Kagami stares at the bathroom sink. Stares and stares, until she can’t even see it anymore, until it’s just a vast expanse of negative white in her field of vision.
“Where were you?” she says, and the shuffling behind her stops.
“I was right next to you.”
“Yes,” Kagami says, turning around. Marinette’s eyes are right on hers, distraught, but not red. “You were right there, and when Luka asked you what the plan was, you had nothing to say, and when I offered suggestions, you shot down every one of them without offering anything constructive. Then Adrien interrupted and started throwing anything out and seeing if it stuck, and you didn’t say anything at all to him . And then you just watched as Max stepped in and started explaining the probabilities of different outcomes of his ideas.”
Marinette’s voice is barely above a whisper. “What should I have said?”
“Anything. That’s your role.”
“No,” Marinette says. “Not anymore.”
Kagami shakes her head. “Just because we don’t have the miraculous–”
“It’s not just that,” Marinette says. “It was a mistake. All of it. It never should’ve been mine. Adrien can handle it, if he wants to.”
Kagami stares at her. Stares and stares. She wants to wipe the tears now streaming on her face. Wants her to smile. Wants to scream at her.
She doesn't know what to do, so she walks away.
