Chapter 1: His Grand Return

Chapter Text

It hadn't been eventful.

The War had lingered for many years, so many soldiers ended up lost, either to fatal injuries or to their own mental decline. However, when victory had finally been achieved, all of the remaining broken men could finally return home, to suffer. Nobody cared about what happened to the soldiers now that the War was over, they were useless. Abandoned and discarded. Shells...

One fellow, a Peppino Spaghetti, shall be our focus. He had been young when he left home, caught up in the chaos of army life after accidentally passing too well, he had been lucky... At the time he had been lucky. However, army life had never really been the thing for one such as him, it was tough. Horrible. Left him broken. So many sounds had become awful, it really wasn't a good time.  As with other soldiers, his return hadn't been great. Despite the many claims, he had no skills to use in the real world, which meant that the future job hunts would never bring him any results. He just... He had to start small.

------------

Peppito made his way through the streets, his anxious gaze darting every which way, to a person walking wrong, to the street sign flickering too brightly, to the random passer-by who dared to have the wrong look. Quite frankly, he was terrified, of the world and of life and just of everything in general. Nothing had gotten better, he was still suffering, though his mother had suggested going to a therapist he refused to saddle his parents with yet another financial burden. He knew they were struggling already, which was why he had insisted on getting a job! And, sure, perhaps he regretted the choice now... The last few places had rejected him for having 0 job experience, and he was very quickly giving up hope.

If only there had been a shining light in the tunnel... Something he could use to get out of things...

"CHRIST!"

Well, that hadn't been too pleasant. In the brief moments that he had closed his eyes, someone must've appeared in-front of him, for they had collided and both ended up on the floor. The poor Italian, he scrambles up first, stumbling over his apologies as he caught sight of the other person. At first, he had assumed they were just a child, but upon further inspection it seemed that the short figure happened to also be an adult. Wearing one of the worst costumes he had ever seen, for it was an off yellow, and that cape. Awful. Why would anyone choose to wear that?

"Boy howdy, are you alright? I don't wanna be dealing with any legal issues, you hear me?" That voice hadn't been the one he was expecting, either. And he barely had any time to react, for the short superhero(?) was already at his side, talking away and going on about things and honestly he had already lost track of what was going on.
"H- Hey, sir, please..." He wasn't that great at talking to chatty individuals, nor was he great at talking to people in general. He didn't have very strong people skills. But, this guy... "... Maybe you-a could at least tell me your-a name?" That DOES make the guy stop, but the free moments seemed very fleeting, for he was back to talking in no time.
"Oh, right! My name is The Noise, I'm a gremlin and I live innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. . . Somewhere super secret! Tell me, what's an Italian guy like you doing out here on this sorta day?"

"It..." Everything seemed such a blur, his day had already been so busy, and this somehow wasn't helping, what a surprise, "... I was looking for a job." Perhaps it was a bad idea to admit such a thing out loud, but honestly he was wildly unprepared for what was about to happen.

"Well, I'll be damned. I just might have the thing for you"
