Chapter Text
“Where…am I?” the only thing he could see was darkness, and pain “What happened?”
He groaned as he tried to open his eyes, he felt as if his eyelids weighed a ton but forced himself to continue until a bright white light blinded him.
Blinking, the blonde man tried to focus on identifying his surroundings, the faint smell of disinfectant and the buzzing coming from around him brought a sense of familiarity. He was uncomfortable in sheets too rough and a pillow that was far stiffer than what he was used to.
He was ins a hospital, that much was clear.
Yagi Toshinori huffed as he realized that he had probably done something reckless again, his health had been slowly decreasing ever since he had received that fatal blow but so far, he could still maintain some of his muscle mass even while not using his quirk. Unfortunately, today it seemed like one of those awful days where something had to go wrong.
With a small grunt, he moved his hands blindly searching for the button that would call for a nurse to come.
Finally, after using his hands to feel around him blindly, he found it and with a little effort, he pushed the button. Immediately he could hear a small beep coming from the machine indicating it had worked and soon someone would come to check on him. Patiently he waited trying to recall the events that had led him to the hospital once more.
Looking around the room he could identify he was currently in a simple room, judging by other simple beds arranged to fit and the fact that he could see the trees rather than the sky through the windows.
“It means I wasn’t in my muscle form when whatever brought me here happened,” All Might, or rather Toshinori Yagi thought “Thank Kami-sama and Nana-sensei for looking after me”
With a sigh, he tried to relax while being so uncomfortable and not knowing what had befallen him mere hours ago if he could trust the clock in the wall. The blond hero had barely closed his eyes trying to rest when the door opened making him turn.
Yagi Toshinori felt as if he had been punched using his Texas smash when he placed his gaze on the nurse.
The petite woman had green long hair past her shoulders, half of it being held in a high ponytail while some bangs decorated her face, a style similar to his master’s. In a moment their gazes crossed and blue met a beautiful vibrant green, the smile that appeared on her face made Toshinori think that she was an angel rather than a human. She was missing her wings and a halo on her head. He was sure if he had a heart monitor on it’d be beeping like crazy.
“I’m so sorry for the delay,” the green-haired angel spoke, stepping closer to his bed “It’s good to see you well Mr. Yagi! You gave your friend quite the scare”
“Ah, I did?” Toshinori couldn’t help but ask, trying to be as smooth as he could “I don’t really remember what happened”
The nurse smiled kindly and placed down his small chart to check him over properly. She smiled and pushed a button, the bed started raising allowing Toshinori to sit up without making so much effort.
“Nothing bad, a small case of mild dehydration” She spoke making some notes on the clipboard as he finally noticed the IV bag that had been placed into his arm “Nothing big but you certainly gave us a scare”
Toshinori laughed and tried to recall what happened, he had vague memories of having lunch with his friend Naomasa when he had felt dizzy, but after that all of it was fuzzy. It seems that he must need to inform his doctors about this, it seems he might be getting weaker than he thought.
“You’ll be free to go once one of the doctors examines you” the nurse spoke once more breaking his train of thought “I will inform your friend that you are awake, do you need something else?”
“Your name and phone number angel,” Toshinori thought while also blushing as if he was a mere teen with a crush. His gaze never left the face of the nurse and her bright smile.
What he hadn’t realized was that he spoke out loud those thoughts.
“I ah…I believe it’s the policy of the hospital not to share that kind of information” The chubby cheeks of the nurse were a bright red while she tried to hide a smile behind the clipboard she had been holding. She was merely teasing but the man seemed to take it to heart making her laugh a little with his exaltation and panic just with that comment.
“I, forgive me I just…” Toshinori blushed and tried to explain himself, he had never faced a situation like this “You are quite beautiful…”
With that admittance, both adults blushed even more as they looked away with the nurse giggling, it was like a scene written out from a manga. Toshinori coughed and tried to regain his composure and maybe get the angel’s name and number if he played his cards right.
