.
His teddy was okay!
He gave it a big hug, grimacing slightly when water dripped down, soaking his shirt and the floor beneath him.
"He still has to dry, bud. Just a few more minutes."
Teddy survived the washing machine, which was all that mattered to Grian. After one last hug, he relinquished his bear to Taurtis, waving bye-bye one more time as his bear got tossed into the dryer.
