Work Text:

"Tell you what, if you can guess my favourite colour, I'll answer one of your questions." Min Yoongi had grown slightly annoyed with the taller boy who hadn't stopped following him for over half the day. Yoongi had been wandering around a local camera store in a little city in Daegu, looking for a new lens for his camera when the loud and strange boy quite literally ran into him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The boy had been running away from an employee because he thought it'd be funny to fire a flash directly into the latter's face, resulting in the employee blindly chasing the boy. The taller boy had turned into the aisle Yoongi was standing in, a little too quickly, and knocked the latter over, resulting in Yoongi being crushed under the younger boy, a string of grumbled curse words coming from the older male. The employee whirled into the aisle and began apologizing profusely to Yoongi. Yoongi's just glad no damage came to his camera. The boy completely ignored the words Yoongi was saying and helped him up with a giant box grin on his face. He had learned that the boy's name was Taehyung (not that he asked) and that the employee's name was Namjoon (thanks to a nametag). After Namjoon lectured Taehyung about proper flash use and running in the store (Yoongi was pretty sure Taehyung wasn't paying attention to Namjoon at all), he offered to give Yoongi a 20% discount on his purchase for the day. Yoongi gratefully accepted the discount, as new glass isn't cheap. As he was checking out his items, he noticed that Taehyung kept looking over at him from behind the counter where Namjoon had told him to stay.
"Can I help you..?" Yoongi squinted at the boy who was sitting on a little chair behind Namjoon. Yoongi noted that he looked like a child on time out.
Namjoon raised an eyebrow and took a quick glance behind him. He sighed and said "Please ignore him, he tends to stare and not realize he's doing it," as he scanned the last of Yoongi's new gear. This time, it was Yoongi's turn to raise an eyebrow.
Yoongi left the store in high spirits, excited to try out the new lenses.That feeling didn't last though, as he realized Taehyung had snuck away from Namjoon and was now following Yoongi wherever he went, getting in his way whenever he wanted to get a shot and kept asking him dumb questions like "Why can't we keep elephants as pets?" Yoongi would just walk away whenever he asked those questions. Eventually, Taehyung's questions had become photography related, and Yoongi begrudgingly answered those, but Taehyung took a turn and started asking personal questions about what Yoongi did for a living and if he was single or not. Yoongi was a bit taken aback from how brash the kid could be. He ignored those questions too.
At some point, Yoongi decided to make do with what he had, and told Taehyung to pose in certain places while Yoongi clicked away with his camera. A few minutes into shooting his new subject, and Yoongi realized that the strange kid could be quite charismatic. In front of the camera, that is. He decided that the boy wasn't that bad. About 30 minutes after Yoongi started shooting, he decided it was time for food, as he'd been (trying) to shoot all day, and having Taehyung follow him around made him grow hungry. Finding a quiet little bbq place nearby, settled in a looked at the menu, hoping Taehyung would shut up for at least a few minutes whenever the food got there. (Yoongi would've felt bad if he just left the kid out on his own, despite the fact that it was Taehyung's choice to follow him around all damn day) After they both ordered, Yoongi decided to look over the photos he had taken that day. (while Taehyung continued to drone on about elephants and moles. Seriously, what was with this kid and his obsession with moles?)
In the first batch of photos, Yoongi had been trying to take candid shots around a local market. He wasn't really impressed with any of them, and he decided that he needed more practice with candids. The next couple photos, Yoongi had been trying to get shots of the landscape around a rural area of Daegu, but this was when Taehyung accidentally wandered into his shots, resulting in misplaced hands and legs in every one of the photos. Yoongi pursed his lips as he deleted most of those, only keeping the photos where he could crop out the random pieces of Taehyung without shrinking the image too much. 20 or so photos later, he reached the batch of photos where he had Taehyung pose for him. Now that Yoongi had a better chance to look at them, Taehyung turned out so much better than he originally thought. Yoongi furrowed his brow and took a quick glance at the boy in front of him. He'd been keeping himself busy with his phone, taking selfies and probably sneaking photos of Yoongi while he was at it. Yoongi could see him being that type of person. He rolled his eyes and placed his camera back into his camera bag as he spotted the food they ordered coming their way.
As soon as their waiter placed the food on the table, they both dug in, not caring about their mouths getting burned. In between bites, Taehyung spoke up, shattering Yoongi's hopes of peaceful eating, once more asking personal questions. Jeez, this kid came on really strong. But, he figured it was a way to get to know someone (or maybe chase them away). Yoongi interrupted him mid question.
"Tell you what, if you can guess my favourite colour, I'll answer one of your questions." Yoongi smirked as the boy across from him thought hard, furrowing his brow in concentration. "Don't hurt yourself, kid," Yoongi joked. In all honesty, Yoongi didn't even have a favourite colour. He just wanted the kid to be quiet for a little more.
After a few more seconds of intense thinking, Taehyung yelled out "White!" eyes wide, and that box smile Yoongi was growing accustomed to, plastered on his face. Yoongi didn't have a favourite colour. Until then. Yoongi wanted to argue that white wasn't actually a colour, more of a shade, the absence of colour if you will. But the more he thought about it, the more he could appreciate it. The colour of the clouds on a nice day, the colour of sea foam that Yoongi admired, the colour of innocence and purity, a colour that described Kim Taehyung perfectly.
He took a second before replying, "Good guess," smiling softly. And with that, Taehyung's one question turned into 5, which turned into 10, and so on. The sky had grown dark without them realizing it, and by closing time, Yoongi had answered every question Taehyung had thrown at him, and even managed to ask some of his own. Though, he was sure the kid could come up with more when they see each other next.
Notes:
Ahaha I dunno, I wrote this out in a rush and i haven't really gone over it at all so i'm sorry for how choppy it turned out. Maybe I'll rewrite it at a later date~