“I... I would love to buy you a coffee as a form of thanks” the blond man spoke, trying to come off as suave while he knew it probably came as plain awkward “You don’t have to feel pressured but, I think you are quite beautiful and wouldn’t mind getting to know you. That is if you want! I would never presume to…”
The woman looked at Toshinori as he kept going on and on, he reminded her of Izumi, her daughter. And seeing such a man so flustered because of her certainly tugged at her heartstrings. She giggled seeing the blush increasing in Yagi’s cheeks and couldn’t hold back her smile.
“I would love a coffee” Inko interrupted the now mumbling blond man, she watched as the man’s face lit up and a more relaxed smile appeared on his face “My shift ends at 7, and there’s a nice shop a few blocks from here…”
“Oh, of course!” Toshinori exclaimed excitedly as Inko scribbled in a post-it her name and phone number “It’s a date!”
Inko giggled and handed him the small paper before taking the chart with her so she could update the doctor and leave Toshinori as he had another panic attack at having said the word “date.”
“See you for our date then!” Inko exclaimed as she winked, walked out of the room faintly hearing Yagi freak out, and started to spew apologies.
The short woman laughed as she went back to the nurse station with a small hop in her step. After all, it was just a simple date.
It’s not like this would be a life-changing decision.
“Come on Mom!” a young teen clapped together her hands and bowed her head a little as she looked straight into familiar green eyes “Please? Just give him one chance!”
Inko Midoriya groaned as she watched her 12-year-old daughter bow and plead, she knew she would give up resisting the moment she used the puppy pout against her.
“Izumi, please…” Inko tried to reason with her daughter, although it seemed it would be a lost battle “I know we’ve been going on some dates, and of course, he’s a gentleman but…”
The young teen, Izumi, groaned and rolled her eyes in exasperation.
“Mom, you’ve been seeing each other for almost a year!” Izumi groaned as her mother merely crossed her arms, this was a discussion they’d had for the last few months ever since her mom had formalized his relationship with Mr. Yagi “You can’t keep stringing this along! He’s amazing to you and you love him! What’s stopping you?”
Inko tried to hide her nervousness by trying to make another believable argument but her daughter beat her to it. She knew she had fallen in love with the man, besides she and Hisashi had never spoken again except for those awful days in court trying to get to an arrangement for Izumi’s pension after their divorce.
“You’ve been going on dates more lately; the man has the patience of a freaking saint and you’ve been taking things slow for my sake even if I’ve told you a million times that you don’t have to! Don’t you dare to deny it” Izumi said before her mother could find another reason not to formalize the relationship she had with the blond man, after all, Inko was scared “He has met me and still wants to be with you. Hell, he always brings us some kind of gift whenever he comes for you on your date night and has helped me once or twice with homework while we waited for you to change after your shift! At this point, he has been more present for me than my sperm donor!”
“Izumi!” Inko exclaimed scandalized hearing her sweet girl say, “Don’t call Hisashi that!”
“It’s true!” Izumi exclaimed before following on with her rant, rolling her eyes because of the crude term she had used “You know it, the only thing you’re missing is a label on your relationship and maybe having him stay for dinner one day!”
Inko looked down at the floor, she knew that her daughter was right but it still didn’t make it easier. She had been dating Toshinori for a while now, that was true, and that was the logical next step. Formalize their relationship while also having a feel of how he was when they were all together.
Still, she didn’t want just to spring this into Izumi so suddenly as the girl has merely exchanged a few words with the man. She felt the need to protect her daughter a little more, especially since her biological father had left when he realized their baby was born without a quirk.
“Please Mom” Izumi pleaded as she put her hands on her mother’s shoulders, green wide eyes met hers and the older woman melted seeing the love reflected in them “I only want you to be happy”
Sniffling Inko raised a hand to her daughter’s cheek, slowly caressing it with her thumb. Izumi had grown to be a beautiful girl and she knew it, but most importantly she had a good heart. The teenage girl merely smiled and cleaned her mother’s tears as she kissed the top of her head.
