I Miss You

Summary:

A one-shot about Sprig and Ivy while they're separated in different dimensions, yet the young love these two have for each other is still as strong as any other committed couple out there. Takes place during the halfway point of Amphibia Season 3 after the Christmas special.

Work Text:

She missed him. She missed Sprig so much. Ivy couldn't help it. It had been two and a half months since Sprig and the Planters had been forced to flee with Anne to the human's home dimension after King Andrias turned out to be a power-hungry tyrant bent on conquering worlds; even if it meant enslaving his people and striping Amphibia's resources to do so.

Since then, the town of Wartwood had been facing several invasions of robot frogs; though the town refused to bend over and give up their home to Andrias, choosing instead to fight against his army with everything they had. It helped that they now had Sasha and Grime, two of the most skilled toad warriors and military leaders in Amphibia on their side. Along with them, other rogue frogs had begun coming to Wartwood, which was becoming a main base of resistance as a civil war was breaking out between those loyal to King Andrias and those like Ivy, Sasha, and the rest of Wartwood who opposed the mad ruler.

Ivy had to admit things certainly weren't all tea time and fancy etiquette lessons anymore which she was happy about. Something about the constant feeling of danger and the need to always be prepared for an attack fit more into her hyperactive personality. She knew she shouldn't be saying this, much less thinking it, but Ivy liked the idea of going to war.

Yet without Sprig, it all seemed boring. She missed that likeable, adventure-craving, slingshot-wielding frog so much. Sure, he'd gone off an out-of-town adventure before, but that lasted for like a few weeks, over a month at most, to a place located across the land and could be easily travelled via snail, or flying. This time, Sprig had gone to another dimension, which could only be accessed by a magical music box in the hands of a villainous tyrant who resided in a massive floating fortress, guarded by countless robots, newt guards and other deadly defences.

As she sat alone outside atop the Plantar family farmhouse, Ivy couldn't help but think aloud, imagining herself talking to Sprig, wherever he was.

"Hey, Sprig. Hope you're doing alright on Earth. Wonder what it's like living in a world full of humans. I suspect they're making you feel like we did Anne when she first came to town. Though I know she'll be doing her best to make you feel welcome. Hope she also made sure to give you a proper birthday last month. Wish I could have been there for you on that day as your girlfriend.

"Oh, what the frog, I wish I could have just been there for you, birthday or no birthday. I miss you Sprig Planter and I want you to come home, or at least find a way to bring me to Earth so that we can be together. Betcha you're having all sorts of wonderful adventures out there. Perhaps you're having such a great time that you'll never wanna leave. Wonder if we'll ever see each other again…

"Wait of course I will. I know you wouldn't leave me forever. I know how much you care about me. It was pretty obvious, even before we officially hooked up. You're seriously dedicated to this relationship we're in, just as I am. If you can't get back home to me on your own then I'll find a way to come to you. I don't care if that means I'll have to reclaim the music box inside King Andrias' flying castle; guarded by hundred of deadly robots. No army of advanced weaponry and firepower will keep me from you. I swear on my lucky hat that we will see each other again, face to face, in the flesh; or my name isn't IVY HIBISCUS MATCHA SUNDEW!"

He missed her. Missed her like crazy. It was as if Sprig's heart was slowly ripping itself apart piece by piece every time, he thought about her. Of all the things he missed about his home, Ivy, his first, and only girlfriend was always at the top of the list, without a doubt.

His time on Earth certainly wasn't a bore, to say the least. He'd gone on some pretty cool adventures, faced new enemies such as that Mr. X guy, had his eleventh, and most amazing birthday ever on Earth; he even got to meet awesome humans like Anne's parents, who were now the mother and father he didn't have growing up back home. Earth was an amazing place, no doubt there, but still, it lacked a certain something that made the young Frog want to go back home more than ever. That something was a beautiful, adventurous, butt-kicking, red-head frog named Ivy Sundew.

"I miss you, Ivy," Sprig said out loud to no one while he gazed up at the stars that hung over the Boonchuy residence. "Wish I could show you Earth. It's an amazing place full of opportunities for adventures and excitement. Hope you and your mom and the rest of Wartwood are doing okay. That is if… King Andrias' evil robots haven't destroyed the town… and… and enslaved or…. de…. destroyed you…

"Wait what am I thinking? If anyone can take care of themself it's you, Ivy. You're the toughest, fastest, stealthiest, dreamiest frog in all of Amphibia. Of course, you're still alive and I'm gonna see you again in no time. Me, Anne, Polly, and Hop Pop, have made some good friends on Earth, ones that are helping us find a way home. We'll create a new portal that'll take us back to Wartwood. We'll find you, kick Andrias' butt, and save Amphibia; then after that, you and I can go on all sorts of adventures together wherever we want. Whether it's in Amphibia, Earth or some other dimension, we'll do it together. I promise you, Ivy. I promise."
