Work Text:

In a field lit up by the moon's light, two figures danced to a song only they knew, musical laughter coming from one as the other stumbled over her feet.

Maki had her brow furrowed, trying to follow Kirumi's movements, holding onto Kirumi as the two danced, Kirumi laughing lightly whenever Maki fumbled.  "For someone who was so confident they could dance, you appear to be struggling." Kirumi teased lightly, going through the steps of the waltz with Maki again.  Maki held onto Kirumi, trying to focus on where to put her feet so she didn't stumble again.  After the 4th fall she rested her head on Kirumi's shoulder, huffing and wrapping her arms around her. "I'm good at spinning people, and that's it, haven't you noticed how all the twirls are flawless?" Maki grumbled, swaying slightly with the breeze.

Kirumi laughed again, hugging Maki and walking the two of them over to their picnic blanket, sitting down with her back against a tree. Maki leaned against the other, playing with Kirumi's fingers as a comfortable silence washed over them. "Hey, Maki, have you ever stargazed?  I know Kaito enjoys stargazing, but he isn't that peaceful when he does, always yelling about every individual star and planet that he can see." Kirumi looked over at Maki, who shook her head slightly while she chuckled at the obvious jab at their boisterous friend. "I have, but Kaito bores me to sleep when he goes off on a tangent about how hot some random sun is when all I want to do is look at stars and listen to music."

Maki pulled out her phone, looking for an app which would show where each constellation was. "Here, this one looks good, and it's free, so I'll download it and then we'll be good to go." Maki began downloading it, walking with Kirumi into the middle of the field and laying down with her. They laid in silence for a couple minutes, holding hands and looking at the beautiful sky until the app finished downloading, Maki holding her phone up and finding constellations for the two of them to look at.  "Maki, we should do this more often, it is rather peaceful and much better than hearing Kaito screech." Kirumi smiled when Maki laughed at her comment, her own shoulders shaking slightly with silent giggles.

"What is this?  'Bully Kaito' night?" Maki said in-between laughs, rolling over to look at Kirumi, who was also laughing.  "I am just stating facts, it isn't bullying if it's true, is it?" Kirumi retorted, also rolling over to face Maki, they stayed there for a couple more minutes, before standing and going back to their blanket and packing up with idle chatter going between them.  Before long they had everything in the car and Kirumi was driving, Maki falling asleep in the passenger seat, Kirumi had a small smile on her face as she pulled onto the free-way and drove them home.