Both leaned in and placed their foreheads together, closing their eyes as they enjoyed the moment and relaxed. A few moments passed until they broke their connection, Inko now staring concernedly at her daughter.
“Okay, but with one condition” Inko finally relented as Izumi merely fist-bumped at the air celebrating “You’ll come with us on the next date, make it a family outing to taste the waters, and then I’ll decide if we should take the next step”
Izumi paled but looked at her mother, she had expected maybe a promise of going slow and not to dump that with her so fast. Blinking away some stray tears Inko continued with a very stern voice.
“Depending on his answer and how the date goes I will make my decision” Inko proclaimed seriously “I do not want to continue with this if either of you doesn’t feel comfortable with each other, so what better than let you two meet in a neutral place and we can see how it all turns out. I love you my little girl but I also want you to be happy and safe. If Toshinori turns out not to be the man I think he is, I will stop seeing him immediately. You’re more important than anyone else in this world to me, my sweet girl”
Izumi was the one crying at this point, mother and daughter embraced each other until the tears and sniffles stopped. Slowly they broke the embrace before cleaning up, they barely made it in time for when Toshinori would come to take Inko for their date.
And if by the next date, Toshinori had ended up giving Izumi an exclusive, ultra rare, and highly-priced All Might merch while Inko wasn’t looking. Well, that was between Izumi and Toshinori.
Slowly Toshinori started to take a permanent place in their lives.
It was as if he fits perfectly into their small family.
A few months later there was an incident and they had been in the middle of a villain attack on a date day, Toshinori decided to protect them and with that in mind let them know about his secret. Inko didn’t take it well at first but after a few weeks both of them talked and their relationship became stronger than before, all because Izumi had bullied both of them to talk it out without knowing what was the real issue. The young girl just couldn’t stand seeing her mother be so sad while trying to ignore the person she loved for something so silly.
In the end, Inko told Toshinori he also had to tell Izumi the whole truth, and it depended on her if she would accept him too.
Toshinori was sure Izumi would understand, what he hadn’t expected was for the small teen to be so fiercely protective of his mother and have such a cunning mind, in less than five minutes he was absolutely scared of the girl in front of him. No one had threatened him so effectively ever, not even his old master Gran Torino had managed to inflict so much fear into Toshinori.
But it all was good when Izumi finally smiled at him and admitted she understood, after that their relationship shifted for the better.
Izumi and Toshinori bonded over their being quirkless and their love for heroics after he had revealed the truth behind his quirk. Toshinori had now developed a paternal love for the small girl that, even while being bullied and shunned, still smiled brightly while trying to help others around her. He went as far as introducing her to Mirai, who ended up adopting her by the end of the night and becoming an honorary uncle to the girl whom he enjoyed spoiling with more merch and lessons
Inko merely enjoyed watching her daughter experience a small part of what having a father meant. The blond man never once stepped over the line, respecting their space and certain themes but always trying his best to love them both and spoil them whenever he could.
It didn’t matter if it was for clothes, maybe some self-defense classes, music classes, and getting expensive merch for Izumi, whatever they needed Toshinori started to provide for them. It was a source of many disagreements between the pair until Toshinori realized Inko was merely worried about his money and seemingly “infinite” funds, after that the blond hero knocked it down and started making rational excuses that not even Inko could argue against.
He fit perfectly and even started serving as a mediator for any fights the daughter and mother would be involved with, he didn’t mind even if sometimes he had to deal with a tear fest and care for them in order not to have the two dehydrated after crying so much.
After a while the little family ended up receiving Toshinori in their house permanently, finally, all of them being able to call that small apartment home.
And that was how it went for another two years; Izumi couldn’t be happier watching her mom bloom once more under Toshinori’s love while she finally got the support only a father figure could bring to her life. She also grew in confidence and was able to practice more things she enjoyed.
It was perfect, their family had grown and they were happy.
