Work Text:
Another day, another court trial. Kay knew that Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth is away yet that won't stop her from entering his locked office.
She suspected that he might have already known by now that she somehow breaks inside his workplace. Even if her gloved hands left no fingerprints as she lockpicks his door, she knew not to underestimate him. Still, she makes sure to clean up whatever mess she might have made in her many visits (sometimes with the help of Detective Gumshoe if he's around). Great thieves leave no traces, after all.
Perhaps this was an unspoken game to her. A training ground of sorts… Where it's game over when he finally calls her out on it. Or she simply liked to lounge in his very fancy office in her free time and spin on his swivel chair.
Sitting on it is like a throne to her. A throne she stole on a daily basis. He always had it placed in a specific way so she had no problem making it seem untouched after spinning and riding around the office with it. She even made sure the lever that adjusts its height is positioned correctly.
Speaking of height adjustments, she had not actually tried this feature before. And so she did.
She pulled the lever up and the seat rose up. It was a simple movement yet she felt the joy of a child all the same. She wanted to do it again.
There's only the simple problem of being unable to bring the chair back to its original height. "Uh oh," she thought.
It appears that her weight was not enough to activate the height-altering mechanism. She attempted to shake and bounce on the swivel chair, with no luck. It was still stuck.
She had to call Gummy for help.
After calling his number, she presses her phone in her ear "Gummy! I need help. Where are you?"
"Oh hey pal, I'm with Mr. Edgeworth right now. Don't worry, we've just finished and we're just about to head back to the office! We can meet up there."
"Oh uh.. Nevermind! How's the trial?" she asked while looking around the Prosecutor's office for anything that might help her situation. Desperate, she peeped outside the door for anything, a heavy pot of plant or a slightly less heavy statue to borrow. She was no longer paying attention to Gumshoe.
Suddenly, she spotted a familiar face walking through the corridor. She said a quick goodbye and ended her call with the detective.
Then she hurriedly dashed towards the hallway.
"Hi, Seb! I'm gonna have to steal you for a bit, 'kay?"
"W-what?!"
She grabbed his wrist and swiftly led him inside Edgeworth's unlit office.
"Kay what-" he was hastily pushed onto the swivel chair. She placed one arm on its armrest to keep it steady while she searched for the lever with her other hand.
With the lack of context as to why his best friend was kneeling before him in a dark room, the situation looked very different for the young rookie prosecutor.
"KAY?!" he screamed before he was promptly silenced by the self-appointed assistant, who was now at eye level with him.
"Shh! Could you keep it down? I don't want anyone finding out what we're doing inside Mr. Edgeworth's room."
Fortunately for Kay, he was left speechless. She crouched back down in front of his shaky legs. He closed his eyes shut and waited in anticipation.
"Ugh, it won't come down!"
"H-Huh?" His eyes shot open.
"The chair!!"
"Wait, what are you trying to do exactly?"
"I was playing around with it but then it won't come down because I'm not heavy enough. It seems you're not heavy enough either," she pouted.
Sebastian sat there, now a little less confused. After processing the true situation at hand, while trying not to feel a little disappointed by it(?), he arrived at a simple yet marvelous solution. His little stray hair pointed upward as the idea came out of his lips.
"Oh, what if we BOTH sit on the chair?"
"Sebby, you're a genius!"
Too taken aback by her compliment, he had failed to anticipate the sudden weight ON his lap. He froze as his brain went haywire. This was not what he had in mind.
Kay reached for the lever on the bottom of the swivel chair. It slowly sank back to its natural height after she pulled on it.
"Yes! It's working!"
It stopped going down halfway.
"Huh? I'm pretty sure it can go lower than this," she said as she frantically jiggled the lever.
Just as Sebastian was starting to recover from the shock, she stood up and sat back down with full force. He yelped and his cowlick stood up accordingly. His hands gripped tightly on the arms of the chair as he went into another daze.
The sudden impact was enough to bring the swivel chair back to its original height. The soles of her boots now touched the wooden floors. And the top of Sebastian's shoes.
"We did it, Sebby!"
There was no response. She turned her head a little to face him over her shoulder.
"Sebastian?"
"H-huh," he snapped out of his stupor. Their eyes met, now remembering the current predicament he was in: trapped under her small form and now under her lovely green eyes.
"Ah, right. Yes, WE did. It takes two to tangle, after all."
Instead of correcting him like she always did, she only turned away and giggled in reply. The subtle movement above him made him even more flushed. They should probably get off and leave soon, but Kay grew to like his warmth. He was a nice throne, much nicer than Edgeworth's office chair or even his red couch, she thought. She wanted to lean onto him, but his gloved hands had suddenly settled on her waist. He felt very stiff under her, and he seemed too eager to peel her off of him before she might feel him growing stiffer still.
He cleared his throat, which had gone dry. "W-we should.. ah.. get off now-"
Before they could get up and leave, the office lights turned on.
It was game over for Kay.
And lord only knows what happened to Sebastian.
