Work Text:
Tim breathed a sigh as he inhaled the familiar jasmine of Lucy’s shampoo that’s was just so overwhelmingly her.
The curtains twitched as the cool morning breeze danced into the room where he and Lucy lay. It was the first day off that had aligned in weeks and he was looking forward to a full day of just nothing. Metro was exciting, but he missed riding with Lucy everyday, her endless optimism, and her compassion for everyone she met, provided him a much needed shot of hope with the devastating things they saw everyday. He didn’t know how she did it - how she managed to maintain her positivity despite everything. But that was Lucy for you, a ray of sunshine that slipped through the walls he put up and turned him into a lovesick idiot.
Her lovesick idiot.
Her head was tucked into his chest, the curls he knew she tried to hard tame tickling the bottom of his chin. He thought about waking her up, after all they only had a day, but watching her sleep calmed him, allowing him to relax and unwind better then watching a game, or walking Kojo. There was something so reassuring about watching Lucy sleep - she always smiled slightly, a mere shadow compared to the many others he had received, but enough that he felt safe and calm knowing that she was content.
Just as Tim resolved himself to the fact that he had to stop staring or it would start being creepy, Lucy stirred.
“Hey,” Tim whispered into the air between them, subtly shifting so he could run his fingers across her arm. She shivered slightly in response to the sensation
“Hi,” she whispered back, voice still thick with sleep. She opened her eyes to look at him. Tim though that he could look into her eyes forever and still never get bored. God he was so gone for her.
“Tim,” she groaned as she noticed the sun peeking around the corners of the curtains, “What time is it?”
“Who cares,” Tim answered, still trailing his fingers across her arm, “We have the whole day.”
Lucy yawned, reaching up to touch his cheek.
“I care. I wanted to make you breakfast in bed.” Tim hummed gently,
“What if I don’t want breakfast?” The tell tale gurgle of his stomach seemed to disagree with his question. Lucy smiled and suddenly Tim felt his heart contract as he basked in the radiance it spread.
“Come on,” Lucy said, starting to rise up onto her elbows, “Let’s go make something to eat and then we can come and snuggle for a while longer.” She picked his shirt from yesterday off the floor and pulled it over her head, tousling her already messy hair even more. It was so positively domestic that his heart contracted again. Briefly he wondered whether it was possible to have a cardiac event just by being in her presence, but as soon as the thought crossed his mind he realised what Lucy had said.
“I do not snuggle.” Tim stated as he pulled yesterday’s sweatpants off the floor and over his legs. He needed to stop leaving things on the floor, he may have gotten lucky this time, but Kojo was a menace, albeit a cute one, and he needed to keep at least some clothes intact.
“Of course not,” Lucy replied, sarcasm evident in her tone, “Tim Bradford would never snuggle.” Even as she said it in her most deadpan tone, he could already see the corners of her mouth start to tip up despite her attempts.
He crossed the room to her, and gently placed a light kiss on her cheek before leaving the bedroom with a smile on his lips.
“Oh come on,” Tim heard Lucy say from behind him, “You can do better then that.” Still smiling he crossed the room to the kitchen to start making some pancakes. As he faced the stove, he heard her feet gently pad across the room, coming to a standstill next to him. He turned slightly, trying to keep his eye on the pancakes, but unable to avoid looking at her. She began trailing kisses softly up his neck, and his eyes closed as he savoured the feeling of her closeness.
When the sensation stopped he opened his eyes to see her sat on the counter, stealing a chocolate chip from the packet. The morning light cast her in a halo of light, and for a moment Tim was sure she was an angel. Gently he slapped her hand away.
“Those are for the pancakes,” he said, without any real conviction behind it. Lucy simply batted her eyelashes innocently at him and stole a couple more.
And that’s when Tim knew that was it for him. He wanted it all, he wanted early mornings watching Lucy pull her hair into a bun that he wanted to undo, he wanted a ring on her finger and a long white dress even if it meant a tuxedo, he wanted late nights waiting up for her if it meant he could see her for just one second before they collapsed, exhausted from a days work, and he wanted 2am wake ups, waking to coddle a child while another slept unaware next door.
He wanted growing old together, watching her hairs turn grey, and he wanted to watch their grandkids be born, to tell them the story of their first date. He wanted to watch her celebrate every single case she solved, and he wanted to be the one she chose to celebrate with.
He just wanted Lucy. Every single bit of her.
They had talked about it before, what their future would look like; off hand comments about parenthood, and when’s not if’s when it comes to marriage, but this was the first time that he acknowledged just how much he wanted it, needed it.
“Hello? Tim? Is everything okay in that brain of yours?” His mind snapped back to the present to see Lucy looking up at him with a concerned frown on her face.
“Shhh everything’s fine,” he murmured as he smoothed the frown on her lips with a thumb, “Just thinking about how much I love you.”
“Good,” Lucy replied, “Because your never getting rid of me.”
And before he could reply with a snarky comment, she was kissing him, and all he could think was that he was the luckiest man in the world.