Until Toshinori one day asked Izumi’s permission to marry Inko.
Izumi without batting an eye gave him the shovel talk and went into specific detail about how she would torture him until she felt that it was enough retribution if he ever dared to hurt her mother, Toshinori merely nodded and tried not to show how much he was shaking, at least until she then moved her gaze to the floor and a blush adorned her cheeks while a teasing yet earnest smile appeared on her face.
“So…that means I can start calling you Dad Might?” the smirk she had on was meant to be teasing but Toshinori knew the girl was as nervous, if not more, as him. As well as it showed the influence of Sir Night eye, better known as Uncle Mirai, hidden in the wordplay.
“You can call me whatever you want to call me,” Toshinori smiled fondly at the girl “So long as I can call you my daughter” Toshinori smiled and ended up being almost tackled by a crying Izumi.
He didn’t mind, he had never felt happier than at this moment with his arms full of a girl he loved as a daughter crying while thanking him for loving her and Inko so much.
Or at least that’s what he thought until Inko and Izumi moved to their new house and a few months later he watched as the woman who was as beautiful as an angel walked to the altar so they could unite their lives while their daughter cried and handed over her mother to him.
The party was a private event with a few people, only close family, and a few friends had been invited. It certainly was more modest than what Toshinori had wanted, but still one of their most treasured days together.
The day they became an official family.
And that’s when things started to change for the small Yagi-Midoriya family.
“Oh, have you seen Saito-chan?!” one of the guys exclaimed as they entered the school grounds, Katsuki Bakugou was trying to ignore them “It seems summer break finally did some good!”
Katsuki rolled his eyes, he knew that they all were teenagers and hormones were crazy, but he didn’t understand why they would think any of those extras would interest him.
“I mean, she is hot but have you seen Suzuki-san?” another one continued as they went for their shoes “She looks even hotter than last year!”
“No, no but you know who looks even better!?” another one exclaimed as he closed his locker door “Midoriya! Who knew that quirkless loser would look so fine?! The ugly duckling is turning into a swan, even if she probably is just as useless as ever!”
Now that made Katsuki perk up, he could hear all of them gushing about Izumi Midoriya better known as Deku. He felt anger curse through his veins, how the extras could talk so carelessly about their classmates like that.
“Oi! Shut up you a bunch of fucking perverts!” Katsuki screamed and let out an explosion from his palm trying to make sure they wouldn’t keep on going with their disgusting chat “You’re all disgusting!”
With that, he slammed closed his locker and proceeded to stomp toward his classroom the screams from his classmates slowly becoming fainter the faster he walked. He huffed and shoved his hands in his pockets.
“Bunch of fucking losers” the blond teen muttered as he glared at the floor, arriving in no time at the door of his classroom “As if fucking useless Deku would be that…good…looking…. “
And that’s when the words died in his throat because right there was Deku.
Or rather Izumi Midoriya in all her glory, although Katsuki wanted nothing more than to say that it was a vision.
Katsuki was thankful that the classroom was empty beside Izumi who was staring at the windows, her eyes closed and for once she was in complete silence.
Something Katsuki was now thanking the heavens for because now he could ogle at Deku without anyone to tease him.
He had never noticed it but she had even more freckles across her cheeks making constellations on her pale skin, her hair dark hair making a natural contrast. It looked soft and shinier than he could ever remember her hair looking, its wavy nature and length only made it look so soft as if it was silk. Her eyelashes were so long that they brushed against her cheeks, and her lips had a cupid’s bow painted a natural beautiful pinkish hue.
“She looks like a fucking goddess,” Katsuki thought as he kept appreciating the sight before him “A fucking beautiful, green-haired goddess”
Katsuki didn’t know when but, in a moment, Izumi sighed and opened his eyes while leaning his head in her hand. Her gaze never wavered from whatever spot she had chosen and completely ignored Katsuki, but he couldn’t help and feel as if she had even become more beautiful.
