Summary:

3 times Jay smiled at Kamden and the one time Kamden smiles first

Chapter 1: kamjay us hour

Chapter Text

Jay was friendly, he had already befriended most of the other trainees early on and it appeared that Kamden would be soon added to his list.

Kamden and Jay were paired up for their performance, Rush Hour. Kamden wasn’t too aware of the other’s abilities but he knew he himself could rap and therefore get through the performance, he couldn’t help his anxiety though. Luckily for him, his anxiety quickly faded upon hearing his partner sing for the first time. Jay sang like his life depended on it, his talent shined like gold to Kamden.

Kamden took pride in dance being his best ability and quickly had the performance down. Jay prided himself in vocals far more and struggled here and there with the dance.

It was almost midnight and the music ended once again for the nth time. Jay collapsed to the floor and Kamden watched in silence.

“I, I can’t do this”, Jay whined. He pulled himself up from the floor and sat against the wall, head banging against the glass.

“I think it’s pretty good," Kamden replied. He knew Jay messed up on a few parts but given how late it was, he just wanted to go and sleep. He assumed Jay’s vocals would make up for the dance lacking.

“No”, Jay pouted and stood up. Kamden watched in silence as the determined boy prepared the song once again. Jay had this natural charm that Kamden couldn’t help but find cute.

“You can head back Kamden-ah, I’ll practice a few more times,” Jay sighed and started the music. He noticed Kamden yawning a few minutes prior.

Jay’s determination drew out a chuckle from Kamden. Without saying a word, Kamden took his place against the other boy and started to dance.

Kamden was beyond tired but he couldn’t leave his partner on his own now can he? Kamden collapsed after the last performance, his legs shaking slightly.

“I think that’s good enough”, Kamden spoke from the ground.

Jay bit down on his bottom lip, still not satisfied. He stretched out a hand to Kamden.
“Can you help me?” Jay spoke nervously. Jay was friendly, he was good at making friends, but Kamden’s silent nature intimidated him slightly.

Kamden gave a low whine before being pulled up by Jay. “Why didn’t you ask earlier”, Kamden sighed.

“Sorry”, Jay smiled sheepishly at him.

“What parts are you struggling on”, Kamden asked. Jay would play the song at a few different parts again trying to recreate the dance moves but still finding himself struggling.

“May I?” Kamden reached out a hand to Jay.

Unsure of what the other meant, Jay just shrugged. Kamden’s hands reached out to grab Jay’s hips. Jay gasped. Kamden moved the other’s body gently, trying to mimic the dance moves.

“Relax”, Kamden whispered. Jay was all stiff from the unexpected action.

“Okay”, Jay breathed out. He felt his face go slightly red but once the music began once again, he felt himself fall into a relaxed rhythm. Kamden maneuvered Jay’s body from behind him, grabbing his arms and hips.

Kamden couldn’t help but wonder if he was overstepping boundaries but the way Jay leaned ever so slightly against him was worth it. The body heat radiating off the other made Kamden relax.

As the song ended, Jay leaned back against Kamden panting, after over exerting himself all day, his entire body felt like noodles. Kamden gently leaned back and sat down as Jay’s body followed.

Now Kamden was sitting with a tired Jay laying his head on his thighs. Kamden remained expressionless but his heart was getting increasingly louder in his chest, and not due to the dancing. Jay had his eyes closed and Kamden unconsciously mapped out the other’s face in his head. He stared at the other’s long lashes before turning away upon seeing his eyes flutter open.

“Thank you”, Jay said in English. He looked up Kamden’s face from his thighs and smiled. A smile so wide that his eyes turned into moon crescents and his white teeth shone under the dance room lights.

Kamden felt his brains short circuit. He could feel his ears turning hot.
“A-anytime”, Kamden stuttered back in English.
“He has a nice smile”, Kamden thought.