Her hair moved and he finally could admire how the bangs that were framing her face moved with the movement along with the All Might-themed bow holding together her hair in a high ponytail playing a game of peek-a-boo with her curls. He could now see her vibrant green eyes focused somewhere on the horizon and her lips parted from the previous sigh.
Katsuki didn’t know why he kept staring at Izumi, but seeing her like that kept him frozen in place.
That is until Izumi decided to lick her lips and Katsuki couldn’t help himself from staring at the movement of her pink tongue going over her lips. His gaze followed the path without blinking as if it was in slow motion.
He could see how her lips now glistened and also made them look even more kissable.
He hadn’t realized that that little scene had made his body react and unconsciously made him swallow hard.
Making noise.
In other words, his body reaction now revealed that he had been staring like a creep at Deku.
It all happened too fast but Katsuki wouldn’t lie to himself and deny that Izumi looked cute with a blush adorning her chubby freckled cheeks. Her eyes were wide open in surprise while her mouth curled into a small shy smile. Their gazes met and Katuski’s mouth was dry.
“Oh! Um, hi Kachaan!” Izumi smiled, her voice laced with fondness as well as jitters and it was like a punch to his guts “Go-good morning!”
Katuski’s heart was beating faster and he feared if he opened his mouth to talk, he would say something stupid, so he chose to not subject himself to the possibility of making a fool of himself.
He looked away while also making it blatantly clear he was ignoring her, and walked up to an empty seat far away from Izumi but somewhere where he could still watch her. The sight of Izumi’s shoulders slumping and her eyes now downwards didn’t make him feel awful or want to comfort the nerd. Shaking his head Katsuki berated himself for thinking that, he tried to distract himself while the rest of their classmates filled the classroom. Still, no matter what he tried, his mind came back to the sight he had been greeted with a few moments ago.
“Why the fuck did I think about the nerd like that!? She’s just a useless quirkless nerd!” Katsuki admonished himself, remembering they had called Izumi a goddess “It was just because of what they were saying before, it’s just my mind playing tricks on me”
It had to be a fluke, it had to.
The moment people started to fill in the classroom Katsuki was glad that they had come to distract him and fill in the uncomfortable silence, and distract him from staring at Izumi more than he wanted.
Still, he couldn’t help but watch as his classmates’ gazes often ended in Deku, be it female or male they had also noticed the changes the nerd had gone through. Most of them whispering and pointing while the nerd was busy keeping herself distracted with something in her notebook.
Of course, that didn’t anger him, after all, why would Katsuki Bakugou care about that quirkless beautiful nerd?
The day had gone by and Katsuki was absolutely vivid.
He hadn’t been able to stop thinking about the nerd, every single time she moved Katsuki had felt his gaze following every single one of them. No matter what his eyes always landed on Izumi.
The blond teen had tried to focus on the lectures, the awful and boring math problems, and the dull English lesson, but nothing had worked so far. No matter what he tried to distract himself, he could feel something pulling him to observe Izumi.
And that’s how his day had gone, he could barely remember the material they had gone over because his mind only supplied him with images of Izumi.
Izumi playing with her long hair during a boring lesson.
Izumi with a pout on her lips focused on solving a difficult math problem.
Izumi perking up with a huge smile after answering an exercise on the board correctly.
Izumi softly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Izumi smiling and blushing after taking a bite out of her cute bento.
Shaking his head Katsuki kept on waking the path towards his house, he couldn’t believe he had been so enraptured with that useless Deku. He had fled from school the moment the last bell rang.
He needed time for himself, and also, he needed to ignore those stupid extras that kept pestering him with talks about Izumi and the rest of the girls in his class.
He had never loathed gym class so much.
“As if that nerd is…” Katsuki growled and threw his hands to his hair messing it up as he tried to take those thoughts out of his head “She’s just a useless nerd! Nothing more and nothing less!”
Stopping in the middle of the street the blond teen let out an exhausted scream looking at the sky. He didn’t care about the nerd, no matter how much his mother liked to tease him about it he didn’t care at all about that quirkless girl.
“It doesn’t matter if she…if she’s fucking beautiful” the blond snarled at that mere word, lashing out with two explosions coming from his hands “She’s the same useless and quirkless girl I’ve always known! And I…I’m going to put her back in place!”
Katsuki roared as a new fire ignited in him.
Yes, he was going to show the nerd where her place was. Admiring Katsuki and being in his shadow.
Nothing more.
It didn’t matter if he had most of the guys in their class drooling for her, or if she was breathtaking with that smile, the dimples on her cheeks, and those beautiful big emerald eyes.
He would make sure the nerd learned her place once more!
Chuckling to himself the blond teen walked back to his home, he would put his plan in motion the next day and show the nerd just how useless she was. Even if she was a pretty face she would always be at the bottom of the pyramid.
Katsuki Bakugou wasn’t ready for what was coming next.
“We’re home!” Toshinori Yagi, better known as All Might, enters his home with his daughter right beside him “It smells amazing my dear!”
Izumi nods while she takes off her favorite red sneakers, a gift from her uncle David. Toshinori smiles as he watches the young girl, he loves so much, run inside to find her mother and talk about her first day in school. An excited gleam in her eyes sparkling while she gushes about how she spent the evening with her father and Mirio, Night Eye’s young protegee.
“That sounds exciting sweetie! I’m glad you had a good time with your father and uncle” Inko smiles, she had missed seeing her little girl so excited about heroes since she had to give up on her dream of being one but slowly her spark was coming back “So…Anything else you want to tell me about him? Was he as handsome as Katsuki-kun or not?”
“Mom!” Izumi squeaks, wide-eyed looking at her mother as if the small woman had grown another head “Why…you…It was a long time ago…Kachaan-I mean Katsuki …I-MOM! STOP LAUGHING!”
Toshinori watches as his daughter frantically tries to explain that has nothing to do with what’s happening and fails to make a proper response, stuttering, and a blush burning bright on her cheeks.
Ultimately Inko can’t stop laughing as Izumi groans in despair before throwing herself dramatically onto the couch screaming about how life was cruel, and her mother was against her. Both adults chuckle at that, one fondly at their daughter and the other because of the theatrics the small girl was pulling.
Toshinori had never seen his daughter like this, the name “Kachaan” had often come by in passing conversations but never had Izumi reacted in such a strange way.
He wants to laugh, tease Izumi, and ask if her little girl has a crush on someone.
Yet, Toshinori’s first instinct is to seat on the table while sipping on his tea and staring at his daughter until she leaves to put away her things and change into something more comfortable for home before helping with dinner.
Still, his guts twist and a wave of anger he didn’t know he could feel replaces his good mood as he watches his daughter disappear upstairs to her room; he might need to invest in a new security system without telling Inko.
And maybe he might have to start picking up their daughter after school from now on.
Just to make sure no boy would ever think about getting close to his precious daughter.
The grip on his mug tightens and the frown on his face becomes more pronounced.
Was this “Katsuki” a boy his daughter seemed to be taken with? Interesting. He probably should go and meet this young man so they can have a small chat, or maybe he could use his connections to get information about him. His grip on the cup he was holding tightened unconsciously.
“Is there a problem with your tea?” Inko asks, a grin on her face while Toshinori surprised tries to make an excuse of why he was giving the poor beverage the stink eye “I could warm it up again if you want Toshi!”
“No! No!” It’s fine I was merely…thinking! Yes!” The blond man merely pulls the cup to his lips in the end, a small embarrassed blush on his cheeks as he drinks the now cold tea.
Inko turns and merrily chuckles to herself. She couldn’t wait until Toshinori met Katsuki; it would be really interesting.
In Bakugou’s residence, Katsuki sneezes alone in his room. Looking around he notices his window is closed and shrugs.
Maybe it was some dust.
